I tested a 695 RIVALE, great looks, and a 595 Competizione, really wanted one of these cars but just couldn’t get on with driving position/ bouncy suspension/ no 6th gear/ - tested a cooper s sport today, so much better, more power in low revs , nice interior, seems more grown up - ( like me - a pensioner lol) pity they don’t sound like the Abarth. Going to order one tomorrow, with sunroof/JCW seats/ adaptive suspension. Just hope it’s more reliable than previous models. Do they have a engine temp gauge? Can’t seem to see one ! Thanks. - great review by the way.
login1226 oh good to hear - enjoy ordering your new car! I’ve never noticed a temp gauge but you may be able to configure it - wasn’t to vital for me ☺️ thanks, enjoy your new car
Clemente Gallì I would love to get my hands on both versions of each to give a proper review! I do think the Abarth would be great fun as a manual! Nice choice!
Man both of those cars look so nice! I love the gray color. I would say that I like the Mini the best but if both of these cars were at a dealership I would come out with the Abarth. It's just much cheaper and still alot of fun. If you are looking for an inexpensive fun hatch the Abarth is better.
@@MMAFan20 I have to disagree. I may be a bit biased since I own an Abarth but I don't really like the look of the mini, it't a bit too round and it doesn't pull the double color off. Also as a non-brit I find the rear lights pretentious. That said the mini has the upper hand in the performance department so if you like the looks then it's a great car.
@@andreabotti99 pretentious? you out of your mind? americans wave their flag in everyone's face all the time. At least the brit's flag is pretty cool, also paying the "euro-car taxe" at least im happy it has it, they look good too.
I have a f56 in very similar spec to yours. mine Comes with adaptive dampers too. But no pro exhaust...... Yet! Tax is 160. The jcw is screaming out off better tyres, mine are like new but they squeal like a pig when driven hard. Ps4 will be their replacements. Thanks for the video. BTW mine was specced real nice and the original owner paid 31k. They had it 3 years and only did 5k miles total.
kona328WH oh nice - aha brilliant, the exhaust is a must! Oh okay, I couldn’t remember - thanks! Agreed, looking back on it, I should have replaced them with standard tyres!
The price gap i would add a tune to the Abarth and brakes and Manuel then should be fine should pop more too if u want. Wonder difference on a track lol
You didn't say anything about ride quality. I bought a mk7 Golf R last year, and for quite a few reasons, I returned it pretty quickly. The ride, even with the DCC option, wasn't great. So it's very much a factor that'll come into my next hot hatch decision.
I have a Abarth 595 and I have to say that it is insanely fun to drive ! The feeling is « raw », sporty, you feel like you are driving faster than you actually do. In Sport mode it just asks to push the pedal, feels like a karting / rally car in forest roads. Very fun ! The steering in sport mode gets stiffer and is very responsive, I think my next car will be another Abarth !
This love of carbon fibre, I don't get it. I wikied it, and see that its advantages are "high stiffness, high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance and low thermal expansion". Used for trim on car interiors, none of these factors are of any advantage - except that presumably it won't fade over the decades. To most people, carbon fibre is just another hard plastic inside the car.
Can you list the things a need ,and where if possible, too convert boot same as you have in Ur abarth , thx would be much appreciated it's ideal And have too say the garrart turbo is a great turbo and goes great with a bluespark , feels like a remapped car the Monza exuast speaks for itself and the mini sounds like someone getting strangled 📯 both look great
Hi Simon - I went to a company called ‘Boot Buddy’ for the plastic compartment in the back. They built the partition, which clips together, and created a clear screen so the dog can see through the centre. For this, I did remove the back seats to allow for additional space - hope that helps!
Why test drive an auto hot hatch ? - that’s why no point buying a Polo GTI - and the horrendous tartan seats. Anyway the brakes feel spongy on the Abarth because you’re trying to slow down an auto box. Ask any BMW or Merc owner how many brake pads they get through!
login1226 well they’re more and more popular now! Some want the ease of an auto, in a small car, but still want good performance! Also, that’s the perfect thing with what’s available in the new and used market, you can have whatever you want :)
Mountain Lord well from an insurance point of view, I’m really not sure as I haven’t done that research - the Abarth will be more sporty / quicker than a normal cooper but the Mini might be cheaper to run than an Abarth, I’ve not actually compared the two. Depends on what you’d like from your first car! Both would be brilliant
I would love to own a Mini, but because the lack of reliability keeps it from happening. The Arbath could be one of the most fun cars to drive! But again, Fiat... IDK.
Mini cooper, here in the USA these are dirt cheap, they all suffer from carbon buildup on the intake valves, most BMW-Mini dealers here charge about 5 grand to try and de carbonize the valves, and or replace oil rings. BMW, you need a code reader with you at all times here.
If I’m honest, I’d not heard of Carlo Abarth but I’ve just seen an advert for the 595 pronouncing it as Abart - I am learning something about this car everyday!

Richard Chacon I think your in the wrong generation... Gen 2 MINI’s suffer from coking. Gen 3’s featured in the this video don’t....
