I'm following your build as I'm looking to start on my own once my Transit gets delivered. After drilling the sheet metal, did you deburr and touch up the edges with paint to prevent rust? Do you think a layer of butyl behind the gasket would have been enough to make it waterproof? Thanks for the tips and techniques!
Yes, we deburred and primed after the hole was cut. There is a gasket that comes with this SmartPlug to use in lieu butyl. The plug is screwed into the sheet metal with 4 screws, but we added a wooden block behind to screws on each side to make the plug more secure. We also used leftover Loctite spray foam behind the plug to secure the wiring in place and to also provide some additional waterproofing in the wall cavity.
