We buy at the farmer's market. Our meats generally come from local farms. Not only are we healthier, we are supporting a "small is beautiful" economy. We have hardly any trash for the landfill.

Farmers market has been proven to be an overprice marketing ploy. Many seller at farmers market actually selling factory farming food and up sell you. Also they are selling you some of the rejects from that factory farm and selling you for a premium price. It’s the same kind of stuff at the discounted groceries store or even small ma and pa Asian stores that sell at a cheap price. To make sure you buy from local farms you have to make sure the seller provide you detail information. But farmers market is expensive and manipulating since people assume they are fresh and locally sourced.

Not spending money on these things actually helps the economy long term! By not spending money on gas station potato chips, you can invest that money in companies that build new homes, create new technologies, or research cures for diseases.

yes, businesses that do not provide service that uplift the society, do not need our money, and hopefully go out of business. Just like how the banks in 2008 got the TARP bailout from the gov't. They should have been allowed to fail and close shop.

I am in full agreement with outlet stores, or even second hand stores. I've had good luck with high end stores, and buying the clearance or sale items.

I've been completely sober for 9 years and honestly it's been great in so many ways. But REALLY... the best part is the wallet savings lol. All my friends talking about what new craft microbrew they got. All I think is "you spent HOW much for a beer?"
I've actually never quite did the math, but for 9 years, if i would've spent $10/week on booze, which seems conservative. That's almost 5 grand of savings O_O

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  6 років тому +1

I never realized how bad alcohol is for you. Knowing what I know now, I would have tried to convince my younger self to not drink as much. They really do not give enough health warnings for something so widely available as long as you are old enough.

  • @praggypopsqa4652

I buy selectively. I save for what I really want which usually costs more. So, I'll spend a few hundred on electronics, before I'd buy new shoes or home decor, which doesn't have a strong *BTB score.* Also, I buy expensive, comfortable shoes and where them for ever - as in ten years.

  • @gsilverstone

I hear you about the gas stations. I work at one and I haven't been very smart about bringing my own food. I work during dinner time and I'm always eating something there when I work. When I added up what I spend on a monthly basis just to work is scary.

  • @Aubreykun

I usually don't shop for clothes at outlet stores (I prefer thrift stores or online) but one I frequent gets small amounts of last-season's designer brand "leftovers", selling them at 1/3rd off sticker (and even less on clearance). True outlet stores I find to be best for discounted higher end kitchen, bed and bath items that you would generally not want used (such as cutting boards, spices, sheets and towels) or simple discounts on things that rarely are - IE high end cookware.
True dollar stores also get leftovers, and I have seen name brand tools and other items at them for well below cost, as well as canned and jarred foods that are near or slightly past the "Best by" date while still being perfectly fine to eat.

  • @ModernMinimalistMom

I'm not a fan of outlet stores at all. They're super scammy since they sell inferior quality clothes, but make you think it's the same stuff in regular stores. There are only a few ACTUAL outlet stores. Lululemon is one of them. I much prefer to just buy things on sale or clearance and combine with credit card cash back and Ebates cash back.

Your mileage will vary at outlet stores. We would get things straight from the vendor which might be made specifically for the outlet or sometimes we would have to cut off the department stores tags before we sold it.

I have noticed at discount stores a trick they use is to have most things cheap but then every 7th item or so they have an item that is outrageously expensive. It is almost like the store will know that you will just go ahead and buy it because it is conveniently located on the shelf. Sometimes it is batteries or a gift bag for example. Though some stores especially drug stores here in the Midwest every product is about double the price of what is in a discount store. Not sure what to do about this except really know what your price is for various products and know what constitutes a good deal. Just don't fill up the cart.

In many places in the south (I live in Oklahoma) those big liquor stores are basically the only places you can find alcohol that isn't beer. I deal with it by not drinking much (it's an expensive habit to have!) but yeah there are laws prohibiting regular stores from selling certain strength alcohol in many southern states.

    Hey BTB,
Another good advise video. Cutting corner's is never easy.
One viewer down below, got it right. We have a .99cents
Only store, for chips/drinks, that's a good savings right there.
I don't drink liqour too much either. That's another savings.
I don't make food dishes all the time, requiring the mushrooms
You mentioned. So, I'm good in that.department. Will the stuffed
Animal collection you display, be sort of a savings, as opposed
To live animals? You don't have the expense of spending money
To feed them? And when you need a hug, they're there and satisfy
That urge? Peace out! Stay Well/Stay Informed. You're awfully unique.

I totally agreed with your attitude toward buying things. The economy won't collapse if you stop buying soda and chips. Many said they couldn't afford fresh organic foods but they buy junk foods all the time. If you cut spending on junk foods, you can spend money on premium foods and clothing that last much longer.
I used to buy $40-$50 work boots from Walmart. They broke in less than 2 years. Some even broke in 1 year. I decided to pay over $150 hi-quality boots (still Chinese made though) but they last over 4 years going to 5th.
The capitalistic economy is to get you addicted in some ways so you keep buying junks. Marketers always try to get your emotion to buy things. Always take a deep breath and walk away when you see something appealing in front of your eyes. Pretty things don't often last long and practical. Find out if things are practical and useful.
Never buy what you want. Buy what you need.

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  6 років тому

There is a certain level of money I still need to buy to survive. It is not like I am making my own clothes and growing my own rice, lol. But then overall total spending might be lower for the economy as a whole if everyone spent like I did.

I read that California’s quality of life is the worst in the country. Since homes are so expensive in the Bay area, and you can do your work from anywhere, how about moving to a cheaper (and better) place to live, and rent out or sell your current place?

There really aren't very many places that have the same weather and natural beauty as California. In the US you could move to the Carolinas and have similar temperatures, but you have to deal with much bigger storms and even major hurricanes from time to time.
There's a reason why it costs so much to live in Cali, and it's not JUST because of the hippy-dippy political leadership (though they are a big part of the problem). There's just a ton of demand to live in such a beautiful and temperate place.
Maybe he could move to Europe and live some place on the Mediterranean Sea, but I suspect he doesn't have many friends or family there.

Try this for your cashew milk recipe. I find it tastes similar to regular milk, but better!
-Soak 1 cup of raw cashews for 6 to 10 hours
-drain and rinse nuts and put in blender
    -add 2.5 cups water
    -add 1 tsp vanilla extract
    -add 1 Tbsp of honey
-add a pinch or two of salt
-blend for 30 to 60 seconds (if u have a powerful blender, u won't need to strain it)
-it'll be a bit airy right out of the blender so u can let it sit for a bit for a thicker consistency
Super easy! Let me know what u think!

I'll try it again soaking it to see if the flavor changes much. Not too into adding other things in it though.

twicepast7 - No way. Buy good shoes, sturdy luggage and high quality pots and pans. If you have children, you'll need good quality furniture that stands up to wear and tear and cleans up easily.
