Watched this video about 2-3 weeks ago, left the platform and immediately ordered this light. Took it to a wedding last weekend and it LITERALLY saved our BUTT! It was farrrrr too dark out there and if we had gone to the wedding without external lighting, we would’ve been issuing a refund 😳😟 We considered not taking any lighting because we already had so much gear to check at the airport and most times we get by. Something told me I needed this light. Ah! Thank you so much for this review.
Just bought it 2 weeks ago, love it. Small compact yet powerful, For the barndoor solution need to use the bowen mount adapter. another thing need to buy the v-mount adapter as the kit place the battery quite high , abit imbalance unless you are using heavy sturdy light stand.
I'm using mostly 55w lights for these events, and found that I'm generally hitting 60-70% power, but that is because they are mini-fresnel units (CAME-TV Boltzen Q55II). The benefit is in the longer run time and the capability to run on cheap NPF batteries in a pinch. You didn't mention that not all USB battery packs are capable of supplying the 100w power delivery, so it's V-Mount, or the newer/beefier USB-C PD power packs. Thankfully, both have really dropped in price. I've also got the SmallRig RC60b, but since it lacks a remote, I don't use it for weddings (such a bad oversight on their part). We're lucky to have so many affordable options nowadays, with more released almost every few months.
Been using Amaran 60x's for weddings. I'm going to upgrade to these instead. Bonus, I can probably get twice as many in my bag in the same space as the Amarans.
How long does it work with the mount? 30 minutes? 60 minutes? At maybe 50% brightness and 100 %?. I have the ml 60 bis and love them. For the barn doors maybe someone can 3d print them? If it don’t gets hot
Thank you for the review. Does the on/off button on ML100 works the same way as SL lamps? E.g. if I set this on on, and unplug it from electricity and then plug it again, will it needs me to turn it on again or it stays on?
@@HowToFilmWed Thank you very much for confirming this. When it turns off, does it turn back on automatically if I plug it back in or I need to press the button?
I use the Nanlite forza 60 COB with the Fresnel with barn doors to focus the light. Works! I get new gear is coming out all the time, but this setup is pretty small and gets the job done. I use two on the speaker. Sometimes, I may add a warm panel light behind the speaker for effect. All run off NP sony batteries. So what am I gaining here with this light? I am all ears?
Is there any way to power up this light with multi NP-F batteries to make it portable without the V mount? I am looking for an adapter. I am not sure if ML60 battery grip will help? any one tried?
@@JonathanPajakLensCulture Also, you can slap a Bowens mount adapter on here and do whatever you want. For really poorly light weddings, I like to use lanterns on my lights to just bring up the overall ambience of the space.
That I cannot answer for sure… but I will say I ran the light at less than 50% with my 95Wh battery for over 2 hours and still had a 50% charge on my battery.

This is incredible! So glad it helped you
Thanks for your review! Just purchased because of you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thank John for this INFORMATIVE video. I love it when you state that you bought this light with your own money.

What exactly should I be looking for with the Bowen mount?
@@HowToFilmWed universal, can reuse older bowen mount barndoor
what would be your update 3 weeks later you left this comment? (thinking of getting this light). Thanks!
Really well explained, thank you very much! I am subscribing.

Why nobody compare ml100bi vs ml60bi ii?
Send me one and I'll review them it!
wish they can do one RGBWW version of something similar ... the neewer ms150c looks really nice , but it cant be powered off of a power bank

Yeah you can!
Wow and all that for half the price of my 60x 😭 great video, I think I will be picking one up!
It's a great little light! Let me know your thoughts if you pick it up!

This light does not have an internal battery to hold a charge. So, if it is unplugged it will turn off.

looking forward to this, once I sell my 60x ...

Can I use a Godox ml100bi as a key light (versatility, portability & price; under $200)? Or is there a better budget option such as Godox SL60iiD?
I think for the price, brightness and size the ml100 is the best budget friendly option on the market
So I got the basic kit. Do you know where I can get the bowen to godox mount adapter? Can’t find anything on Amazon
I would like to see footage and or pictures of how it actually performs in a poorly lit reception.
The few shots at the beginning from a wedding were with this light.

You can power the lights via USB-C. They do make NP-F batteries that have a USB out on them - that could work?
@godox Please include the bowens godox mount adapter !!!!!!!!
They have one. It comes with the kit.
@@todddammit4628 the one I got didn’t come with it, but I got the mount now. Thanks
@@Frimpeezzymines came with one they probably forgot it
hmmmm but no variable flood or spot is a tough sell though, cause some receptions spaces have limitations.
The light I ordered also came with a 35 degree lens - which is more of a flood.
@@HowToFilmWed oh okay thats very useful, i mean the size is sooooo nice

What’s the battery life look like on this (running at 100% consistently to make this simple)?
That I cannot answer for sure… but I will say I ran the light at less than 50% with my 95Wh battery for over 2 hours and still had a 50% charge on my battery.
do they have this in black?
I don’t think so
What kind of run time are you getting with the v mount?
I had this hooked up to a 95Wh v mount at less than 50% power for over 2 hours and the battery still had 50% charge.
I was just looking into smaller lights like the Colbor 100W lights, but they have the same issue with no barn doors. The Aputures are just too bulky.
I want to see if there is a way to attach barn doors - this could be a cool DIY project!
✌...
@aputure @amaran hope you're paying attention to the company stealing your lunch.
Yeah, I’ve had my eye on this one. I like the new setup Nick. 🤌🏼
Thanks, buddy!
