Yes, but she's been making an effort to make up with him. And he's been receptive to the possibility. Not explicitly and pretty reluctantly but the signs were there. So he hasn't moved on, quite obviously. He's just understandably reluctant to get hurt again since he knows that the family obstacle is still there and it's up to her to break out of that toxic environment even though it's not that easy. She's a victim of abuse. Not physical abuse but mental abuse which is just as debilitating. Abuse victims get blamed a lot for "choosing" to stay with their abusers but it's never that simple, believe me. Xu Qin hesitates, vacillates, and is indecisive a lot but guess what? That's what happens. I've seen people close to me break up with their abusive partners only to go back to them again. When she broke up with him, she was young - they both were - and under her manipulative mother's thumb. She's adopted and basically has been controlled and conditioned by her mother like a dog throughout her whole life. Of course that when she's forced to choose between her family and him (when his/their future was also so uncertain, with him not getting into college and thus them both not having much financial means at that point), she's going to choose her family. If you were like 18 and chose a boy over your family, I think the majority of people would just call you plain stupid. Here, from her point of view, he hasn't been really trying in their relationship. She'd like to see that if she does go against her family, it won't be for nothing. Obviously, she doesn't know about everything he went through for her and it's not like it'd be easy for him to tell her that her family is trash when she's so attached to them as a result of her background. No one really wants to be the reason a family is broken. (You could argue that she'd be better off without that family but people are not black and white. Her mother does love her in some way and has been good to her in other ways. That doesn't just go away.) Some people call her efforts meager but I'm not quite sure what else could she do when he's so reluctant (again, understandably). She's basically stalking him a little bit and doing anything more than that could be disturbing, bordering on harassment, in my opinion. All in all, no one's in the wrong in this situation (except the mother, eff that woman) and I have empathy for both of them. I wish more people did and didn't just simply dismiss Xu Qin's character as weak (character development exists!) or Song Yan's as cold.
