Thank you so much for posting this and explaining how to do a simple pattern. It really helped me to get going on it and messing around with just making simple patterns.
Great jam! Nice to hear the RD9 doing something more ambient and atmospheric, rather than the irritating club beats every other UA-cam reviewer uses it for.
Forgive my ignorance. But if I’m not mistaken RD-9 is only mono, but you said that you are sending the outs to a mixer so you can pan them. Are you able to make them stereo when you send individual instruments out of the RD-9?
Hello, great question! You can pan the individual instruments in stereo if you are sending the individual outputs to different channels on a mixer/interface. Thanks! Jason Filloramo, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1281, Jason_Filloramo@sweetwater.com
yo when are you playing dtla? lmk! seriously though, can i use this to do 80s synth music? i'm trying to bridge the gap from guitar based rock metal to palatable electronic music so i need to do 80s and chiptune lord give me the strength fml
Guys I've discovered something that blew my socks off. The RD9 accepts midi CC. I found this out completely by accident but CC75 affects the RD9 hi hats pitch. Let me know if it works for you guys and if you find out any other CCs that work. Can't find the midi implementation chart anywhere.
Respect....I am looking for a drum machine with only percussion, or a drum machine with percussion. I have a Behringer RD 6 SR, and I want to combine it, I am only finding synths. I need some advice. RD 9 looks good though👍🏾💯
I'm on a mission to get my Yamaha DTX E-set to send individual analog pad signals into my mixer into my DAW. The closest I got to this was via midi but the midi signal is too inconsistent. My question is...will this machine accept the midi input signal from my DTX and separate each signal to then send the analog individual outs?
hi! it seems that each song can have 16 patterns and each pattern can have several loop bars... but it seems that the song is limited to 16 changes between different patterns... right?
Got this a few days ago and, although it sounds very very close to the TR-909, I've decided to return it. The buttons feel cheap and are unpleasant, the user interface is cryptic and unfriendly, the knob caps are slippery and too tall (prevents you from seeing the writing), and the external PSU has a very short lead. Also, only a mono output. I'm a Behringer fan and love my VC340 and DeepMind 12, but this was not up to my expectations, I'm sorry to say.
I think the same but i keep it. In 10 years maybe u can sell it expensive, but at least for 350,-. Nobody should forget its a 80s gear with limited functions and sounds. Also the size is very big and takes a lot of space.
Yeah also, if you already have some sort of midi controller and a daw you can use one of approximately 5000 909 Sample packs for the original 909 Sound and program the beat with the midi controller or in the piano Roll itself. I see nostalgia is a huge point here. If you only want to make Music with external Gear: different story.
I remember on another review on the RD-9 I was watching, the guy mentioned that the sequencer step buttons were soft and spongy like, but I’m this video I’m pretty sure I can hear s click when you tap them. So what’s the feel of the step buttons? Are they soft or clicky?
Hi, thanks for your interest! It had been a while since the last time I had my hands on one of these, so I just swung down to our music store to feel it for myself. I’d say the keys have a somewhat clicky feel. They feel and look a bit like PC keyboard keys from the 90s, in keeping with the retro feel of the instrument itself, if that makes sense. They work quite well for sequencing, but of course they aren’t velocity sensitive and wouldn’t be the best choice for finger-drumming. Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me directly with any further questions! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620, caleb_lowrey@sweetwater.com
My Roland 909 is still fun to play with. Then Yamaha came out with their RX series. Then came the KORG Super Percussion units. All happily (???) midi compatible. Behringer should bring out a unit that does what all of these devices did in one unit (please).
Sounds like such a "swiss army knife" would by necessity be digital. A DAW would more easily & efficiently accomplish this "all in one" dream. Not to mention *MUCH* less expensively! :]
Hello, Kurtsinsane! The RD9 can make a great drum solution for electronic music or other creative genres, but it is no substitute tone-wise for an acoustic drum kit. All the same, it can be a powerful creative tool. I recommend watching a ton of videos on this to get an idea of the sounds it can produce. Thanks for the interest! Having a hard time with a problem on the rd 9 and can’t seem to find this option in the manual. Need super help. I’m using my korg minilouge to play notes and use midi sync in the rd 9 but the notes I’m playing on the rd 9 are playing extra notes on my korg minilouge and I don’t want that. I just want my korg minilouge notes to play on time with the tempo of the rd 9. Not have the rd 9 play notes on my korg
I had the same issue when I first got up and running. It sounds like your RD-9 is sending MIDI on the same channel your Minilogue is recieving MIDI, thus it's triggering notes. Here is a helpful video to show you how to fix the issue: ua-cam.com/video/SLyrbYBcMr4/v-deo.html He's demonstrating on an RD-8, but the RD-9 has the same MIDI implementation. The relevant info starts at the four minute mark. Prior to that, he illustrates sync using the analog clock output. Hope this helps -- Jake
I like the controls and flexible wiring configurations that this unit allows. Now if it only had real studio samples. I don't like the sounds this produces. The Odyssey sounds good.
Help me understand this.. you state that the original 909 was a failure and stopped production after 2 years. We reproduce it now instead of making something new?
You DO KNOW there has been a ((Lockdown)). That said, I & MANY MUSICIANS. (Who are used to, & are Dying for a drum Machine that Sounds as close as possible to an ACTUAL Drummer) NOT an 80's CASIO $ 20 keyboard !!! Soooo... Do you have such a thing available ??? Thank you !
To get real drum sounds, EZ Drummer works really well (if you want to use tracks from a computer). If not, maybe try a Beat Buddy pedal to practice with real drum sounds as a non-drummer.
@@davemccall9594 Thanks Dave ! I've been playing with AMAZING Drummers, ( Original music in touring bands for years ) Since the lockdowns ect. I don't like playing alone. Having a great rhythm section to Bounce off of... is part of how Magic is made. Hopefully the Music scene will come back. ( Other things in the foreseeable future ) don't look so wonderful.
I heard the same about Behringer. Yet I bought RD-8 and a RD-9. You get an awesome machine for the price with individual analog outputs. For reference I have several drumcomputers like the Jomox Alpha Base and Elektron Analog Rytm MKII and cheaper ones also.
The RD-9 offers vintage vibe and modern features for the discerning DJ 🎧
That jam at the end was an emotional performance, and it touched my soul.
Thanks mate! Liked you tune at the end too.
Best Odyssey demo I’ve seen!
Love the Skinny Puppy mention
Happy to have my RD-9 thanks to Sweetwater. Definitely going to purchase another one when available again. 👍👍👍👍👍

Glad you loved it, Jamey! 💙
I'm very happy with my RD-6 that I got from Sweetwater 😊
I’ve been waiting for this for years.
Problem is now I got kids and no room for it.
: (
I just got mine from you guys!! just your quick start tips has helped a lot , thanks!
Good review and jam brotha!
I really liked that filter sound to your Synth sound
damn that beat kills
yeaaaah !! Thats cool ! Thats art!
One word... MUST
Nice demo and great performance 🔥🔥🔥🤘

yeah whats up with that. now i understand they hated that device when it was released
"authentic interpretation" is an oxymoron of the purest form! PR speak is straight from 1984.
I already have a tr-8s so totally don’t need the Rd-9 but I totally want it :-)

Looking forward to these being in stock. Have $200 bonus bucks expiring in March, so hopefully they’ll show before that disappears.

I think I need this
The entire demo got outshadowed by Odyssey and its solid analogue sound. I will take Odyssey, no need in Behringer module, HAHAHA!
Glad someone said it.
You do realise it is the behringer odyssey?
Love my RD-9, but the main mono and phones are noisey as all hell. Guess its another excuse to get a 2nd mixer for the clean individual outs :o
Does this machine have acoustic drum sounds?
'authentic interpretation'
pick one
It's good

Skinny Puppy ⚙️💀⚙️
So, when will they be back in stock?
I am whelmed. Great Odyssey sounds though.
Imagine making an entire ten-minute video about a 909 and not mentioning Daft Punk
Should the USB jack be centered in its box?
Need one of these

So this might be a dumb question but could this be a substitute for having a real drummer studio wise ? Like can it sound like an actual set ?

Yes but does it have COWBELL ???

You're missing the point of the RD-9.

a commercial failure when it originally released. it then became extremely popular in songs/gentes during the 90s
