I do love Mcintosh but Nord has the Hypex MP six channel (500 WPC) for just $1,800. The MP 250 watt 8 channel is also about $1,800. The top shelf NCx500 eight channel is about $4,200, the 3 channel x500 is a steal at just $1,500. The Mac is $5K with barely 200 watts across fewer channels, who wants to bridge when you can have the actual amp with enough power at any impedance- for 1/3 the price.
If you want to buy a McIntosh and talk about pricing, you’re simply not their target audience. They are never about value. Also just because two companies are using the same Hypex modules, the sound won’t be necessarily the same.
Nice to see that McIntosh recognizes people want lighter and that Class D sounds just as great. But the THD is .025% which is pretty good but not as good as my 2 channels Class D NAD C298 amplifier at .005% (or even my older amp Parasound 2125v2 at .0125% typical listening). ---- source=Apple Music lossless
The most importantly is the sound quality. SINAD and THD numbers mean nothing if you don’t like the sound. I had the NAD lent to me by my a client of mine. I never ended pasting the review because I didn’t like the way it sounded.
@mrpmj00 exactly. SINAD and THD of tube amps are also “garbage” in writing but people like them. Alternatively, Benchmark AHB2 power amp measures incredibly well but for my ears sounding far too sterile and soulless
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted I auditioned a Nagra tube amp but I thought it was too dark/warm. Different strokes for different folks. I much prefer solid state amps' highs. I also don't want any amp/component over 40 lbs, preferly
“Cheap” doesn’t mean “garbage”. And they are NOT cheap and the sound is objectively NOT garbage. At the end of the day, the most important thing is how the amp sounds.

@@DavidSusiloUnscripted Yep, ultimately it's my ears that tell me to keep it or return it.
