  • In this video, I explain why it is better to make your own sterling silver ear wires, rather than purchasing pre-made ones. I also show my quick and easy method for creating consistent, functional and attractive French Wires for earrings.

This video has some more ideas for earwigs as well Bill, and is quite a bit more recent:): ua-cam.com/video/TtWRR1bhj3Q/v-deo.htmlsi=hTuH9Z33AU1dq4Me

Hi Chad, I like the different way you arrive at beautiful ear wires in this video. I have a suggestion; it is a great tutorial, but it is hard to see what you're doing in several parts. You are out of frame. I think all of us would appreciate a second detailed look. If you feel like it. I get this, but I've made hundreds of these. Your technique is superior in that it is very refined looking; clean wraps and the "eye" of your loop is uniform (rare). 😎👏👏👏👍

Thanks Flying Chef! I was going to make a newer one with several variations and a better view pretty soon. Good suggestion. At some point I will redo some of the early videos with better shot and edited ones. As always, thanks for the good advice!

I bet a rotary tool cup burr would work. Have to try that sometime!

Even if you buy dead soft you can work Harding them by putting them in a tumbler with steel shots and a drop of dish soap and tumble for at least 12 hours. But yes, using the half hard is the best but if you only have dead soft use the tumbler technique

Hehe. This is one of my early videos while I was learning basic video editing. Here is one that is a little better with more types of earring findings including that same type:). ua-cam.com/video/TtWRR1bhj3Q/v-deo.htmlsi=EPusRDi0SynjB5yB
