Chee Soon Juan is truly Singaporean. What he has said is honest, upright, moral and basically the truth. He threads the middle ground and is reasonable. We should have him in Parliament. The PAP is stale; govern through fear mongering; lacking ideas and using their strength in Parliament to do the party's bidding. This is a great interview.

@@scbchong6964 Nor do your comments justify the actions of the PAP.
Who are you to determine if Jade or Chee has not done anything to help the poor and disabled in Singapore?
      Have you:
      (1) Made a thorough investigation into their lives? Many people do plenty in their private lives and do not publicise what they do. They are also not accountable to you as they are not in public service.
      (2) Compared the salaries of the PAP ministers with those of Jade and Chee?
      (3) Why would anyone compare someone who is in the field of public service with citizens whose jobs are not the same and are not paid for it?

I remember roughly 10 years back WP mentioned a program very similar to the past 2 year's built back stronger policies and also the WSG schema. What I roughly rmb was WP's white paper suggested a 6 months assurance package to help retrenched workers to have a certain amount of payout + career support. Their suggestion was a suggestion to compliment the upgrading programs which singapore was already running back then.
The payment for such a package is like insurance deduction but from the paychecks directly. So if you work fulltime you're automatically enrolled.
What I think i still rmbed was that the progressive wage schemes back then were not yet in place and the idea of providing safety net for those retrenched was also almost non-existent.
That's all I rmb, saying these in respond to Jade's comment that WP did not suggest for retrenchment packages.

in my view PAP need to be more transparent as they are among the top 5 govt in the world. More explanation should be done to citizens on how they craft their policies, not just POFMA but their economic right wing policies, amt of reserves and usage of reserves, about why the need to import foreigners endlessly, the need to tax and using CPF to collect back more SGD to the central bank is just to strengthen currency? Opposition parties are formed due to PAP's secrecy. If they could explain then opposition would not have exist easily.

After listening to nearly one hour of the interview, I still don't understand what he is trying to achieve for Singapore? How are we going to get there? And by there, I mean where?
He painted a somewhat vague, contradictory and lofty ideals of a "liberal society" which doesn't quite sit well.
One moment talking about the negative effects of being too materialistic, how life is not about the big bucks, comparing auntie sweeping the floor vs banker sitting at pinnacle of the building.
The next moment talking about his conversation with a billionaire, how Singapore lacks the entrepreneurial climate, how the stifling culture is unable to produce the likes of steve jobs, jk rowling etc.
So how do you reconcile the need to be innovative, break new grounds, advancing and making progress for society without the negative consequences of materialism?
A good storyteller or academic scholar at best, but if he is being thrust into the position of a policy maker, I have my doubts.

You are talking about a country Leh.. fail again.. Singapore will not rise again, coz the world has changed.. how many entrepreneurs succeed.. there is a lot of lose.
Dr Chee, was short of saying that "things are currently good" 33:27.. then change to fearful of the unknown. .. For people now, I think, people are not voting out of fear, but rather voting the safeguard what they have. If our current govt cannot protect what we have today or move ahead, you will see the current govt being voted out...

If u are just contented and satisfied with safeguard, it's pretty obvious u are not progressing and improving... U are regressing indeed and instead
It's likened to u telling me putting your money in a Milo tin or in your savings account is damn safe, when in fact u are losing money to past inflation and recent enhanced inflationary pressures
Quite apparent Temasek has failed to safeguard our investments with their recent failed ventures in Grab, FTX and Zilingo etc... People like u are the ones who cause the nation to regress or come to a standstill

Just wish to point out one point on POFMA from Chee. Please do not blur the line between YOU and fellow Singaporeans. You are a POLITICIAN and no doubt about this, you don't have total freedom in your speech and that ALL the things you say to public must come with truth than alternative facts created or reference from alternative narrow news media or statistics whatsoever. Versus me common citizen where i share my view like this i say Chee a politician is actually indian. Politicians have audiences and people take in your views and mine differently. All in all, broadly speaking in singapore's context, with a super high standard govt, it makes oppposition harder to find fault points in their policies, but mostly just tweaking left and right, to do better here and there. There is literally little chance you can call out a total rogue policy you can totally oppose like in the 50s. If you are a responsible politicians, you don't tear the trust, but build trust. Singapore have too much to lose today to vote on the wrong basis "to send voices in parliament", soon such basis will displace an efficient govt for the wrong reason. That will be so so crazy.

Imagine you hire a building contractor and they do a shoddy job. You "criticize" their work and the contractor asks you: "Can you do a better job? If not, you should shut up."
Now imagine if you hired the most expensive contractor in the world and they responded thusly to you.
This applies to every job you hire someone to do.
Can you cook as well as the chef you've hired? Can you paint as well as the painter you've commissioned? Can you write as well as the author who wrote a book you've bought?
Using this retort, anyone can claim to be the best in their field with no accountability.

Granted he might have been wrongly oppressed in the past, one do wonder if he's fighting for the sake of fighting because of that oppression. Some of his views also felt a little outdated with examples quoted from far back. Great to have Jade to balance views - particularly the debates on POFMA.
