  • Electric motorcycles have inundated Cuba in recent years, as Cubans seek ways to move around without depending on gasoline. Cuba continues to suffer an energy crisis, exacerbated by U.S. sanctions.

There go those Cubans in their super-repressed society once again innovating something really cool that could really help the world.

You feel that you HAVE to say that the US is responsible for part of Cuba's economic and energy problems. But, do you not feel a responsibility to also say that the Cuban government is the MAJOR cause of the problem? If you are a real journalist. you cannot talk about a minor problem and ignore the biggest one. Otherwise, you are no more than a political mouthpiece.

How’s the Cuban government responsible for a 60 year embargo unilaterally imposed by the U.S.? Why do you think the United States maintain it’s Embargo? It’s not because of “democracy” or “freedom”, otherwise they would Embargo Saudi Arabia too. It’s stated in multiple U.S. Documents: Economical warfare, make the people suffer to try to overthrow a Government the U.S. does not like, and it does not matter if the Cuban population supports it(and U.S. own research suggests that a majority of the Cuban people still do), and it has only gotten worse since the end of the Cold War, because they knew the end of the Soviet block would make Cuba vulnerable. Do you even know how the embargo works? It’s not just the U.S. saying “I’m not gonna trade with you”, it’s the U.S. making the world choose between itself(the world’s largest economy) and a Island of 10 million people. It’s a direct attack against the sovereignty of the Nations and the right of a people to have self determination, two core concepts of the U.N. that the United States ignores every year, and that’s why 99% of the countries of the world vote for the end of it at the U.N. every year since 1992.
So yeah, It’s truly disingenuous to suggest that the economical situation in Cuba it’s the regime’s fault when the unilateral Embargo has the explicit reason of causing economical hardship. Between 1959-2015, it’s estimated that the embargo cost one trillion dollars for Cuba, but it’s not the U.S. fault? What a joke.
