  • Azerbaijanis, when your propagandists call Lake Sevan the ancient Azerbaijani Gokcha, the first mention of Lake Sevan is the Urartian inscriptions, where either Suinia or Tsuinia is written. This is translated as Lake Sevan. Personally, as an amateur, I can explain it from the Armenian word “sev”, which means black. But most likely this is a coincidence; the more correct one is the Urartian version, Tsuinia, Suinia. So think before you listen to your porcupine historians, and in general, the coincidence of words is not the best practice for interpreting history. For example, the Italian Tyurin, the city of Tyurin, coincides with the word Turan, Tu-ran....
