    When working a front headlock against a stronger guy have you ever considered switching to a wrestling style front headlock? One hand on chin, shoulder of same hand pressed into spine, and with the other hand controlling the back of that hands same side elbow? Able to really pressure the head down when knees are off ground, and enables very strong cow catch/roll opposite way if they resist it when done this way. Make sure elbow of chin hand stays high to avoid an arm drag, as well as it creates a better lever for your shoulder to apply pressure downward. Would love to hear your input on what you think and especially would love to hear if you think this is non optimal.

    Question for a mounted guillotine:
    Do you advise having your hips at same level as opponents neck for a better squeeze?
    Your guillotine choke vid helped me immensely and inspired me to restrict myself to do only front headlock attacks for now, but i still struggling with eith finishing the guillotine from mount.
    Thanks in advance! 😀

    • @TylerSpangler
      @TylerSpangler  2 роки тому +14

      I typically like to vine my legs around theirs. You get more power if your hips are up there, but if they’re bigger, which is common for me, they will roll you into guard. If I don’t vine around their legs, I can’t stop them from rolling me.

    A UFC gym? I've never been in one of those. I went to sityodtong in Somerville, when they put one of those up in Boston.

    Any reason why ur not big on back control when most practitioners aim to get to that position? Does it have to do with you being a gtine specialist?

      I realize I just kind of suck at it. It’s tough for me to get rear naked chokes when people are so defensive. If I can put them in front head they’re a lot more open

    Was your knee injury in a video I missed? I saw you briefly mention it a few weeks back but I must have missed the video where it happened or you go into more detail about it?

      @@TylerSpangler I guess if you're still able to train that it wasn't too destructive... thank goodness, knee injuries can be a mfer to deal with. Had one myself for a few months, must have been a partial tear or a damn good strain on the LCL. I had to sit out of the chance to roll against Andrew Wiltse when he came to the gym because of it 😒

      @@TylerSpangler now you got me worried lol. What do you do if someone tries a scissor takedown on you? Is there a way to bail out of it or take the fall so you don't hurt your knee?

    Do you have specific instructionals or videos on your front headlock system? I end up there a ton and have never been great on back takes but seem to often be in position to take advantage of guillotines and darces. Would love to see more on this from you if you have it.
