So nice to hear real known tunes played in the demo rather than the usual arbitrary non-descript jazz blur you often get on these demos. Superb pianos, but then I am a Roland fan.

How does the LX706 update sound relative to the 705?

I have listened to the LX705 before the update and I thought the sound was muffled and the notes were not distinct enough, particularly at the low end in the European Grand voice. I’ve seen this piano described in a similar manner by other reviewers, so are you suggesting that this update somehow eliminates that “muffled” sound and gives it a more realistic tone? I’m on the cusp of buying either this or a Yamaha CLP745. I much prefer the layout of the LX705 control interface and cabinet, but I think I like the sound of the CLP745 better. If this update fixes the sound, it might be an easier decision for me.

The Roland site writes this about the update:
      [ Ver.1.10 ] NOV 2023
      Additional Function
"Rich" was added to "Speaker Setting."
      * The sound from Output Jacks and Phones Jacks does not change when the speaker setting is switched.
      * If you're using the LX708, nothing is changed from version 1.09.
So it depends if you are planning to play a lot while using headphone or speakers. With headphone nothing changes with this update. I'm also doubting about these two instruments. Let me know about your choice below.

@@mdezwart Yes I saw that post, thanks. I was wondering more about how it changed the sound that is heard from the onboard speakers as you are playing the instrument. I've seen lots of reviews that say the LX705 sound is "hollow" and "distant", and I experienced that myself when I tried playing it. However, I haven't heard an LX706 in person, so I'm assuming it sounds better than the 705 by default, and wondering if this update improved that sound even further, thereby getting rid of the "hollow, distant" sound.

@@tacketr Difficult choices to make. Best is to go to a piano store and compare for yourselve. Everybody here on the internet has different opinions and sound and feel of the keyboard is very personal. Most people find the Rolands sound more digital compared to other brands. In general people like sampeled sounds more. But expressiveness is also important and this is a big advantage of the modeling piano's of Roland. And I lean to trust the quality of Roland more than some other brands. The keys Roland uses for the LX706 belong to the best of digital piano's. They give you 10 years on site warranty. Modeling gives you the possibility to tune the piano in the way you like best. This might not make choices easier, but there is more to consider as sound only.
