Snake plant soil propagation

- I used sand to improve drainage of the soil. Sand is excellent for improving drainage. You can find sand of different sizes, it's better to use medium to coarse sand (0.25 - 2mm) as it provides larger pore space. The problem is it's very heavy, so you can't use a lot of it, and you can't use it in large pots, as they become very difficult to manipulate.
Since there is no drainage hole on this pot, I had to water very carefully, not too much. I'll post updates with the growth :)
These cuttings will revert back to sansevieria trifasciata. If you want to keep the same plant, you need to propagate with a piece of the rhizome.
Let me know if you have any questions :)

I would love to see the results
Feel like an ASMR planting👍.
Did you put one piece of leaf up side down? And does that even root? We will be glad to see the results as a part of video...
Not upside down. That leaf already cut in two piece early in the video
If you place it upside down, it won't be able to absorb water and will die
@@CARNIVORBROS it looks cut on he other side!
@@MrHouseplant why does it look like you did put it upside down though?
Amo questa pianta!
Nice one
Thank you very much! 😊
Wow now im gonna do this👍useful vedio😎
Glad you liked it :)

Heating pad? Ive never heard of this, how does it work to improve plant rooting?
Nice
A piece of mine grew one root then died after I got super excited about it

Then u watered way too much? That happens to me...I tell myself all the time" PUT THE WATER DOWN"😆💧 I'm learning as I'm loosing them😲😇🤷🏻♀
Snake plnat so beautiful
Glad you like it :)
Will the leaves grow back on the plant you cut?
No bro it will not grow
It won't grow from where it was cut but will grow new pups
Maybe that's where the " upside down V" looks come in handy, too( besides it being solely for roots to be able to form more easily). I'm just thinking ( bc idk I've never actually done it) ,but if she wouldn't have cut the leaf straight across and did the "V" ( upside down) on the leaf she cut ,then it wouldn't leave the plant with straight cuts, as it was growing back,ya know? It could keep the natural pointy snake plant look that way..Idk ,just a thought 🤔.
Do we have to keep this in sunlight?I heard this is an indoor plant. Winter is going in our country.
What kind of soil & sand you mixed?
I was looking for that to! I need to know because I have snake plants that are roots and will need to be potted really done
How long to keep on heat pad and what is its substitute
A few hours per day. And a alternative would to sit it outside during the spring and summer and to use a heating pad or heat lamp dining fall and winter. And if you don’t have one it won’t affect the growing process
What was the white in the soil mix? Perlite??
Yes, and a soil that is more coaco husk ,they love QUIK drainge..and lil water..like I wait 2 wks or so between watering also ,bottom water ..if u wet top of succulants they rot so easy🥀
It appears to be perlite
It's perlite
What does the heat mat do tho?
They like heat & humidity..like if u live in Asia ur plant will do great ,as my Orchids grew like weeds on Guam🌿🌹
The heat mat speeds up propagation. Increasing the temperature of the propagation medium by a few degrees can cut propagation time in half 😊
@MrHouseplant how long do you keep it on the heat mat?
@MrHouseplant is it like 24hrs? For days?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
♥️👍
:)
I feel like mine always rots. When I put it in water. And when I put it in soil it doesn't work either. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
There are several things you can do to improve chances of success:
1) Sterilize cutting tools to reduce chances of infection
2) Let the cutting callus for a few days before putting in water or soil
3) Keep in front of the brightest window, and/or use a grow light. Light increases photosynthesis
4) If water propagating, use a heat mat and an air pump. If soil propagating, use a heat mat, and a humidity dome could be beneficial
5) Replace water every week
None of these guarantee success, but any of these will increase chances of success
Will we get varigatet snake plant after leaf propogation
Excellent question. No, leaf propagation of a variegated snake plant will produce a non-variegated plant. If you want to get a variegated plant, take a piece of rhizome with the leaf
@@MrHouseplant thankyouu
kho hiểu!
Need to see results or else I o
Won't believe it
Why can’t I successfully propagate my snake plant w soil or even with water :(
Try sterilizing the cutting tools and letting the cuttings callous. Also try using a rooting hormone and providing more light. Ideally use a heat mat as well :) Of course, try 10 cuttings instead of 1-2, it increases the chances of success
I succeeded in all the three ways of propagating snake plant... In water, try changing the water once or twice a week and keep it in indirect sunlight... The roots will appear in about 1and a half month... And if your leaves rot cut the bottom part, If you can keep it in a vessel in which the leaf does not touch the bottom then do so... And in water propagation you don't have to let it callous over... In soil you have to let it callous over... Don't let the cuttings dry out.... I mean to say that you can water it by seeing if the top soil is dry... Don't overwater it.. Otherwise your cuttings will be soggy and gross... U can use turmeric, cinnamon, honey or the mixture of the three as a rooting hormone... Don't loose hope 💚💚it might take some time but you will succeed... I had to try twice then I succeeded.... Hope it helps:):)
heat mat?? what is that .is it available in the garden shop
Yes, it is. It's a rubber mat that you plug in electricity, that increases the temperature of soil/water by 5-10 degrees. It speeds up propagation
Did you plant some upside down?
Nope, they wouldn't propagate if they were upside down
Trying this now after a single v cut leaf in water isn't doing anything.
It takes weeks, even months to propagate a snake plant, if the conditions aren't optimal (good light, good temperature of the propagation medium, oxygen for the roots) :) I suggest trying with several cuttings at the same time and increasing light, warmth and oxygen by using a grow light, a heat mat and using a porous potting mix :)
@@MrHouseplant Thank you!
@@sansiveria578 You're welcome :)
What’s the heat mat for?
It increases the water temperature by a few degrees and by doing that it speeds up propagation 😊
@@MrHouseplant thank you so much for sharing!!❤️

What using heat mat purpose is here???
A heat mat speeds up propagation and increasing the chances of a cutting actually rooting instead of rotting :)
@@MrHouseplant ok didn't knew that. Thank you
@@kajalpatel_1487 You're very welcome Kajal :)
The same yellow pattern wont come
It will just be a normal green snake plant
Yes, that is correct. But if you take a small piece of the rhizome together with the leaf, you'll get the same plant. I just wanted to demonstrate the soil propagation method. Some people will just want to produce multiple cuttings even if they revert back to the all green version. And I didn't have an all-green version of the snake plant to demonstrate on it :)
Howany days is few days for you?
Hi Juan, if you're asking about how long to leave the cuttings to callous, leave them for 48 hours.
@@MrHouseplant thank you so much. I will try. God bless.
Do one on cannabis 😁
I did!! Whoop.
So dangerous
What is?
Is a heat mat necessary or should I invest in one?
It's not necessary, but it significantly increases the propagation speed and chances of success :)
Ok now what? Do you water it daily weekly?
aqua fina probably every 3/4 days. @Mr. Houseplant ?
What is your potting mix
Check out my video "How to make a potting mix". In this video I used a commercial potting mix and mixed it with sand. But I usually use perlite and bark
Mr. Houseplant what kind of sand do you use in your mix?
