Nice van! What most don't know is the fact that in this V 280, the complete drivetrains were being delivered from VOLKSWAGEN! Yes, that is true, it has VW's so-called VR 6 engine (15 degree inline) and even the electronically controlled VW 4 speed-automatic from the VW Multivan T 4! So it is the 2-valve 128 KW/ 174 mhp version of this engine, code AAA, which has been designed to be compact enough to fit in many VW cars, all of which those days had transverse engine, front-wheel-drive layouts (or 4x4). Mercedes only had (with the exception of the A-Class) solely longitudinally mounted engines, that wouldn't fit in the FWD V-Class! And since there was already a joint-venture with VW in the van lineups, MB Sprinter/ VW LT, it was cheaper to carry over the VW drivetrain! You can tell the difference by its iconic engine sound, which might almost remind of an V 8 growl - but never worry, both engine and gearbox are excellent!
I'm assuming the imported lives in the U.S. or similar where cars newer than 25 years old cannot be imported and it's being stored for however long they have to wait.
But that wouldnt make sense since the CLs are valued really low, so having a very much needed space occupied for such a long time with one must not be profitable at all.
In Europe this is the V class/Viano, I don't know what's the difference between the two, but they have different names, and it's pretty much the only luxury people carrier that you can buy. I don't even know why Toyota didn't offer luxury versions for the Hiace, or why they didn't sell the Granvia/Regius here, this car would have been the only one to compete with
my mam had a viano back in 2002 it was nice like this one but no body kit or tinted windows, never had a problem then got the new shape (2004) and it was so badly build and after trade and standards got involved it got scrapped at 18months old due to been unsafe then 10 years my dad bought a 2001 vito and it was good on fuel but it rusted like hell and was fairly slow that was quickly replaced by a 95 nissan largo which is 10x better :) but tho mercs rust like hell we went to see about 5 before my dad got his and all were rotten or had major parts replaced cause of rust and the plastics seem abit cheap and rattle alittle (but its mainly a commercial) if you want a luxury people carrier or day van get a nissan largo or elgrand they are much better in quality and such even can get 4x4 versions
How can you tell...? Apparently these models run quite hot as there's not much room in engine bay. Mine always runs in the 90's and above which is a concern mostly.
The speedometer reminds me of the stupid "55", which was in most US spec cars and trucks during most of the 1980s. Well, thanks to that speed limit from 1974 to 1987.
It's reading around 90 degrees. That's fine. Most engines are just below 100 give or take. I think this one is weird because the operating temp is not right at the 50% mark like most cars.
@@PacificCoastAuto @PUmP k1n V280 standard operating temp I believe is 90º. Fans kick in at 92-97º which is a little higher than normal everyday cars around 70-80º. Heard from many VW v6 VR6 experts that these engines operate best at 97-102º which seems a lil' crazy to me. My 98 model has gone through 2 fatigued radiators already.
Nick Herrera dude our metris is a version of the v class but the metris is a shitty minivan but the v class is a lovely minivan with s class like luxury I saw a review on a brand new one and it was beautiful
viano? i was reading the title thing (what the hell is a Mercedes Viano) until i saw the pic and recognized it. here in the Netherlands it's called Mercedes Vito
apparently this car has 3 names. Vito is the cargo van, and Viano/V Class are the passenger versions. Not sure what's the difference between the V class and the Viano, but they have different names for some reason

I forgot to mention that it comes with an umbrella behind the driver's seat.
PacificCoastAuto why don't you import the Toyota alphard
You also forgot the safety deposit box you mistakingly thought was the fridge base. Love my Ambiente Umbrella. Probably worth more than my v280 haha
BONUS FACT: Left hand drive versions of the Viano uses a normal foot parking brake like other old Mercedes-Benz models in the past.
Those seats really look comfortable
Red honda motorcycle wings on the beat in the background gave me a good laugh then I remembered that K cars have motorcycle motors so it fits 😅
That's a carpenter's van in Europe...
All of them is rusted beyond oblivion......
That's the Vito, the Viano, or V class is the passenger/luxury version
0:38 this one was On my short list when I ended up getting a Honda elysion
Why did they remove the rear wiper though?
Please do a video about the Fairlady in the background.
That black Honda beat in the back
+PacificCoastAuto Did the video got cut off?
Wow supper cool video
Saw this when I got a Honda minivan RB1 Honda Odyssey
But is it naked?
Even the Autobahn has speed limits, just not everywhere.
I know it must have been answered before, but I cant find: Whats up with the CL still sitting in the back?

will there a new walkaround video thorugh the auction?
I'm not sure. USS seems to be getting picky recently and so a channel full of auction walkarounds might be targeted.
aw
Chrome Hearts is a high end jewelry company. Most of their pieces consist of crosses.
Cool van :)

then 10 years my dad bought a 2001 vito and it was good on fuel but it rusted like hell and was fairly slow that was quickly replaced by a 95 nissan largo which is 10x better :)

*I SPY AN S30Z* I hope the buyer let's us see that!
How'd mate. What's the oldest Elgrand niss you can import to the USA?. Ty. 🤔👍🇺🇸
Hi Derek just watched your vid 2000 mer V280 . In the background is a Nissan mini van can you do a vid on this or similar All the best Eric for uk
Yes, I think that video will go up in two days. It will be my first Elgrand of that generation.
Now that's a cool car! Also dangerous! haha I'm glad you didn't get decapitated :-D
No one notice that its almost over heating the engine
How can you tell...?
Apparently these models run quite hot as there's not much room in engine bay. Mine always runs in the 90's and above which is a concern mostly.
What size were the rims?
Will you show us this Honda Beat or Fairlady?
The speedometer reminds me of the stupid "55", which was in most US spec cars and trucks during most of the 1980s. Well, thanks to that speed limit from 1974 to 1987.
Im suprised it is a RHD. Being your 'high roller' van in Japan I expected it to be LHD
with those wheels it looks like it has a custom V8 swap or something
Only the Autobahn has unlimited speed parts. But not so many anymore.
No way!It has a VR6 from VW?I did not know that.
I would have mentioned it if I knew that was the case. Half the engine is under the cowl. I am happier now. Thanks for mentioning that.
It was a joint venture and it will take a min. 91 octane
The van is overheating, look at the temperature gauge.
It's reading around 90 degrees. That's fine. Most engines are just below 100 give or take. I think this one is weird because the operating temp is not right at the 50% mark like most cars.

It's not rear wheel drive!
Only a delusional Merc fanboy would deem the 2000 Mercedes Benz V-Class as reliable. I'd say cut the middle man and buy a bucket of rust instead. ^^
True dat, fo' sho'! :)
The facelifted versions were actually quite reliable.
The biggest issue on these is and will always be rust.
basically the metris predecessor
Nick Herrera dude our metris is a version of the v class but the metris is a shitty minivan but the v class is a lovely minivan with s class like luxury I saw a review on a brand new one and it was beautiful
viano? i was reading the title thing (what the hell is a Mercedes Viano)
until i saw the pic and recognized it.
here in the Netherlands it's called Mercedes Vito
Wikipedia says that Vito was the version with the cargo space in the back. Viano was a version with seats in the back.
really? i've seen a camper version of it and the regular Vito but never one like this one
apparently this car has 3 names. Vito is the cargo van, and Viano/V Class are the passenger versions. Not sure what's the difference between the V class and the Viano, but they have different names for some reason
That E46 on the back
318i with a broken engine
The engine bay was washed at the port and after that, it would not start. Was perfect before that.
600kg each door!!
Sorry, was joking
PacificCoastAuto lol yeah its hard to type sarcasm, i was joking too
As face bleedings often do...hahah
Ласточка.
Here in Europe nobody likes these vans. The reason why is that they had poor quality. Everyone just went on and bought a Japanese minivan instead.
I just wish there would be Japanese full sized vans in Europe not just minivans
Hacı şahini tanerisanı.
日本語で書いてあると言うね。
Чо показывать еще и праворульный это Канада?
600 kg is 1322 pounds those are heavy doors
This video is all screwed up
Maybe because you are an early viewer? The low-resolution comes online before the 1080.
PacificCoastAuto the video was skipping weirdly and it just ends at 18:50 in the middle of a sentence... And it still does that at the moment
That E46 on the back
