Perfect position, Jordan! Now get a tripod. Glad the train cleared the grade crossing before stopping.
What is causing the Webster Street mee-mool lights *(o)T(o)* to activate twice after the train cleared the crossing?

This is an old school Union Pacific train #844. It was in the middle of Embarcadero Street in Oakland, California. It was pretty darn weird there. Are you kidding me?

Yup when I found out it was going to be here I jumped at the chance. Who knows if she'll ever come back here

I know people are in a hurry, but jeez, you have 400 tons of steel coming at you! Think, people!

Its kinda funny how a police car siren blooped at 3:08 and then the train's whistle immediately started blowing.

Does thew 844 always need a Helper engine attached to it or could it do the job all by itself?????

Not exactly sure how true it is (although I wouldn't doubt it too much), but apparently the FRA has issued a ruling for the UP that the 844 and the 3985 both need to have a diesel unit accompanying the steamer at all times in case it fails in route, and the diesel is there to help keep the consist moving to avoid snarling up traffic on the main. If 844 fails (which has happened many times) a diesel paired with it will get it off the main so the mechanical crew can take a look at her, and the dispatcher can keep trains moving without any additional problems. The diesel is also there for when the steamers are traveling through mountain territory, for additional assistance, and dynamic breaking. When not in mountain territory, 844 and 3985 can run solo.

I know excatley what you mean by that, cause I remember seeing that video where I dont remember if it was 884 or not, but it actually caught fire, but luckily the engineers were able to get the fire under control and the locomotive was able to continue on pretty much like nothing ever happened....

+Andrew Silva that was 3985 it was a grease fire. As much as they wan to run the steam locomotives alone, they need to have a diesel in case of problems. On this particular trip, the 844 did encounter boiler issues before it reached Stockton, CA and was pretty much disabled. But they did have this diesel switcher accompanying it for such a problem, and it was used to get the train into Stockton that day. One time, they even ran the 844 and the 3985 together for the Cheyenne Frontier Days train, and the 3985 was the one doing much of the work. Roughly half way to Cheyenne, she encounter boiler issues, and she had to be set out on a siding by a trio of SD40-2s they picked up along the way, and they stayed with the 844 for the remainder of the trip in case she had any issues also. So the diesels are necessary as the train's backup, to get the train moving and to not block any through traffic if the 844 or 3985 (as well as 4014 when she's operational) becomes disabled

@dasmikey1964= Yeah, if you get hit by the train, you'll damage this priceless locomotive.
