Huge congratulations on breaking the ton on only your second match ever! I managed it for the first time n my life earlier this year's, and I've been match fishing (badly) for years. And without a pole too. Impressive.
Be very proud of yourself Jimmy for a very honest approach and summary. I hope your venture into the match world is a very happy one. Well done on the day with the rod and line, get yourself a reasonable pole outfit and watch a few vid's on here for tutorals. Jon Arthur is fantastic. Good luck.
As a very average angler myself, I admire your ambition. I fish the over 60’s matches every Wednesday at my local club in Norfolk. That’s enough pressure for me. I actually won my section once.
always take every bit of tackle i have with me feeder rods bomb rods pellet wagglers rods, poles all are a must to cover every eventuality, but still you did great with what you had well done. looking forward to watching more of your video's
Great to witness your first steps in matchfishing.. when playing the fish on method or bomb and no snags in the peg try and keep the tip lower on the water.. helps you have better control over the fish. Good luck 👍
Hats off to you. I have fished that swim and it is a nice swim. You should be very proud. You need a pole even if it's a margin pole for down the edge. Congratulations
Just found your videos while googling gold valley as I was on my way down there......love your honesty at your limitations! I went to GV on sat and had the best days fishing on Syndicate lake, catching a pb carp along the way. Keep up the good work
Nice jimmy , been practising exactly the same myself … all I can say is you just get better with every visit, it’s an infectious bug to get !! I ain’t ready for the pole yet …. Maybe never will 🤷🏻♂️ feeder fishing is heart stopping stuff at times and I don’t want to lose that thrill . Thanks for sharing
Just watched you at todber Manor you did really well with out a Pole I fished there 2weeks after you on the same peg as Des ship had and had 196lb same as you this is my first year doing match fishing look forward to seeing how you get on most of all have fun doing it 👍
@@realjimmywillis unlucky for me I live in romford East London and the match fishing is crappy so some time when I have to go see the wife's mum up north I can fish messingham sands which is really good or I go to white acres where iv got a caravan but the fishing there's goon down hill this year but the best place is decoy lakes Peterborough next year looking to go a lot more 🙏🎣🎣

Absolutely fantastic mate a real inspiration to us all especially folks wanting to dip there lines into the match scene outstanding and thankyou for taking us along with you 😀
Awsome fair play!! What kind of fishing did you do prior? I started in lockdown last season entered some club matches and started winning loving it now 3rd season in!
We'll done m8, you are no idiot. Learning weights is important but you did really well. Always room for improvement. The main thing is you had fun, that's what fishing is about
Hey there. New subscriber here. Loved the video. That was an amazing run of fish you had in the middle there, some lovely carp. Absolutely gutted for you going over on the nets it's so hard to guess the weights sometimes. I've seen some scales you can get that go between your landing net handle and your landing net so as you lower your fish into your landing net you can see the weight it's called Rite weigh. I'm going to look at getting one because I'm awful at guessing the weights I'm always about 20lb off 😁. Keep upmthe good work looking forward to checking out more of your videos 🐟
Well done mate, you don't learn unless you try. I've corse fished my hole life and decided first match and a 2 day festival this year and was great fun even though the fishing was crap for 90% of us (Northern Ireland big natural loughs) I have noticed in videos alot of guys would add an extra lb or 2 to the clicker or stop 10lb under limit to be safe.
Great video, well done. The rite weigh and rite count products are brilliant for keeping track of net weights. Also turn your tool bar so the knuckles face upwards, works better that way. Finally put your net bag on the floor behind your landing net to stop the handle from scraping on the floor. Hope these help! Tight lines.
The "net bag on the floor behind your landing net to stop the handle from scraping on the floor" is a great tip - thank you so much, some really helpful stuff there - that I'm sure will help other anglers just starting out as well :)
@@realjimmywillis yes. In my match on Sunday I estimated 41lb, weighed in 40lb 8 oz. I’m hopeless judging by eye and fish that look the same weight at different venues differ in weight in my experience. I have 4 rite counts attached to my keep nets. Great products. Loved the videos so far, keep them coming!
Interestingly top top class (best in the world) method feeder fishermen might be able to get 300 lb - 400lb (max) on the method in a five hour match (unlikely). Todber regular top weights are like 400lb -500lb + which can only be achieved on the pole which you didnt have one of (Todber weights are like no other fishery at this time with weights over 800+lb weights last year), . LOL This reminds me of myself starting match fishing about 6 years ago or so. AS LONG as you enjoyed it however its all a learning experience. Plus ton match on the method - second match ever is pretty mind blowing to be honest.
Well done on hitting over 100lb. For sure that peg was a flyer and your left hand margin would have produced a big weight had you been using a pole. Good fishing and well done 👍🏻
Hi mate. You can get tickets from the Angling Trust website when they are released. Keep an eye out on the Angling Trust social medias for release dates for tickets
It's shocking that you can get penalised for being inexperienced with net weights and clickers. Relying on a clicker can be as bad as not using one, if you are not used to using them. Competing with experienced anglers is hard enough without getting tripped up with nonsensical rules. Too many fishery owners are basically pricks.
@@realjimmywillis you don't learn from doing things right from the start, well done pal, takes some nerve going into that calibre of competition, it was a good draw and you fished a good match considering your limited experience, days coaching with a pro would help you polish your game up.
