Great to see it all up and running! Those old lima locos will struggle on inclines - I've got hornby class 50's and will be pulling around 9 coaches and my layout has a lot of inclines and declines. My 2 new reverse loops are fairly steep so I'm going to use dcc concepts power base on those ones.. heads up on the different coloured nse coaches - this was very prototypical that rakes of coaches often had different shades of the blue as nse changed from lighter to darker shade of blues so that was often seen on the network and is something I've already got together on my rakes. Tim
Hi Tim! Yes, as I mentioned to Nigel from West Hatton, I am goign to have to miss out of grabbing a Hornby class 50 as I dont get paid until next week. But I will be keeping an eye out for future bargains! Think as you mentioned, it'll help with the inclines. I did think about those, saw them being used by a few people, but never did actually do it on my layout. Ahhh I see, well I appreciate the heads up. Think a bit mroe research is needed by myself into that area tbh!
You certainly done good there Tony.....and running trains👍🏻........I found with mine a gradient on a curve is always a bit more of a struggle......regards Fred
Thanks Fred! I do agree with you there, I think it's the curve that's the problem, but I don't think I can do much about it now. Lesson learned though!
Hi Tony well done on your first running session not much wrong just a couple of alteration on the curves and your good to go nice track layout, and congrats on nearing the 500 subs cheers George P.S keep up the good work
Hi congrats on your first train running it gives you a buzz don't it I remember when my first Loco running around my layout cannot wait until the scenery starts that gave me a lot of fun I really enjoyed doing it layout looks brilliant
Hi Tony.... Your layout is coming along well.... Testing is so tedious, but very important, I have just completed this on my layout, lots of 're-laying' & tweaking........ I found that curves had to be 'relaxed' out to around 4th radius for modern stock, which was quite frustrating.. The old Lima pancake motor is quite unreliable...if you can afford to, get a late Hornby model... will cope very well with the gradients and rake.....Don't forget to check the back to back tolerances on your stock too.. Keep up the good work ... Regards...Nigel
Hi Nigel, thanks for your comment. Yes, it can be quite tedious indeed, but as you said, important! I'm in the process of starting my tweaks, and hoping that I don't have to do too much! I don't think I can manage 4th radius in the space I've got, but will have to do the best I can I guess! Yeah, I've found that, and I am looking into getting one. Frustratingly, Rails of sheffield have got the hornby 50 026 on sale for today only, but I dont get paid until next week, so will miss out on that! I'll keep an eye out in the future for a later model. Thanks again!
Hi Tony congratulations on your first running session and nearly 500 sub's. I'ts a big ask for to expect the lima to pull a rake of four coaches up the Incline. Great video mate, look forward to seeing you'r progress.............John.
Hi John! Thank you, I appreciate the support! Yeah, a couple of people have mentioned that now, and I'm thinking of a few ways to work a round it! Thanks again!
You're making good progress, must be quite satisfying to get that first run in. On a different note, are you sure that's a decoder and not the termination plug that sits in place if you just want to run in DC mode? I'm not seeing any silicon for the decoder logic and the board doesn't seem big enough.
Thank you! Yes, it's taking a lot of my time, but tbh the time just flys by when I'm working on the layout. Sometimes I feel like I need more hours in the day haha! And tbh, you very well be right, however when I got it out the box there was a leaflet saying that a decoder had been installed in the factory, so I just assumed that was the decoder. Now I think about it and look at it again, I think you're right! I'll be sure to check it out, thanks!
Hi matey. Excellent progress and another really interesting watch. Can't wait to see it all develop further! And that's a really lovely multiple unit. Great detail 🙂 One wee query on the 'decoder'...isn't that a dc blanking plug and not a decoder? I don't see any microchip or other components that you'd expect to see on a decoder. I'm not sure what the seller billed it as, but I think that dcc ready normally means that it doesn't have a decoder but has a socket for one, not that it comes with one. 🙂
Strathpeffer Junction - Hello! Thanks mate, really appreciate that! Got a lot of work to go, but I’m pretty happy with it so far! Yes, someone else pointed that out, and I think you’re right. However, when I opened the box there was a little leaflet saying it was DCC fitted with a decoder. So don’t think the seller miss advertised it. Think I just assumed it was a decoder without looking properly! Maybe it was an error in the factory?
Tony Docks Station Lol. Bit of a mystery then! I've not actually seen an 8-pin blanking plug like that before, so maybe someone got mixed up somewhere down the line?! I wonder if it's a fancy design because of the on board lighting or something? Anyhow. Glad you got it all sorted. Bet you're stoked tk have trains running. I'm hoping to get some progress made on my actual layout soon, but there's always something getting in the way of a good stint in the loft!
Strathpeffer Junction - Yeah neither have I, think that’s why it didn’t even cross my mind! I honestly have no idea, but either way it was broken as it wouldn’t run and made horrible noises from the decoder/blanking plate. A mystery! Yeah I am, just gotta fix the problems the running revealed now haha! Yeah I know what you mean. Every time I start to get into a rhythm on something, time disappears and I’ve gotta stop. Can be frustrating! I’ll be sure you follow your progress!
Tony Docks Station Likewise. It's nice to see others around the same sort of stage as you in the hobby. I've got a garage full of wood and ply all ready to go. I'm champing at the bit!
Strathpeffer Junction - Yes, I agree! There’s so many good projects on here I find it hard to keep up with them all! And yeah I bet, I remember when I started, just sitting looking at the material and desperate to just get going! How long until you get started do you think?
Farmer Dave Yes you are right! I found out later that the person I bought it from told me it was DCC fitted, so I assumed it was one. I soon realised it wasn’t fitted and that it was indeed a blanking plate! D’oh! Haha 😂
Hi Richard, I was waiting for someone to point that out haha! I had to take them off to get the body shell off when I installed the DCC decoder. However, I just forgot to put them back on! D'oh! haha!
Looking good. Great to get them running finally.
The Devon model railway - Thank you! Yeah, it’s a bit of a relief lol!

Tony Docks Station .....me as well hmmm!
Excellent Tony, i too have had a loco running around my track, unfortunately i have had derailments where the boards split apart !
Hi Ian, thank for your comment. Oh no! That's a pain, is it going to take much to fix it up?
Hi mate, nice to see the loco's running. A lot of time and effort to get this far, looking good. Chris
Thanks Chris! Yes, definatly a lot of time and effort, but well worth it I think now!
Well done on your first running session Martin Coalbridge Junction
Hi Tony well done on your first running session not much wrong just a couple of alteration on the curves and your good to go nice track layout, and congrats on nearing the 500 subs cheers George P.S keep up the good work
Hi George! Thank you, your support is greatly appreciated!
Hello again Tony, on the topic of your Hornby decoder, is there a method of testing it before you attempt to install on the loco? Thanks
Hi congrats on your first train running it gives you a buzz don't it I remember when my first Loco running around my layout cannot wait until the scenery starts that gave me a lot of fun I really enjoyed doing it layout looks brilliant
Hi Anthony, thank you! Yes, it's very rewarding after all the work I've put in to get some trains moving at last! Thanks again!

Thanks Simon! Yes, it's unbeleivable to me! Quite blown away to be honest!
Hi Tony. How do the point motors work?

The layout is looking good. It is always trial and error.
Thank you Nigel. Yes it is, here's hoping for lots of trials, and little errors though haha!
1:25 is it just me or is that a motor shorting plug and not a decoder ?
Farmer Dave Yes you are right! I found out later that the person I bought it from told me it was DCC fitted, so I assumed it was one. I soon realised it wasn’t fitted and that it was indeed a blanking plate! D’oh! Haha 😂
You should have gone N Gauge. Then you would have had loads of room to do a mega layout .
Haha, that's true, but my hands are far too shaky for N gauge. I can manage 00 though!
can we see the 43 run on speed step 1
As soon as I get trains moving again, remind me because I'll probably forget by then!
missing fuel tanks on class 47 mate
