I had a smile and tears in my eyes throughout the video. Your dad was a mahaguru even in real life to so many actors. Guru ki izzat aur shiksha zindagi bhar yaad rahti hai. Tom saheb dedicated his whole life to his art and shared his knowledge with others. I am someone who writes hindi and urdu poems, so I have always been मुरीद of your dad's urdu and his love for शायरी. I was just a kid when he was active in TV serials and movies. Years later, I revisited a lot of his work and interviews. He was a man with a lot of class compared to his peers. I wish I had the opportunity to meet your father, discuss poetry and his favorite नज़्म. He is immortalized in Hindi film and TV industry and we all love him. I am sure he would have been proud of all his students.

Jamie Bhai Jai Hind. Tom Alter saab was an exalted figure in the field of acting. He was an institution in himself and inspiration for many aspiring actors. Apart from acting, what I loved about him was his command over Zabaan e Urdu. I am sure he would be proud of not only his students, but also of an amazing son like you, who has not only inherited good looks from his revered father, but also acting skills, beautiful way of conversing, frankness and humility.

yes i agree with you- he was so passionate about urdu, and his diction and understanding the nuances of poetry which in itself is really a tough thing even for native urdu speakers because normal day to day life language and high level literary and poetical language is different. One more thing he use to chide was the use of english (even a poor or made up english ) by the new gen actors during conversations which were on hindi channels or by hindi anchors which made them look fools and made the interviewers uncomfortable because they were not too good in english either and they are taking the interview in hindi and the so called celebs are speaking in english or anglicized hindi / urdu. and he cited a few names like shahrukh/ aamir / amitabh/ jackie who at least had the courtesy and command over both languages and never ever mixed them most times. so seeing at his passion and love for the country shows how a genuine and real person he was not the fake rashtravadi's and bhasha vaadi's like our modern day netas of a certain fake rashtravadi party. sorry for bringing in politics but i do not have a better example to show.
@@1101smartkooldude I agree with you as far as your views on marhoom Tom Alter saab are concerned, but I don't know if the comments on a political party by you have been made on BJP or not, because if they have been made with regards to BJP then I totally disagree with you. In my opinion, BJP is the only party in our country which has served our country in true sense and full commitment and nothing is fake about its rashtrawad, BJP is a party of true nationalists.. Go and see the changes it has made in the lives of a common man in terms of catering to his basic needs of food, clothing and shelter, making proper roads and bridges in remotest areas, empowering women, providing sense of security to people of our country, exalting the image of our country on the global pedestal, etc. Our country is proud to have a Prime Minister like Sh. Narendra Modi Ji and is proud to be governed by a true nationalist party like BJP.
Your father was not only an awesome actor but also a great human being. I don't know how many times I watched his interview given on Sansad TV (Guftagoo with Tom Alter). His thoughts, his vision and his soul were so pure that it clearly reflects in the interview. May his soul rest in peace. 🙏🙏

I listened to his interviews from time to time in UA-cam and he spoke so beautifully with such beautiful words, that one can listen to his thought provoking talks for all day long! Such a great and pleasant personality he was.. 🙏🙂

Hello Jamie, this really a very interesting video. Your father, Mr. Alter played multitude of characters of varying shades both on reel and off reel. I basically saw him in those stereotypical roles "scheming conniving villain", like the late Mr. Bob Christo. It was not until I saw "Shatranj Ke Khiladi" , directed by late Mr. Satyajit Ray, where he (playing the role of an English officer of the British East India Company) recites an Urdu couplet with his flawless pronunciation, delivery and confidence. That scene is not more than two minutes long and Mr. Alter delivers only three to four lines, if my memory serves me well. That was the first time, I came across his real potential as an actor of a very high calibre and immense talent. Did your father share his experiences of working with Mr. Satyajit Ray? I think this should be the subject of one of your future podcasts. Thank you.
