I live Dagurs character so much and I'm so happy that he didn't actually die. I love how when Dagur became a dragon rider, he and hiccup both started calling each other brother. When Dagur had to fund his dead father, Hiccup was there for him, and when Toothless got hit by the arrow Dagur helped him and Hiccup. Also he got shot by an arrow to save Hiccup, so I LOVE Dagur's character and how he has actual character development 💜
I know I commented already, but I needed to comment again and say Dagur calls Dagur brother in searching for Oswald and Chicken when he's telling Hiccup if he ever needs help on any other crazy mission Hiccup can count on him. I also needed to say you have no idea how much I love this video and It makes my love for the Dagur Hiccup relationship so much greater!
Plasma Snow thank you! I swear I watched season 5 inside and out trying to figure out if Dagur ever called him brother and it was only after I made this that I found when he does. Maybe I'll update it someday with those times!
It's 2018 in February and I'm back commenting for the first time. This made me cry because race to the edge ended in the 16th which means no more hiccup and dagur moments other than in fanfictions! 😭😭😭😭 And yeah, I still come back to watch your videos.
When Dagur ask Hiccup to call him brothers is the "enemy of enemy" episode I think.Season 3 episode 1 And when Hiccup calls to Dagur "brother" is season 4 episode 13.B etween I love that scene!☺️
After A wile I read this thing someone posted about the culture of Berserker tribes in Viking culture and time kingofthewilderwest.tumblr.com/post/108859629567/what-if-the-reason-dagur-calls-hiccup-his-brother and the hole why Dagur calls Hiccup brother thing makes sense after reading the link I gave you except for A few things Like "She's blood Hiccup, that makes her even closer than you and me." Or "You could've been my brother Hiccup." So Dagur thought of him like A brother in some form or fashion and not just A title. "Tell our little brother..." Dagur refers to Hiccup as both him and Heathers LITTLE brother. Now it could be because Dagur's A chief and the brother in arms to the Berserker chief is an important title, but Hiccup would be below Dagur on Berserker island because he's not the chief. That also makes no sense for the one reason Hiccup will be A chief one day of A tribe allied with the Berserkers. There is also many times Dagur has acted more like A friend or even brother to Hiccup instead of A brother in arms yet he still calls him brother in those moments. A brother in arms fights on your side and is A solder but when Dagur calls Hiccup brother many times, there fighting on opposite sides of one war. Think about many clips in this video, Dagur acts like an older sibling rather than A team mate. I also get confused because the mystery DreamWorks leaves behind, like the fact that the man who always called Hiccup brother, just so happens to be revealed as the brother to the girl Hiccup thought could have been his sister. I freaked out when watching the episode for the first time, and thought Heather was Hiccup's sibling. Now the man who calls him brother is the brother to the girl who I thought was Hiccup's sister. You also have the hole Dagur rides A dragon that looks like Toothless (triple strike), and acts like A best friend to Toothless. He also has many characteristics that remind me of Stoick, and looks more like Hiccup than he does Heather. I feel like DreamWorks is doing these little things to mess with peoples minds and make everything A mystery. It's who they are, think about all the animated films they've made, there's always something that makes you stop and think and never be able to wrap your mind around. Even when there enemies Dagur calls him brother. I also have the feeling that in A sense Dagur looks up to Hiccup despite him being younger. If you really watch certain episodes. I just need DreamWorks to give me an explanation!!!
Plasma Snow that's a really interesting link! Even though I love the books, I generally try to compare the show to real history, so I really like the part about the berserkers being an armada without any one island. That also explains why they are building a new village in season 5. As for the brother thing, I personally think that it stems from Dagur's obsessive nature. He began calling him brother because he looked up to hiccup's skill in fighting the night fury and wants that skill for himself. He also thinks that hiccup wants to be his brother, possibly because (as mentioned in that link) brother-in-arms to the berserker chief is a big deal. For the most part though, after hiccup's betrayal Dagur doesn't really call him brother again (the one time I can think of is when Alvin captures Dagur and he yells "hiccup? Brother?", trying to get sympathy from hiccup) until after he breaks out of prison. After that, he refers to him as his brother constantly. Dagur mentions that he spent the three years in prison dreaming about his revenge on hiccup, so we can assume that his obsession with killing hiccup only increased (Dagur even admits to hiccup in season 5 that his family has a problem with obsessions). I suppose this is what led him to ironically referring to his nemesis as his brother. I think it ends up becoming a habit to him, and his obsession with hiccup was such an important part of his life that the only way to reconcile those years that he wasted on it is to latch on to his history with hiccup. By season 3 of race to the edge, Dagur and hiccup have been through a lot together and Dagur still sees hiccup as an important person in his life because of their history, which is why I think he never pauses to think about if he should drop the ironic brother thing- he just continues using it but unironically, actually referring to hiccup as his brother. My favorite thing has to be hiccup calling Dagur "our brother" in front of Heather. Hiccup and Dagur's transition as brothers (from shallowly, to mockingly, to sincerely and finally to truthfully) also reflects Heather and dagur's transition. I don't think Heather would've ever accepted Dagur as her brother if hiccup hadn't shown her that he trusts him as his own brother. Siblings are my favorite, so I absolutely adore the berserker siblings and their adopted "brother". It's my favorite dynamic of the show.
OMG I have to add on this. My mom knows A lot about Norse history, and she told me this. In some Viking tribes if one Viking saved another they became like family. I can't remember exactly what she said, but it was something along the lines of if someone saved someone than the person saved would be the hero's family and there children's family. If this is true, Hiccup saved Dagur from Toothless. Sure later on Hiccup bretrayed him, but also think if Hiccup hadn't run in and stopped Toothless, the Night Fury would have still killed Dagur if Hiccup didn't command him not to. Later on I think Dagur had A sort of obsession with Hiccup being on his side like A brother in arms, then A brother like A nick name, then A brother like A title, then called him brother to earn sympathy or to get Hiccup to help him. In RTTE Dagur probably continued calling Hiccup brother out of pure habit because how long his obsession had time to grow when he was in prison. Hiccup never really called Dagur brother except in ROB A couple of times, and in RTTE because they were in battle as A sort of mocking name because he previously said he wasn't Dagur's brother. When Dagur saved him, I think Hiccup developed A trust for Dagur and also kind of realized him and Dagur had quiet A bit in common. Dagur didn't hurt him. Also like I said before, A Viking worrier would become family if one saved the other. That's why Dagur called Hiccup brother before he knew he trained dragons. Now Dagur saved Hiccup's life, so that's probably why Hiccup kind of thought the same thanks to culture and didn't say something like 'I'm not your brother' or anything like that when Dagur would call him brother and just remained natural. Later on Heather who is Hiccup's friend started trusting Dagur and Hiccup wanted to help her out so told her "Shall we save our brother." and not in A joking way. After that Dagur asked Hiccup to call him brother. Hiccup wouldn't at the time. His expression wasn't upset because of what Dagur said though, it was just because they had more important things at hand. I think that as Dagur and Hiccup became closer, Hiccup just wanted to be friends. Any time they spent time together though, Dagur would never let go of the culture and the fact he thought of Hiccup as family. Dagur would constantly treat Hiccup like A brother and it rubbed off on Hiccup so he started treating Dagur the same. Dagur was Heathers family so if Hiccup was family he would also be Heathers family. This is why in his note to Heather Dagur say's tell 'Our' little brother. When they were battling the hunters later on, Hiccup knew this battle was dangerous. He knew there was chances of people losing there lives. Hiccup and Dagur had become close, and both of them started acting more and more like family along with Heather and Hiccup. This is why Hiccup made sure to call Dagur brother in battle, make sure that if one of them died, they died knowing that they thought of each other like family and not just because culture. So no Hiccup and Dagur are not blood related. According to Viking law and culture though, they are family. In the culture there not brothers because they saved each other so many times, but they were family and used the word Brother because it made the most sense in what kind of family they were. Hiccup and Heather are technically family to since Heather is Dagur's family to. In culture there not brothers, and that's why Hiccup doesn't really refer to Heather as Sister. They use the word brother because they are family and it fits. So depending on how you look at it, the Dagur Hiccup and Heather are family theories are true in A sense.
I didnt watch that show, but hiccup has a brother? Or is it just a close friendship type of thing. My brother calls his best friends brothers and sister.
@@bettybatterwitch Thank you.I love Dagur's english voice. In season 4 episode 13 when he shut after Hiccup "brother " he sounds like he see Hiccup like an older brother😊 They are so cute.Usually I wish they are really brothers
Hiccup: I'm not your brother, and we are definately not having a moment.
Hiccup 5 minutes later in the same episode: You missed, brother!

Yes
Dagur, a brother and a friend has been gone for years now, Dagur will never be forgotten.

Alright, did you see my other comment about why Dagur calls Hiccup because there's A culture thing going on?
This made me more emotional than I expected. Beautiful job!
My favorite #Brethrenship of all time.

Well if you know some good fanfiction out there, hit me up. All I can find are some weird af ones.
You ever notice that brother's one of those words that sounds less like a word every time you say it?
I KNOW RIGHT. its such a wierd sounding word.
Thats cause you nearly never hear or say it
Does anyone else wish dagur was in the second and third HTTYD movie
It makes sense why he isn't, but, honestly I'd love to see him on the big screen. Maybe he'd even have a full beard instead of his scraggly one
I can't believe I can't download this absolutely beautiful work
I HATE YOU!
Dagur: *sad look*
Did Dagur die before Movie 2 or something cause that’s been what I’d been looking forward to but it never came about
Wow! 103 likes and 0 dislike, well done👏 I loved the video❤

When Hiccup said to Dagur "brother" is season 4 episode 13 And when ask to call him brothers is season 1,2 or 3.
When Dagur ask Hiccup to call him brothers is the "enemy of enemy" episode I think.Season 3 episode 1 And when Hiccup calls to Dagur "brother" is season 4 episode 13.B etween I love that scene!☺️
