(No I actually adore the animation and the soundtrack with the amazing production value, the plot is what I do not like though.)
This movie just casually dropped one of the best fights in anime history right in the middle
Ikr that fight was so fuckin cool! The series as a whole had some really bad ass fights actually. I adore this franchise.
@@mhiggs8001 one of the best fights in the middle of the movie and one of the worst plots through out the movie, look how they massacred my girl homura

The way Mami knows there's no way she'd lose if she's went all out.
@@Zoalde and what would "going all out" mean in Mami's case?
@@lolitamolita5354 I will assume you haven't watched Magia Record nor read Oriko Magica/The Different Story. I recommend you to. They really showcase Mami's true potential.
@@Zoaldehavent read oriko magica but if you're talking about holy mami that isnt only mami's power
Honestly, I like this fight scene wayyy better than the most famous shonen fight scenes. The fight has an amazing choreography, there's no unneccessary dialogue and it truly shows Mami's natural skill and Homura's experience.
That's why I love PMMM battles; it's simple and clean, without unneeded elements.
Another key thing is that the stakes are clear and emotionally high, and the tension was built beautifully.
@@NIHIL_EGO Yup, totally agreed. No powerlevel nonsense either makes it great too, because any of the 5 can beat any of the others if the situation is right. Seeing a more experienced and confident Sayaka have the upper hand over Homura in Rebellion was very cool!
@@EvilMagnitude You don't know how much I hate power wanking.
Note that the fight also has escalation in it, since in the first minute of the Gunfight Homura was mainly aiming at Bebe while Mami tries to 'parry' those bullets with her musket
Then when they run into each other as Bebe crosses between the two, they finally points their gun at each other and starts shooting, albeit rather inaccurately.
But then after they clashed once in melee range, they finally decided to just go all out and start aiming for headshots all the way until the end of the fight.
One of my favorite scenes. PITY THE ANIMATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This fight was my absolute favorite part of the movie. The music, the animation, the two most badass magical girls going at it with guns blazing... breathtaking
Watched Rebellion yesterday...
I agree.
I loved that scene, but my favorite scene was the Homura vs Kyubey thing, before Homura turns into a witch. I like the entire movie though, so it’s hard to choose an actual scene that’s my favorite
@@selmasanlsoy9041 Aawww, how did you get to watch the movie?
@Omega Thanks!
@Omega Yeah it's a shame they took it off Netflix because getting a proper US copy at an affordable price was impossible for me. Thankfully my PC is region free so I got (what I believe is) a European copy.
I have never, ever bothered to remember the names of composers for movie or TV soundtracks. I'm not a music person, and I rarely even acknowledge background music in things all that much, my focus is usually on the writing. I would struggle to name any current TV/movie composers in my own country, much less in Japan.
But god damn, I will forever remember the name Yuki Kajiura.
As you should.

Soryuki sawana yuki kaijuri and shiro shagisu is the best soundtrack maker anime series and movie
I guess so,
My situation is different from yours, but interestingly there are some overlaps.
I am mostly a gamer and not really an anime guy, so when it comes to music I tend to take interest in video game music much more easily than music from most other media (that is to say, anime music generally are just cool but rarely catchy and movie music usually are just ambient).
However, Kajiura's music got my attention quite quickly, which is an oddball for me until I read about her and found that she also composed a few video game music. Probably why her music catches on to me to easily XD
As so i did too
Imagine this: Madoka Magica Movie 4 releases, Devil Homura and Ultimate Madoka are about to have a big battle, and a remix of this plays in the background.
I just came from the image alone...
That would be so Awesome😎
But where would Homura get the power of literally god from?
@Master Robotnik I think that you left the block mayus activated xD
I'd be happy if it just got a chance to shine in Madoka record.
“We know each other’s moves too well, but at this rate do you really think you can beat me?”
“I can outlast you that’s for sure”
"In terms of endurance, I can outlast you"
In dub its i can outlast you in japenese sub in terms of endurance thats a difference
@@creppsdep713 i mean, they both mean the same thing
@@Shadow_Sonata are you referring to the Japanese, if you want to be more accurate, then its not "I can outlast you" . Homura said , "In terms of endurance/stamina. *makenai wa / I wont lose". So its "In terms of endurance, I wont lose". Well, setting aside the accuracy of the words used, I love how viewers remember those line or those scene, it proves how awesome this scene was.
Still not sure if Homura was referencing her time travel or calling Mami old.
Pfffft ha.
I just realized the background is a huge spoiler.
If you look at the structure in the background, it looks like the inside of a soul gem. And the dark background can look like homura's pitch black soul gem.
***** Yes, I LOVE the symbolism that this series sews in. It's so subtle, yet when you realize it, it seems so obvious.
I didn't even realize
Well now that you say that people know it’s a spoiler
I think it's actually the "incubator structure"
There’s also Nagisa
Four orchestras and half the animation team died making that one scene.

+Randy Julio yep, different music, same awesome composer.
+puttymon No you're wrong...
It's not just your opinion, it's a fact.
Going back on topic, this is easily one of my most favored tracks from Rebellion/Hangyaku,
mainly beacause it's the background music during the MOST EPIC Mami vs Homura fight scene.
I might've watched that scene itself almost a hundred times.
this fight is amazing indeed
This is probably why they didn't deuce it out in the anime because of the damage the fight would have caused.🤣

Homura: “ha ha gun go pew pew”
Any other magical girl: No! You can’t just use regular weapons to fight off enemies! You have to use your abilities you got when you became a magical girl!
Homura: Well then wtf am i supposed to do with a shield
Throw it around ala captain america
@Totally not the flash :3 but she has a bow too!! (at the end of the series)
@@sergiobayona152
(bear in mind I have no idea whether the writer came up with these)
in the spinoff manga taking place before Rebellion, Homura has lost her time powers (though she still has her shield) and they are replaced with the power to modify memories and to summon a magical bow.
I think we all can already infer what has happened. The wish a magical girl makes determines a large part of her powers. If the wish were to somehow change, maybe the abilities would too. When reality changed and Madoka ceased to exist inside reality, Homura's wish changed from "I wish to go back in time to protect Madoka" to simply "I wish to remember Madoka"
This is where the bow came from too (according to the spinoff).
Oddly, this implies that simply transcending time was not actually enough to remember the old reality
@@okkoheinio5139 What does Homura mean when she said the shield is a witch
that guitar at 1:30 gives me chills every time
It is my favorite moment in this soundtrack (1:31-1:54)
0:54 - 1:30 is my favorite part. It's so elegant, and beautiful I can't put it into words how much I love it
Now I just want to recommend this song to someone who wants a good fighting theme and when they ask "Where is it from?" just tell them straight to the face "It's from a show about magical girls".
[SPOILERS] The thing about the ending is it's not at all the knee-jerk a lot of people make it out to be. Madoka says at the end of the original series that she sees all timelines and universes that were and will be. She knew exactly what was gonna happen before she even began the operation to rescue Homura. Homura talks a big game about how evil she is because of her whole dragging God to earth schtick, but all she really did was alter the universe to protect Madoka's identity further. She's learned to not rely on others for support over the years and years that she's been fighting, but at the end of the day, she's still the scared little girl we first met in the hospital bed. At the end of the movie, you see someone who's supposed to have comparable [though I'd still say less] power to Godoka keeping a constant vigil on a rooftop, scared that at any moment Godoka will finally break through once more and oust her as the evil villain she is trying so damn hard to prove she is. She knows it can't last, but she is so damn scared to finally let go and not have an active role in the universe. But Godoka sees through it already. She'll be back, and she'll have already forgiven Homura. And Homura will be left with the awful, wonderful realization that she is not nearly the monster she thinks of herself as, and try as she might, she is truly lovable.
Actually, nah not exactly. At the end where Homura was putting the ribbons back in Madoka's hair, she says "Then I suppose someday, you will become my enemy as well. But i don't care. I will continue to wish for a world in which you will be happy". That's basically everything she's been working for. For Madoka to be happy. Plus, in the "Flower Scene" when Homura was talking with the no memory Madoka... Madoka says that she would never go somewhere so far away that she would never see her friends or family again. So then, Homura knew she made a slight mistake. Now, she thinks Madoka became a god unwillingly. So then, we get our Rebellion ending.
Oh I don't think Madoka knew. Because when Homura grabs her she's obviously surprised. If Madoka knew this was going to happen, she most likely would've been more careful, something like that.
DatMamiHead I don`t think that Homura understands the concept of the Law of cycels.Madoka is obviously not alone, since we have seen Sayaka and Nagisa comming with her to save Homura, there are probably other magical girls that Madoka saved from turning into witches. So they live happily in the Madoka heaven, but Homura does not realise that, and since Madoka didn`t remmember anything in the flower scene,it all turned out to be a big confusion in Homuras head, witch resoulted in the Rebelions ending
So I guess Rebellion shows Homura's breaking point... O_O
DatMamiHead Well, yeah you can definitly put it that way Q_Q
Guns and Strings VS Guns and Time Stop
this is not only simply the greatest anime to ever be, but is also a pinnacle of animation as a medium, along with it's musical score, which is also held in as high of a regard, it comes together as a masterpiece that is better than all anime to come before it, and will continue to be the highest peak of the anime medium for the rest of time.
I agree in the fact that is a great anime, beyond any imagination, however the peak of anime as a whole, hard to tell, there are a lot of great animes out there, but this anime is in the same league as Gundam Thunderbolt, Guren no lagann, Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood or even Evangelion, without dude a top edge anime and a beacon of the maho shoujo genre, for sure even the most innocent "magic girl" franchises old or new like "pretty cure" have gotten influenced by it.
Anime series yes but this soundtrack is from Movie 3, which was mediocre thanks to questionable plot decissions.
Its top 3 , made in abyss and fate zero are better for me

Since we know a fourth movie is about to happen, Iet's find out what banger will miss Yuki Kajiura drop. This one is the epitome of perfection, but I want to see if she's capable of creating another one.
Homura gave us an end where everyone is happy together, she made Kiubey starts to feel pain and suffering like her felt, she protected everyone in the end, even the witches. Madoka world were good, but Homura world is perfect (until Madoka starts to remember everything like she said in the end).
yes, she created the perfect lie so madoka can be blindly happy
@@Terrorvenue it is not a fake world it is just the real one but with another layer on top, and yes she is blindly happy, herself told before that she would never leave her friends and family to be a god, it was a miserable existance so if you see it from that perspective... yes everyone is happily blinded and the incubators are suffering, the best ending.

This fight scene is the best in all of anime
Here are some I believe are better:
Saber alter Vs Berseker; Saber alter vs Rider; Lancer vs Assassin; Quetzalcoatl vs Tiamat; Saitama vs Boros; Karna vs Sieg; Mordred vs Semiramis; Xuan vs Final Form Peacock Demon; Kiritsugo vs Kirei (mainly due to the sheer weight behind the fight)
Pretty much one of the best ones of all time. On par with many Fate battles (IMO), and also one of the coolest battles I've watched. Even better than watching Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and even Punch Man fights imo.
Yuki being a goddess of musical composition as always
god i love the soundtrack in the movie and the fight 🤩
Madoka is to Magical Girl anime what Evangelion is to Giant Robot anime. Terrific deconstructions of genre tropes coupled with amazing characterizations and subversion of expectations.
I find it hilarious that the majority of the fans that dislike this movie is because they are butthurt about Homura being portrayed in a bad light
+Lanvidia12 That's true. That and the amount of symbolic events that occurred within the film that some people cannot comprehend. I, for one, loved the movie!
This movie was deep and powerful as shit. If you didn't like it you didn't get it, plain and simple. The end was not a 'plot twist' and Homura was in-character throughout the entire fucking movie. She's my #1 favorite anime character of ALL TIME and yet I understand that she did something bad, but for the right reason.
Desa Iree I totally agree with you. People hate on it because they don't understand it. This is one of the few animes out there where it gets you thinking. There is no way someone can comprehend the movie by watching it once. The ending, like you said, wasn't a plot twist. The field of flowers scene can justify that ending. This anime, after watching the series and Rebellion movie several times, has became my favorite anime and has made Homura my #1 or #2 (it keeps fluctuating) favorite character.
+Desa Iree
PREACH.
I loved the ending, it gave Homura a good conclusion. I get it if you don’t like it, but if it’s just because Homura was in character and got what she deserved, that’s like saying Sayaka’s ark was done horribly wrong, because in the end, Homura and Sayaka’s ark were extremely similar, Homura’s is just more extreme.
The more I look into it and watch the movie, the more I understand an appreciate what they did with the plot. Nonetheless, the end is still a bit jarring and I wish they had given us some more clues to It so it could be more like, "Oh, this makes sense now!" instead of "What the hell just happened?" I feel like it could have been better and I can easily see where you're coming from with your disliking of the plot. Took me a while to even think about liking it after watching it.
Anyway, this has no relevance to the song, so let me say this: thank you for the upload, this song is easily of my of favorite tracks from the movie and from the entire series.
Spoilers!:
I think the ending was a reverse of the original ending of the anime. See, as you know what happened in the anime, fate wrapped around Madoka, but fate also wrapped around Homura, more so, but rather than hope, she was wrapped in despair, and like Madoka, reached a god like status but in the reverse, she transcended beyond a witch.
Pixi lol but that's all just along the lines of speculation. It could also just be a set up for yet another sequel, which I'm sure it will be. I just hope that they don't suck the Madoka series dry of content cuz that'll really ruin the series for me if they keep trying to make content out of a series that really did not need any extra added to it.
AznHoboOVER9000
Yeah it does seem like there is to be a sequel, and I hope there is, but I see the issue there. Either way, this was a good addition.
***** This isn't a confirmation but just an assumption made form speculation
Pixi This is exactly what happened. It's not even speculation. It's a logical conclusion. To everyone who doesn't get it, Madoka gained her power because Homura was tinkering with so many different timelines. All that power of each individual kept amassing wherever Homura would go until Madoka one shot Walpurgisnacht. She literally drew the lines of fate of many entities into a single form, the one that eventually became a god. So, please tell me why Homura would be immune to the same effect? She's replacing herself in each timeline thus would actually be under an even stronger distortion. So, her transformation is inevitable. Why was it the anti-thesis to Madoka? Obviously because her desire was a selfish one and directly denied Madoka's benevolent wish. She knows this and admits that some day when Madoka regains her memories and power, they will fight. Homura only sought to save Madoka from her fate while Madoka sought to save everyone else. This clash of opposing forces.
Just watched the movie. All I can say is wow.
The Puella Magi anime OST was always amazing, but the movie OST kicks it 9n the teeth by several miles. It's too damn godly.

Am I the only one who likes the ending? Seriously guys this is actually a happy end, So what if Homura pulled madoka down from her throne? She only took a fraction of her memories away and even managed to get sayaka and nagisa back with her. Yes it was selfish, but she did it out of love. And in the end she still put all the magical girls' suffering to an end by having that filth kyubey take care of all the worlds curses. Hence: no witches, no wraiths, madoka and homura are together as are sayaka and kyoko and mami and nagisa. They can now live the life of normal girls and be happy as friends. Yes the day will come when homura and madoka fight but madoka will see her reason for doing this and will forgive her. This for me is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than poor madoka having to handle all of the mahou shoujos curses and live only as a thought known only by homura (and tatsuya). I personally am really really happy they can all lead a happy life now. Yes their memories have been altered a little but so what ? That dosent change who they are. Just my opinion.
Shhh, some people aren't happy unless it's a Disney ending.
i love how it's not a disney ending. instead, it's a huge plot twist.
dung bunny Yup. Disney endings suck ass. In fact Disney itself is gay as hell (just my opinon, Dont want to offend anyone). I hate how they have these unrealistic endings where everybody lives happily ever after. In the words of Itachi sama (may he rest in piece): 'Happily ever after' exists only in fairy tales.
Aman Haridas To be fair, Disney does make most of its movies based on Fairy Tales.
I liked the ending. I thought it summed up the show entirely. You thought it was going to be happy and then Gen the butcher decides to take it away and feast on your tears.

OH MY GOD! JUST REALIZED THE CELLOS ARE PLAYING HOMURA'S THEME. (Or maybe the entire song is her theme?)
(Spoilers) This is probably the most emotionally sad but perfect thought provoking anime I have ever seen. It was sad that Homura had to go back time and time again to save Madoka from dying or becoming a witch. However the final time she went back Madoka asked Horuma to never allow her to become a Magical girl, which by the end of the initial series she effectively failed when Madoka chose to take on all the curses onto herself and destroy all the witches and become a God. The enemy of this series are the Incubators, by becoming a Demon Homura became "Evil" and changed the entire fabric of space and time however it suppressed the Incubators from using human kind's emotions as a source of energy and it gave Madoka a chance to be a normal human girl again with her family. By becoming the essence of Evil Homura gave balance to the universe and gave Madoka a second chance. Although not a permanent fix because Madoka would not approve once she find's out, she did effectively create a universe to honor Madoka's wishes before she last died in the initial series.
What an awesome soundtrack! Surely one of the best IMO out of all the soundtracks of the series, and let's be honest,Yuki Kajiura did a perfect job there...It sure is in my top 10 Madoka Magica OST's!

i will never understand why people hate this movie. it wrapped shit up beautifully
It's basically 90% redoing whar was done already and also the ending is pretry terrible. Mostly cause it was changed last minute to make more sequels
how is anything in this movie "redoing" anything? and how is the ending terrible? homura's wish was never granted by the end of the tv series, and she transformed into a demon because entropy had to make her as or more powerful than madoka so that homura's wish could finally be granted. remember, it was "to meet madoka all over again, but instead of madoka protecting me, i want to be strong enough to protect her"
and the wish was only finally granted when madoka almost remembered she was a god and homura stepped in to stop her. though she got her wish, she made an enemy of all her friends and even the one she cared for the most.
honestly, the series could have ended there and been a perfect wrap up to the series but i'm glad we're getting more now. i just hope the story isn't impossible to follow like magia record was.
@@mrtesticlease4638 the funny thing is: That was never the intended ending. Gen is just that good at salvaging last minute changes, in fact, the 3th movie's script was ffinoshed back in 2015, shortly after Gaim had finished(given how Gaim is written, its ending was likely similar to what Gen wanted to end Movie 3 in).
Homura's original wish is hilarious. Since it was in its nature to never come true. She has to redo her first meeting and become strong enough to protect her, but because she has to redo that first meeting she can't be strong enough to protect her to give her a reason to redo that first meeting. And then Wraith Arc came to explain how the fuck Homura could chop Madoka in two: Homura's wish changed to something else(because Homura is a priviledged piece of shit), this new wish was to be the sword that strikes down Madoka's enemies and since in Homura's head The Law of Cycles is Madoka's enemy keeping her trapped. This development is not new though. This was done in 2011's Oriko Magica via Kirika Kure(who was purposely made to be a Dark Homura) and Homura herself reacting very violently to being called out on her pointless quest dooming the planet countless times(btw, she isn't reversing time, she's escaping to other worlds as shown in Oriko Magica, Oriko Sadness Prayer and Magia Record's awful anime). I'm not even against her negative arc, I'm against her being a shameless retread of Kirika(heck, the whole speech on love is something Kirika said with just slightly different wording). Most people call the movie mostly filler as the real plot doesn't start until midway through, I appreciate the attempt at making Homura less of a nothing character, but we already had most of this via The Different Story, Oriko Magica and the anime itself, speaking of redoing: The whole plot of Homura's Labyrinth was done before in Kazumi Magica via its own city wide barrier also establishing a false reality for the Magical Girls in that town, although in their case, the lie isn't as credible and their "Madoka" is beyond saving. And let's not forget the utter waste of space Nagisa has been for five years until Magia Record actually gave her a story and character, you can't even justify Nagisa as a token filler because Yuma did her niche already and did it better cause she actually had a dynamic with the characters.
I'll defend the plot of Magia Record: The Game. The anime is pretty awful, wholly reliant on the game for context and 90% of its changes were inferior to the original plot beats.
@@jouheikisaragi6075 bruh im learning so much here
wait so do other puella magi series have the same characters as madoka magica??? im looking at Oriko Magica and it has the same characters are they THE same characters or different versions of them
this shit is confusing wtf
i stand corrected, my bad
what order should i watch/read all these series in anyway if they're all canon to eachother
@@mrtesticlease4638 release order is ideal. So it would be:
1) Kazumi Magica(only Mami and Kyoko cameo here very minorly, it has cheesecake and some gore so read at your own discretion, it has a wholly new cast of characters although it lays down the groundwork for a lot of later Madoka works and their concepts, such as being the first ever mention of Kyoko's original Magic "Rosso Phantasma"), KazuMagi was released at the same time as the anime aired(since Jan 2011) and was written alongside Madoka as a sister piece, some of the lore in Madoka is locked behind Kazumi such as the origin story of Walpurgisnacht.
2) Oriko Magica, a direct prequel to the anime, following Kyoko and newcomer Yuma Chitose. OriMagi happens within Homura's many attempts at saving Madoka and it contains foreshadowing to Homura's arc in Rebellion, a great set of antagonistic mirrors of Madoka and Homura and the very first hint at Mami and Kyoko's true relationship(which actually clarifies Kyoko's actions in the anime). Within OriMagi there are two sub mangas, Extra Story: An alternate scenario that may take place either at the same time as the anime or in the very first timeline(as Oriko's motivations are actually the fault of Homura's Time Travel). And Sadness Prayer: Oriko Magica's original story told from Oriko's perspective. This is the only time you should break release order and read OriMagi, Sadness Prayer and Extra Story in that order.
3) Madoka Magica: The Different Story, yet another story within Homura's many failed attempts. This one is completely focused on Kyoko and Mami, revealing the truth behind their actions in the anime and even showing their true relationship(it made me Ship KyoMami).
4) Suzune Magica, my favorite of the spinoffs due to how short and quick it is. It has tons of issues but Suzune is such a great protagonist that I forgive it. SuzuMagi doesn't even have cameos from the anime cast, it's borderline irrelevant beyond some references in Magia Record.
5) Tart Magica: The Legend of Jeanne D'Arc, crazy manga. It's like Kazumi 2.0 in terms of insanity, it shows how Magical Girls worked in the distant past and its protagonist Joan "Tart" of Arc is in the original anime, if briefly.
6) Madoka Magica: Wraith Arc, this one is very weak IMO and while it is a direct sequel to the anime and leads straight into Rebellion, it just makes everything weirder. It actually expands upon the world Madoka made post anime though.
Optional: Madoka Magica: Homura's Revenge, nothing too special. Kind of a proto Tart Magica and has one bit of lore. Yet another one of Homura's attempts. Homura Tamura, peak fiction. Ever wanted Homura to catch a break and laugh a little? This one's it, we also see how Homura grows up as an adult. Lastly: Magia Record the Game, AVOID THE ANIME. Before going into MagiReco, read every manga first as the most recent chapter of the story features a cameo by every alternate Protagonist(Kazumi, Oriko, Tart and Suzune). I also recommend reading everything by release order(so story, Character side stories and events by their release order).
That is my recommended order for this clusterfuck of a franchise numbers 4-6 and optional were made after Rebellion meanwhile numbers 1-3 are pre Rebellion
i was in tears when watching both the series and the movie *sob
homura shouldn't suppose to end like this :'(
amazing music by the amazing yuki kajura
People! There's no reason to not accept someone's opinion just because it's different from yours!
Imagining two fans of something arguing about a topic (a heated argument) as this music plays.
My fav scene ever
SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD EARGASM!!!
what if the ultimate ending after this rebellion stuff is madoka and homura both sacrificing themselves to ultimately and finally neutralize all of the despair in the universe? Madoka is hope itself, and Homura has become despair itself. what if they were to come to an understanding and merge in love and destroy one another, and leave the universe as a normal one without wraiths, witches or magical girls? as though the books were balanced all at once, and now all that's left is the normal universe without any cruel system of hope to despair, with all of the normal former magical girls living happy lives as normal girls?
+Roobz Z
I have a feeling that would mean a permanent stagnation of the universe. It's not exactly a pretty ending either.
Well, then agian, the PMMM series has been set up in a way that no ending can ever really be happy, so you just try to make the best for those who you hold dearest to you.
If this happens then either the Incubators re-create the cycle or the universe is irrevocably doomed to death through entropy.
MultiCommissar
is that really such a bad thing, rather then letting a pointless cycle whirl on and on?
ours is also doomed to death through entropy. doesn't affect us in the slightest, though.
Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination
The devil and god fight for what they believe is right to them
my whole life track changed when i watched this anime at 12
