@@Ryanj-dn4lw That’s a great point! It is so relevant because most of these manufacturers come from working in other industries like car parts etc… they did this because it’s a passion. There sure as hell is way more money in custom car parts and less headache and hoops to jump through!

a suggestion to improve quality... please offer steel body and lips magazines. The trouble with plastic/polymer is that after as little as 120 rounds, the leading feed rail starts to degrade and wear at an angle and tilts the bullet at an unfavourable angle, causing jams , unreliability.

The double-ended feature is a good thing,and maybe another innovation to try, fashioned after Ruger that 10/22 uses...a tri-coupler for a single piece magazine. 3x5 = 15.

no. this is full compliance-the government does not want more than 5 rounds, the builder designed a gun that cannot take the larger AR15 magazine. They also have a gun they can sell now.

Sorry but proprietary magazines are a huge dealbreaker. The fact that these could never use a 10 round pistol mag is the nail in the coffin. I hope it’s successful for you but this is a non-starter for me.

@@bugstomper4670 no… these mags have channels in them with ribs in the magwell. The magwell needs to get smaller to fit AR mags. No adaptor can make it smaller.

As a 'Southern Cousin' I applaud Canadian shooters for innovating in a rather hostile environment. The proprietary magazines are a royal pain, but that's not the maker's fault--it's squarely on your government.
I also hope that Crusader Arms is able to avoid the teething problems so many new concepts have to suffer through.

The other thing people are no considering is that it comes with 4 mags for sure, they are trying to make it come with 6mags. So not a huge deal when you get all the mags you need with he rifle at no extra cost. There are rumblings that soon all semi auto magazines that are not permanent 5rd design will be prohibited. Pinned mags will not suffice.
What are the other current options for people looking for AR15 type rifles under 2k? Raven? They are completely backed up on orders atm

@CodeOfArms I understand it comes with 4 mags but respectfully, 4 mags is nothing. Lots of us already own tones of gi, pmags, or 10rd "pistol" mags we want to use. And as for the "future proofing" argument of these proprietary mags being true 5rds, most Canadian "ar" buyers arnt interested in whither our gun will be compliant in the coming years. We know anything can be banned over night. We want a rifle that makes sense(takes common parts/mags) regardless of if the Legal goalpost gets moved again.

Just ordered today! Will find out soon how the reliability is, high hopes since majority of the parts are compatible with an AR15. Will be making review on rifle once I aquire mine.

@@Foxhound709 That’s negative Batman. The precedence has been set with the Ruger 10/22.
The pony boys decided that since the same magazines are used with the ‘pistol’ version of the rifle (Ruger Charger), it’s limited to a 10rd magazine.
However Spectre Ballistics makes an adapter that allows the 10/22 to utilize the Remington 597 magazine. The adapter was given RCMP approval and has been available for sale at multiple stores for a couple years now.
The law also states the magazines are restricted “based on the firearm it was designed and intended for use within.”
So again, making the rifle fit the magazine is fine, however you cannot legally make the magazine fit the rifle.
Getting expensive buying all these “legal for a time” AR variants. It’s easier at this point to just use my standard AR and risk getting caught. They don’t put criminals in jail in Canada anyways. 🤦🏻♂️

I think its what the canadian market needed. So long as the mags are well built to be reliable for a very long time then the rest of the rifle can be made into what ever i want.

Either reliable for some time, or cheap enough that their service life is justified.

Maybe in USD, but in Canada $2000 CAD is basically the cost of a mid-high quality rifle. We call it "the black rifle tax," and it sucks, but at least with receiver sets you get the option to build it out however you want.

Magwell sounds like it can be easily modified to use AR mags, which is fine by law.
You know what? I'm gonna go against the grain here. Proprietary mags aren't a problem for me whatsoever, especially one-way ones like these that can work with AR-15s in a potential future.
I play airsoft and boy howdy, some of the magazines my toys use cost more than twice as much! Nobody said these hobbies were gonna be cheap! I think that they did the best with the conditions that they have, and the compatibility of the proprietary mags is actually genius.
For someone like me, who foolishly missed the boat at acquiring an AR-15 before they got banned, stuff like this is a godsend. I think it's fantastic that Canadians aren't just lying down and letting the industry be stomped out by morons who don't know a thing about what they're banning.

You do that and you might have a prohibited firearm? I know Dlask did something similar with the 10/22 platform with the TUF-22 receiver...it can take 25 round proprietary mags because the proprietary mags have a small piece of plastic on them that stop them from being able to be used in any other 10/22 receiver....grind off that mag and it is now prohibited. However the proprietary mags on the Crypto will work in other STANAG lowers.
@@Ramztothaz The situation you're describing is modifying the magazine to fit in a rifle. I don't know if anyone has ever gotten in shit for modifying a rifle to accept anon-standard magazine.

I am a foreigner living in Canada and I really hope the gun laws will change soon. I own a gun back in my home country and it gave me the security I need to protect my family. Now that we have started our life here in Canada, I still need that security. Not that I don't trust the RCMP but having a gun gives you that edge in seconds when in times of danger than waiting for law enforcers to arrive in minutes. There is no perfect country and bad people will always be everywhere. I also believe in the power of protecting yourself and your family.

Considering that it's little keyed mags will function in the AR I don't even think we need the dimensions...

@@CodeOfArms i have over 20 mags the bulk being 10 rounds mags with extended base. i was super excited about this gun, but i don't want to spend another $40 a mag for a mag that has yet to be proven. now if they simplify the groves in the rifle so i can remove them ill be back to liking this rifle.

@@justauser I get that! I think most people aren’t aware of the coming prohibition of all mags that are not permanent 5rd (anything pinned or more than 5rd will be illegal). Aside from that, there are so many ppl that run just 5rd pinned PMAGS which is effectively the same thing.

Firearm homicides in Canada in 2019: 264 Firearm homicides in the US in 2019: 10,258. Sources are stats Canada and the FBI. The year 2019 was chosen as it was the overlapping point in the default data sets.

I understand the disappointment over the magazines, but I also can see where Crusader arms was coming from with that decision. The govt seems to be targeting magazines and magazine capacity more than any other part. At the same time, magazines are also one of the cheapest and most easily replaced parts of a rifle: you can still use all your aftermarket BCGs, barrels, buffers, and triggers. It's disappointing, but if magazines are the bottlneck, I get it.
Nice to see another Canadian company step up and manufacture a firearm that can fill the gap to replace the ar platform. But I will hold out for the next election as we may get our ar 15 's back.

The BCG is a plus but the mags are hard to stomach. I'm used to guns with proprietary mags, but for some reason it is a tough pill to swallow on these Canadian variants.
All comes down to reliability. I will wait on more reviews after a few thousand rounds.

I get there is some drawbacks but I'm very thankful for them making this rifle. 4 x double ended magazines with the rifle is great too, that definitely takes the edge off the proprietary mag.

We have 102,148 AR's locked up in this country....that's alot of parts looking for a new home if the receiver and the mags turn out to be of quality and they are reasonably priced. ATRS had a months long waiting list for receiver sets way back when they were able to make them...and that was before the AR was prohib'd.

I think we've all become aware that it's not the function of a firearm that's important to them, it's simply what it looks like. I can see many anti's describing that as "Just another Assault Style firearm" (therefore it's evil)

You see any original designs for an AR like rifle and magazine that was specifically designed to hold an absolute maximum of 5 rounds? No? Exactly.
That's what they need to follow right now, or the rifle gets banned instantly.
If they were just in it for the money, they wouldn't be shipping it out with 4 mags. If they were in it for the money, they wouldn't plan on shipping it out with 6 mags in the near future if they can handle that level of production.
Now. If 10 other companies show up with a rifle that SHOULD be able to accept these mags, and they specifically make it so they can't, I might see you having a point.
Problem is, the magazine design gets the rifle banned, and if the rifle is banned, a redesigned mag will not unban it. It has to basically be specially designed and built for the Canadian market. Both the rifle, and the magazine.
