    40 years ago, the love of my life and I would listen romantically together to this affectionate recording by The Furies. It became a theme song for us. Then he died. I have been alone, grieving, for the past 15 years. Now, years later, I am myself too old to dream, but this same recording assures me still - his kiss lives every day in my heart. The Furies bring precious consolation.

      So sorry ..I know how it feels...my only love and I were married for 56 years...When he died it felt as if my own life had ended...I miss him so much....🌸🌸🌸🌺🌺🌺💔

    I just went in a lovely little circle that has me in tears. My mother used to sing this song to my Dad. I hadn't heard it in years (I'm now 72) so I looked it up and found this version. It tugged at my heart, and made me remember my mother singing it so much. I had never heard the Fureys before, so I looked up other songs they sing, and I found Finbar Furey singing "I remember you singing this song, Ma." I guess it was meant to be, but I'm a bit of a mess at the moment. I'm so glad to realize there is still a lot of beauty in the world---we just have to choose what we focus on.

    My husband and I used to go dancing at a local venue....this beautiful song was played as the last dance of the evening....' When I Grow too Old to dream.' Now I am alone with many memories and I remember this one with affection....

    Mum is 92yrs old and has Alzheimer's...she sings weekly at a local Singalong...this is the song she is always asked tae sing...she sings it with gentle emotion and brings the house down...the Fureys version is defo her favourite..Thankyou!

    My dad sadly passed away on the 24th February and this is the song we having played at his funeral on the 17th march I'm listening to this with tears in my eyes r.i.p dad love and miss you loads xxx

    I also remember my Dad singing this to my Mum. They met when at school at the age of 14 and were together until my Dads death in 1963. My Mom missed him every day . God bless them both xx

    This has memories of been a young lad and lots of uncles & aunts and me dad ,but time tells and sadly lost so many over the yrs my dad at 56 twenty yrs ago .and a aunt Kathy who loved these the fureys . Rip x

    I lost my husband in 2006 I'm now growing old alone we was married for nearly 40 years he was 28 years older than me and I still love and miss him so so very very much.
    I don't want memories I want him even now it's 2024.

    I play piano professionally....at retirement communities in AZ...DeAnna at the Keys....I just became aware of this song....just LOVE it!! This is a beautiful rendition!! And of course, love Vera Lynn and her recording also!

      Yes, Finbar plays (plucks, rather) a five-string banjo in most of his songs from their album "The Best of The Furys and Davy Arthur".
      I mention to people that my favourite album/group features a singer who sounds like an octogenarian and plucks a banjo ... well, I get odd looks.😊
      In this song, however, I think Finbar's strings evoke a particularly poignant melancholy.

    I remember been called in by john feeney who wrote ad-lib in an evening paper,to help the furey brothers with the fear of flying,i do not think that they really needed any help,as they did not seem to be afraid of anthing,a lovely bunch of lads.

    This is not an Irish song, it was written by Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein. The Irish have a habit of claiming songs not written by them. They've been doing it for years.
