hiya! im currently in college studying marine biology! the reason why our brains automatically assume this type of music to be “underwater music” is because fish love playing bells like this, so when we hear this we’re actually heaing their songs. hope this helps 😊
If you've heard what percussion underwater (like you thunk a barrel of water) or someone playing wine glasses sounds like, that's a good bit of why this sounds "watery".
Heck, even if you listen to sounds while underwater, they have a sort of reverberative quality to them. I think that’s what they were really going for here.
Funnily enough, there's actually an instrument called a waterphone, but it's mostly used for unnerving sounds instead of chill and relaxing ones (most famously the iconic Hell's Kitchen sound that gets misattributed to a violin all the time lol)
As I am curious, may I asked what this song has to do with Nintendo's under water music? I don't recognize any of the notes or phrases particularly, and, though I thought it felt like Nintendo, I would like to know if it went beyond feeling since you said this is what it sounds like according to Nintendo.
@@Mr.Me_UwU mostly it’s the instruments and general feeling the music has. There’s a certain sound that nintendos water music has, so I tried to make something that has the same feel although it’s not an existing piece of music by them. I think I could’ve done better and it could be more accurate, but that’s what it is
I think the back-to-back arpeggios on the piano convey the continuous ebb and flow of the waves, while the longer legato notes convey the overall cohesive flow of a body of water. It's pretty effective
I don't know how they did it, but it certainly works! The bells, strings and chords are what really sells it as a supposedly water-y theme, and this video perfectly encapsulates the pure vibes of those water-themed Nintendo levels/games. Hats off to you my man ♥️
As soon as it started I thought, "Oh what game is this from again?" Because I was so sure I had already heard it before in like a mario game or something! You definitely captured the water-y essence!! Very cool >

@@ethxnsucks a note interval is the distance between one note to the next. so the flow of those intervals look like waves or ripples of the water moving. im guessing it’s intentional, the music doesnt SOUND like water it physically looks like water on the sheet.
This is unsettlingly good to me. It like, grabs at the back of my nostalgia and just kinda tears it to the front in all the weirdest ways. Absolutely make a full version of this. It's too good not to.
How do you open a ear, when you can’t close it (not trying to be rude. I also hear this in my head underwater. Especially at night in a pool with a blue light at the edge)
I think it's because the big resonant timbre of the instruments mirrors swimming pool acoustics, the chorded vamp feels like floating in one place (which fits the idea of floating in water), and the tempo is just fast enough to remind us to keep moving so we don't drown or sink. Great job with this one!
