- James Webb Space Telescope Mission Update: At 2 p.m. EST on January 24, Webb's thrusters were fired by ground operators for the L2 orbit insertion. James Webb has completed the burn and has been successfully placed in orbit around the L2 Lagrange point. With this, all the 344 single-point-failure items have retired.
James Webb Space Telescope was launched on Christmas Day 2021 aboard an Ariane 5 rocket from French Guiana. On its million-mile trip to the L2 point, Webb completed the deployment of its sunshield, primary mirror, secondary mirror, and mirror adjustments. Webb will now calibrate its instruments and cool down further to make IR observations. The telescope parts that observe the sky will be at -233 ºC or 40 K. However, one of the instruments (MIRI) will cool down to 6.7 kelvins.

What is the first thing you would point the James Webb Space Telescope at if given a chance?
A beautiful nebula ✨
I would embrace time and space with divine love and whisper in God's ear that we are closer to Him !!!
That object in our solar system that is supposedly the 9th planet. They compared data sets from 50 years ago... and something is there... and it moved over those 50 years.
@@PhoenixWoody that’s epic
@@PhoenixWoody Artificial alien made massive object? :)
Congratulations to the entire mission staff. You may now exhale and smile.
Not Yet, camera configuration should be completed yet
@@swiftyedz that's the "easy" part
@@breezy6912 They said the same thing about Hubble and yet it wasn’t in focus we are still going to hold our breath
@@THEDARKNIGHT8657 they took care of that. All mirrors can adjust individually, so even if one fails (knock on wood) we still get the most powerful telescope in space. Hubble couldn't really adjust at all. Great tech.
are you kidding me? whos gonna process the results from the telescope?, you get data, then the real science starts, mathematics and all that.
I cannot wait for the first image! It will mark a new milestone in space exploration.
Indeed!
I never thought it would work... Just amazed.

the day we find extraterrestrial life
@@KateD3V - Probably won't find confirmed alien life within our lifetimes.
Might detect life biosignatures in planetary atmospheres beyond our solar system using the JWST. But, there won't be any pictures of alien life.
I have watched multiple JWST videos, this was the first one to elaborate on the various LaGrange points, found it very interesting. NASA made an announcement last week they anticipate there to be enough fuel for the mission to last 20 years.
Right on!!
Watch the interview about JWST on world science Festival channel. That's the most knowledgeable, elaborative and well presented video about this telescope i have ever seen.

Just imagine fuel for 20 years seriously 😳

I am so proud of this team it shows the amazing work humans can achieve when we work together.
The desire of being inquisitive , the beauty of science and the power of the human mind ... Truely amazing
Well done to all the team
Well said!
Love this!
Congratulation to all JWST team you have done a great job and write a history to learn and see the cosmos more detail, bravo
"Although Webb has undergone several burns during its journey" -
I can feel you Webb.
To see what the Webb Engineers have accomplished here makes me very very humble. All my pride in being an engineer myself is gone when I see the precision of building this engine, and more than this, to calculate its behavior in extremely cold space makes me feel like a Ground-schooler that´s happy to have found the solution of 2+2...To think: Nasa Employee, I am an Engineer, and you are an Engineer, has become obsolete. This is really the masterclass of science!
I'm a grade-schooler too!
I am in awe of this endeavor and so grateful to all those explorers who dare to dream of taking on such a challenge. To explore the origins and fundamental nature of our universe is engrained in our DNA. We exist to comprehend our meaning. What a remarkable feat of engineering and perseverance. Thank you to all those scientists and engineers! Bravo!
Really love this music. Sounds like a cross of Da Vinci Code and Inception endings. Great stuff!

Magnificent engineering, I'm really looking forward as to what it discovers
VERY WELL DONE JWST TEAM!!!
You may all let go that big breath you took until today. I know I feel quite comfortable now that the beast is out there.
Big slap on your combined backs guys. Well done. 😊🥰😊
Thank God!! Congratulations to everyone who were involved in this🔥..now I'm even more excited to see the 1st ever image captured by it
Congratulations to NASA, ESA & CSA for this achievement. 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Great going James Webb team, congratulations your efforts and our prayers have accomplished this great flawless launch and L2 parking, looking forward to seeing the images which will take astronomy to new heights, wishing you long healthy life James Webb.
There's not enough room in these comments to convey my thanks to the JWST Team. Well Done!
I was starving to hear that good and finally they did it!.. omg... Let's pray for a wonderful mission... Well done!!!

Congratulations NASA, ESA, CSA ❤️
actually only a small percentage of people are violent.... its just that the news likes talking negative all the time.
Violence is not the problem. In fact, it's one of the main drives of our technological developments.
The problem is .. “Although we are so good at working together as a species, we can’t do anything well without a leader or an organizer.”
So, we assign that small percentage of people as leaders, and we give them power and control over us.
A leader of one group doesn’t have power or control over the other group.
That’s how we separate ourselves into little groups, creat differences and make ‘everyone working together’ impossible.
Yes, there are now collaborations and joint projects among little groups, but none of them are as effective as war.
We would be living on the moon or mars by now if environMENTALists hadn't slowed down technological advancements talking about "muh trees" and "muh air". Glaciers melting turns into "Global Warming". Glaciers freezing turns into "Global Warming". They do or say anything and people believe it and new laws, regulations, and government agencies get made and completely stops or slows progress. Takes months to even get a chance to test launch a new space shuttle
@@altonb93 "muh air" Seems pretty important if you ask me.
As are the coastline cities that house most of the population, which would very quickly be put underwater should sea levels continue to rise.
We need to continue to make progress, but we can't destroy ourselves in the process of doing so.
@@altonb93 ignorance is strong in you
Perfect;-) I'm really glad to live in Webb time when we would receive many news from "above".
Congratulations to JWST team, you guys have done great job! Can’t wait to see the first image!!!
When great minds work together to better the knowledge of mankind. It is truely AWESOME to see what CAN be achieved.Roll on June / July when the pictures start comming in
I mean the amount of work and incredible engineering to make this happen without a hitch and get it to exactly where it needs to be, is astronomical in itself. Imagine the images this telescope will take can't wait...
Another conspiracy theory .
im so proud of all the staff, engineer that made this possible! we’ll reach our peak in space exploration soon!
CONGRATS to the team of JWST!
Fascinating. I agree with another comment - the elaboration of Lagrange points was extremely useful, something not many other sources have cared for detail. Understand them much better now.
I’m so excited for this! Been waiting since 2014/15 when I first heard about the JW. Congratulations to the team for their amazing work!
0:23 no, there weren't 344 ways in which orbital insertion could have failed, there were 344 mechanical devices on the spacecraft that were single points of failure. Nothing to do with orbital insertion.
2:12 no, the Sun, Earth and Moon are kept behind the sunshield because their heat would interfere with observations.
4:09 the current estimate is that JWST has enough fuel for 20 years of operations.
20 years of operation translates to 1/2 Billion USD per year. The Telescope cost 10 Billion USD!
@@gartwilliams3347 Operating cost for 5 years was budgeted at $861 million. An additional 15 years would likely add 3X that ($2.5 billion) to the 20 year overall cost.
This is trult miraculous. Well done to the team. They makes us as humans proud❤❤❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What lies ahead in the near future for the JWST as far as what we are going to discover will be nothing short of astonishing I think about this every day since it’s launch! Many Nobel Prizes will be awarded from the discovery’s that will be made in the near future let’s all pray this goes smoothly!
Congratulations to the James Webb Team for establishing the L2 position. Job well done!

YES!!! Time to open champaigne!!! I like how people, at least on this channel, realize that what's going on is unprecedented. After so many decades waiting, its finally here. Now we need to wait till JWST cool down to operational temperature, and made all the necessary mirror corrections...
Just incredible what a monumental task it was to make this happen. And it worked! Such a relief.

congratulations to everyone... people dont realise the importanceof the l2 burn and insertion.... miss it.... and it will just fly out to space.
So many things have been groundbreaking about this past 30 days... perfect launch, all the single point possible failures, were flawless, its not its its l2 orbit.... and will almost certainly last well over 10 years.
Heres hoping the micro switches etc all work perfectly at cryo temps. The alignment too :)
Chill dear ( JWST) now u have to cool down to your operational temperature, and set your mirror alignment. Say hello to the universe and we are all waiting here for your first cry (first image) baby. Take care long live. Congratulations to the JWST team from INDIANS and thank you so much guys.
dont forget the micro shutters have to work.... theyhad to invent them
When I was 15 I remember my english teacher telling the class that we had been born at just the right age to see space exploration and he was jealous and wishes he was part of our generation. Now that isn't true, we are yet to explore space or even reach another planet. The JWST however I find very exciting. In my lifetime we will see back almost to the beginning of time, and that is something my teacher likely never dreamed of, that 40 years later our class of scrawny teenages would some day have the opportunity to look back 13.5 billion years. Exciting times, this is what humans are capable of if we spend a tiny proportion of our effort on real science, real exploration.
Thank you 🙏
'Thou silent form '(& what thou revealest will undoubtedly) 'tease us out of thought. As doth Eternity...' All this and in my lifetime? Amazing!
