A comic strip artist ( Allyn Joslyn) and his wife ( Evelyn Keyes) investigate a murder after being at a banquet honoring war refugees! The case takes a comic twist and turns before the whole thing is solved at the end of the flick! Mr Joslyn and Ms Keyes try to be like William Powell and Myra Loy-but they’re close -and Edgar Buchanan, Nina Foch, and shemp Howard and the others round out the cast in this comedy-mystery! Good one! ☝️ 🤣🤣🤣😳👀👍👁️❤️😃
This Joslyn, Evelyn Crime Dou kicks movie is better then the first one i witch, thanks Classic Robb's for putting them out and will look for more,11-23-23.
ONe of the commercial breaks during this movie was for a new type of wall covering in place of sheet rock. The guy pitching the product, his name =no kidding - was Bäumler, and that's on the level.
Allyn Joslyn was known better as a comedic actor rather than a lead and Evelyn "dude....where's my car" Keyes is lovely....but this little gem, while fun, is off-note and hard to even make-believe.
Witty dialogue from all the cast, not just the main characters, women who are equally represented, not marginalized to the love or lust interest! So refreshing and fun!
Hilarious, one of my best friends looked and talked just like Shemp Howard. What's crazy is he was one of 9 children and his Mom and Dad all of them looked and talked like Shemp. Only the oldest sister did not. And she completly avoided them . Was the only kid of the 9 to graduate H.S. but she was no fun to hang out with. Go figure.
Another kicks mystery with these 2 husband and wife mystery solvers, hope to find more with them in it and riding a cool Cushman motor scooter, that short roadster car maybe make it into the first midget lowrider, and her with her deadly father hat , love it, thanks UA-cam
Strange that "Classic Robb" neglected to inform you that Evelyn Keyes only made two husband and wife mystery solver movies with Allyn Joslyn... Perhaps he actually just doesn't know!?
They're playing diff named characters than in the other movie I just watched them. They had a machine like that in 1944, where his wife could leave him a voice message? Wow!!
Such a lovely spoof. Keyes is a tigress for her man, and there is no stopping her. If all American women were built that way, divorce would be a rarity.
As a regular watcher of old Hollywood, I have to say I find it difficult to appreciate comedies from this period. Evelyn Keyes was a fine actress, but that didn't stop me giving up on this film... Next...
You might like this, but me, not so much, except for the last few minutes when Evelyn Keys fights off three policemen, and a detective, Here's the problem. Keyes doesn't have a good sense of comic timing. Allyn Joslyn, who plays the husband, is brilliant as a comedic actor, his timing is often perfection. It makes Keyes pale by comparison. Actually I like Keyes a lot as an actress, it's just that she really doesn't work too well in this. The writers have given her has some good comic props that help, the hat with the long feather and the silly little car which makes me think of Jaques Tati who always makes me laugh. She wiggles and moves too much in this film which is cute but not funny. She is an actress usually in control but, I suspect she thought wiggling was funny. A bit of restraint would have helped.
None Yun, "Bill's tiny car is a 1931 American Austin roadster, manufactured in Butler, Pennsylvania. The original base price was $395 ($6,815 in 2021). It got 40 miles per gallon with its 747cc 4-cylinder engine and had a top speed of 50 miles per hour. Only about 8,000 of these cars were made as it was during the depths of the Depression and one could get much more car - and a faster one - for only $100 more from Ford. Manufacturing of this car ceased in 1932." imbd trivia
The opening scene was played for laughs, but I fail to see the humor. A driver hitting a stationary object like a parked car, and nearly taking a guy's head off while driving around with the liftgate extended, is a firing offense. The number of safety rules being broken would leave the laundry service with no defense whatsoever if that had gone to court.
These people are obsessed with clothes and appearances. Even a shirt with a spilled cocktail on it is a crisis. Everything in this is superficial. Except for the nice two-seat car.
the last 15 minutes were just Stupid, capital S. and all the preceding minutes were not much better. cute and kind of funny from time to time. mostly not. i like evelyn keyes generally, but not when she's playing a nitwit. and allyn joslyn is always amusing, even in this one, most of the time,
