  • @Obi-Wan_Kenobi

Let me give you some advise as a guy who who has *lots* of experience playing as Mercy:
People will consistently blame you. They will blame you for dying, they will blame you for letting them die, they will blame you for not healing enough, and they will blame you damage boosting, and they will blame you for not pocketing them. As the Mercy, you are the #1 target for blame.
The unfortunate fact is that Mercy players receive a disproportionate amount of blame. Why is this you ask? Well it's mainly due to the role Mercy plays in the team and conceptions your teammates sometimes have about Mercy players.
Firstly, she's a support and they are disproportionally singled out as a role that requires low skill and don't receive the same glamour for healing that DPS have for getting eliminations. Plus some players directly link their own deaths to the support players (i.e. "I wasn't getting enough healing" instead of "I was out of position and talking too much damage".)
Second, Mercy's kit isn't as technical or as mechanically demanding as other support heroes. This causes some to believe that Mercy especially is low skill and you are a lot skill player for using her. Basically, they don't respect you as a player and they feel like they can say whatever they want to you.
Finally, there exists the concept of the "Mercy Main," a player who almost or flat-out exclusively plays Mercy. Many Mercy mains are females and/or new to first person shooters. If they are a newbie they often want to contribute to the team but don't yet have the skills/confidence to play a more mechanically demanding hero.
Frankly, there is nothing wrong with being a Mercy main, but that won't stop toxic players from thinking there is something wrong with you for mainly playing Mercy. Lots of stereotypes exist about Mercy Mains. They have un unfair reputation of being low-skill, always whining, inexperienced, and dependent players. Once again, this means toxic players won't respect you. And on top of that some players are just plain sexist. They automatically make fun of girls for playing and that's doubly true if they are playing Mercy, a hero who they, again, see as low skill.
*But here's the thing,* you have fighting chance to being being the victim of toxic blame if you don't let toxic players have any power over you. A big part of this is not being passive when it comes to their verbal abuse. If you use a mic and speak up for yourself, the blame will usually decrease because the toxic teammates now know that you are are not going to take your abuse lying down.
And after all, you are the one playing Mercy, not them. You have all the information on your screen and you are the one making the Mercy plays, not them. They can't stand up to you is you the Mercy hold all the cards. If they blame you for something that isn't your fault, calmly and rationally explain to them how it wasn't your fault. Tell them how you went to heal a higher priority target, how they were out of position, etc.
I'm not saying to make up excuses, but if you do have a legitimate excuse you should tell them so they know not to blame you. In fact, this my help them adjust their own play-style to accommodate for the problem you are bringing to their attention. "You couldn't heal me because I was out of position? Oh, well I better hang back more. Now I know that if I die it's my fault, not my Mercy's"
And look, this isn't a foolproof strategy. There will always be people who are toxic and you can't stop them all. But if you do standup for yourself as a Mercy player, I promise that the toxicity will at least decrease. Your teammates will see that you are not a passive target who will take any kind of verbal abuse, but an actual, independent human being. That's enough to make most toxic players lay off a bit.
So don't be afraid to stand up for yourself Mercy players, you have as much of a right to play this game as anyone else and you have a vital role to fill. You're the one playing Mercy so you're ultimately in command. Don't let anyone else push you around. If they want to criticize you playing as Mercy so badly then they should have just played her themselves. You are the one and only Mercy in this game. Have confidence in your gameplay decisions and let anyone else will less information than you tell you otherwise. :-)

While I agree that this ana is a problem. Hard focusing heals as ana when you have a mercy on your team is a bad idea especially in gold where mercy's dont understand when to damage boost. In an ideal world mercy would have pocketed the dps who have good/agressive positions while ana hits all her shots with rein/zarya rotate abilities to stay alive forever.

@@grapesofficial747 Exactly. You would think fellow supports would understand the struggle. I played a game as mercy with an ana who was constantly flanking for some reason. I ended up healing the team, and when she would take damage, just let her use her grenade because she was too far for me to just leave the team. She told me I needed to focus a bit more on healing her too. I shouldn't have to pick up all the healing slack because of a flanking ana.....

    • @mozzy646
      @mozzy646 4 роки тому +1

laughing at this comment because it has nothing to do with barriers and the fact that Mercy was doing generally nothing 80% of this game besides healing tanks. Ana builds ult charge by healing tanks. Mercy builds ult charge by healing DPS, second support and damage boosting DPS. Mercy should only ever heal the tanks when it's too much damage for Ana to outheal, or Ana is not present in the fight. Even when the fight was over, instead of letting Ana build ultimate charge off of healing the tanks, Mercy was constantly the one doing it even with ultimate. Mercy can output a good amount of healing which contests Ana's ultimate generation since Mercy is healing every second whilst Ana has to wait in between shots and reloads. If you are playing Mercy, you shouldn't use having gold healing as a flex, but use it as a means to say maybe I shouldn't heal that much and let Ana build ultimate charge. This Mercy player focused way too much on healing the tanks and for the most part neglected the rest of his team. Any Mercy player's top priority should be damage boosting DPS and healing the second support. Mercy is not the main healer here, and this player needed to have more confidence in Ana. I barely saw any damage boost throughout this whole match, and whilst a shiny gold medal can boost your ego, you have to really think WHY you have that gold medal. This is exactly the reason why I think medals are trash and mean nothing. The reason he had gold healing was because of the fact he was constsantly cucking Ana and not letting her do her job. Nothing would've changed had she played Moira or any other support. Mercy still would've had gold healing regardless due to how much he neglected the DPS and damage boost.

I flex between all roles and it's honestly incredible how many people are quick to jump the gun and point fingers at others, regardless of what role they play. Too many people with loud opinions but no substance to base them on, just want to be heard because they think they know it all and everyone else are holding them back.

Though, if you're Moira is literally only trying to dps and never heal then we have room to complain. you get used to it. A little tip I have is if people are not taking an insane amount of damage (like if your other healer is ana, moira or baptiste and the target you are thinking about healing is well above half health) then don't be scared to damage boost a dps unless you know they are about to take a massive hit (like widow/hanzo headshots or reaper) because you will easily have enough time to swap to them when they need heals, that's why you outhealed that ana because there were many occasions where there was about 50-100 healing that you did that you could've easily let ana and instead damage boost, that adds up quick.

    • @aspenture1087
      @aspenture1087 5 років тому +9

also when you ult damage boost unless a teammate is going below half health as well, 60 hps for everyone is good, but what about everyone on your team doing an extra 25% or 30% damage per hit (whatever the percentage is)
They will kill quicker, and if someone dies, then its less pressure/damage on your team.

Well vs the enemy team comp he really should be immortal with a mercy but he doesn’t hit a freaking shot and tunnel vision on 1 target away from his team instead of peeling and playing with his team..
Also, as an Ana main, the Ana was garbage.. in Ana-Mercy support comps, the Ana should be able to keep the tanks and mercy alive to let mercy have more time with the dps healing/dmg boosting them..

Some tips from a 400+ hr diamond mercy - when you're in valk, move more, and dont go straight up the second you activate. At higher ranks you are going to get headshot immediately. You may also want to think about a higher sensitivity, you seen to turn your camera very slowly. Another thing (well two things but they go together) - unless you have your pistol out, always have your beam on someone, you never know if they might hit something :p. Another thing, dont 'overheal'. If someone is full health, dmg boost em! Mercy is also one of the best shot-calling heros out there. If you have a mic and feel comfy talking, you may want to. She's so great cause she has the mobility to see the entire fight at once.

Love the tips about shotcalling and damage boosting, 100% agree. However low sens is fine for mercy, almost all top level players have low sensitivity for most heroes, as long as your mousepad is big enough that you can 180 very quickly its fine. Also verses their teamcomp there is nothing that could have headshot him so it was the right play to fly up in the air (obviously a different story vs widow, mcree, ashe, hanzo solider).

  • @moo-kg7ut
    @moo-kg7ut 4 роки тому +1

I have way too many hours on mercy so mercy mains here’s some tips:
Position yourself with quite some distance between you and your teammates. This makes it easy to propel yourself through them and the fight while getting away from flanks. Unless needing body blocking or getting hunted down by a moira/tracer, stay a good distance from your ranks.
Damage boost when your team gets anti-naded!! It helps them punish the enemies for getting too pushy to pick off the anti-naded.
Prioritize. Your. Teammates. Decide who is the most valuable in this fight or the next one? You had a bad doomfist low on ult charge? Save the rez for a tank/other support.
Super-jump is not only fun but super valuable. I find it very useful in dive comps especially. With both super-jump and slingshot be sure to cancel your GA after you make the jump so your cool down is faster. Every second counts.
Don’t be afraid to hide in plain sight. It’s never a good idea to stand still, but standing at the sidelines or behind your allies can be beneficial. You have great survivability if you utilize your GA properly. You can be brave.
Remember that super-jump rez can cancel if you go too high. I suggest super-jumping and then while gliding down you rez.
When gliding spam the glide button to make your wings hitbox smaller, otherwise you may be an easy target for precise hitscan. It’s a little move but a big different in terms of stealth.
Do. Not. Use your ult in a losing fight. It’s so much better to make a push, as long as you know when to damage boost. This is acceptable when you need to get off a really important rez to save the fight. Otherwise, save it.
Damage boost or even pocket snipers, especially widow. The damage boost goes a long way and always keeping an eye on your widow’s positioning can help you make an easy escape.
Don’t be afraid to take that pistol out, but mostly only on really low health enemies/snipers. Damage boost will not only boost your ult charge but also your ally’s.
You will get blamed. A lot. And bullied. It’s stressful, but it’s the job of a mercy main :/
Make sure to always have chat on, as a mercy you can make really good calls because of your situational awareness and flight paths.
Symmetra turrets your teammates won’t take care of? Don’t take the pistol out, simply super-jump or slingshot and melee it.
Remember your beam has a lasting delay when behind walls! This is especially useful against snipers and sombra, for you can hide behind a wall while peeking to keep your teammates up.
When running a mercy-Ana comp, make sure to let the Ana know that you are in charge of the squishies. Let her heal the tanks and do more damage while you keep the dps up.
That’s about it. I’m in no means a professional mercy, just some stuff I’ve picked up.

I only saw a few things I'd bother pointing out the rest of his play was fine the use of tech in the first round was 200+ iq level thinking tho so props
    1. Not boosting enough if it doesnt need heals dont heal that small amount of extra damage is the difference between your team getting a pick and winning the team fight or gaining ult charge slightly faster to win the team fight.
    2. Stealing small heals from ana not sure why sty didnt bring this up but theres no reason for you to stop boosting someone for another person who lost some chip damage ana can deal with that faith or no faith that she will because if you steal these easy heal stats it doesnt really benefit you to win it only stands to pad your own stats where ana she needs 28 shots to gain her ult so small chip damage that's easy to heal is more important to an ana then a mercy.
    3. Looking at the ground when using valk/slow latch swap over time should never be looking away from what you are trying to deal with if that's healing/boosting a teammate or shooting at something. Also sty might be right about your latch sense might be off or you can try letting go of the latch in between swaps instead of trying to drag over to the next character look for the blue diamond to confirm proper swap over this very important when it comes to ana players but can be just as much for others that get this effect as well.
    4. Suicide res not looking at score board enough - this basically always feeding unless you res something that will actually win the team fight there and then good example was when the zarya died in a bad position while you may have died doing that res if it worked the zarya could have done a huge ult possibly turning the game around. Like driving think see do before choosing to res.
    5. Pistol use - almost never a good idea to even use it except to take a 1v1 only if you must you can also try and kill everyone in valk but unless you actually do it's always a wasted ult. Towards the end I saw you were panicking and starting to try and help with dps in ot while you were doing this it resulted in the pharah dying which he then complained about then got you killed and the zarya killed then lost the game while yes sty is right the pharah was wildly out of position after the mei wall went up if you had gone with her maybe he could have gotten a pick and turned it around unlikely but possible just really got to understand what choices will win the game over deciding to do anything (panicking) by wipping out your pistol and essentially doing nothing because theres a shield in your face.

Only seen a minute and a half and I can wholly sympathise with the person. Just last night, I played two games and couldn’t play any more because my team were flaming me for doing the right thing. Busan Meka Base and I was playing out of my MIND, me and Ana were 2v4ing the enemy team and keeping them in their corridor, the rest of the team capped the point and “wtf you doing Rein? You’re throwing (after having stunned five people with 2 shatters and cleaned up), get back to point. Meanwhile, the dps switch to Reaper and Mei, I do all I can and it’s still MY fault that they pushed past when the Hog literally one tricked all game.
Second game, I was playing support, Lucio in a Lucio/Moira comp on Lijang Tower. Idiot tank decides to take Winston into a Reaper/Doom/Brig and bitches “wtf heal” “where are my heals”. I tried to explain the both healers had over 12k healing already (I was silver with that) and what we needed were abilities to prevent the damage in the first place - ie, TAKE ZARYA. When you’re taking 280 from a single shot to the face and then getting fisted into a wall, that’s ALL your health gone, with just a half second to heal in. But nope, I’M the problem. I’M not doing enough. I’M the one who needs to switch, in spite of having saved his ass (and the team’s) four times already with sound barrier (two death blossoms, a rip-tyre from when they tried junkrat for a while and a Gravitic Flux). The only reason we won that game is that Doom failed to land his cooldowns (once due to Boop, the other time due to Ana sleep) and I just lost my shit at the end of that game (not proud of my language).

19:04 I will have to disagree on this point, as Mercy in most situations you should prioritize dmg boosting a Pharah Barrage over healing her. During her ult, Pharah is very squishy in the air and mercy heal is hardly ever gonna be enough to keep Pharah alive if the enemy get the time to react to her ultimate. Pharah is not gonna get chipped down, she will be hard focused and often stunned. Therefore you should always prioritize damage boosting as long as the Pharah is not already close to dying. During her ult Pharah is like a glass canon, and her entire ultimate is about dealing more damage to the enemy before they can retaliate - so basically just trading favorably and dying is an expected outcome anyways. As Mercy you are able to provide so much more consistent utility if you damage boost the rockets of Barrage, rather than trying to keep Pharah alive through incoming burst dmg. Bubbles, armor packs, and matrix are effective in that regard, but not Mercy's heal beam. Instead, if you can manage to boost the damage of Pharah you might just allow her to penetrate that dmg treshold that allows her to destroy the enemy players before they even get to retaliate - which is always the optimal goal for a Barrage.
TL;DR - Prioritize dmg boost on Barrage, only heal if she's taking a lot of chip dmg. The damage of the ult is far more important than potentially keeping her alive for half a second longer, as the dmg of her ult while dmg boosted far outweighs that extra time alive.

Tbf I've found the best healers down in low plat / gold, and It really made me thik about it. I've spend an enormous ammount in all ranks and yes gm support players might be better but I feel like when we look from silver to high diamond most golds and low plats are way better. I think this could possibly be because people down there either really enjoy playing the game or are either trying their best to get higher up and I love seeing vids like this because they show us how good players can be in lower ranks.

I have so many things to point out here that you completely ignored Sty... First off, we were never shown the actual rating of that match, but it's clearly not a gold/plat border one. Mid gold at best. The fact that there are plats in this game means nothing, because people can duo and even triple queue and now you won't even know that unless you try to analyze it on your own.
Additionally, when you said that there was no need to talk about Mercy tech in this OverAnalyzed just because you saw that this player executed Super Jump in spawn twice before the first round even began, well... The player who submitted this clearly proved you wrong, because it wasn't used once when it clearly should've been used outside of making good first impressions. From what I observed, this player's movement and overall basic usage of GA are very lackluster, and he would get destroyed and farmed anywhere from 2.4k and above.
Also, the target priority, beam usage and decision making displayed in this vod are very poor. The usage of the damage beam was extremely lacking, rez decisions that were made were bad, not getting a rez off when he 100% should've done it, and target priority was way off after they lost the first point at 99%.
Lastly, the stats and ult usage. On paper it doesn't look so terrible, but in reality... The healing stat should way lower and it shouldn't be gold healing, mainly because there was an Ana on the team. WIth this movement and decision making the death count should be higher, but whatever. The first Valk was dodgy as fuck and shouldn't have been used for that purpose in that situation because there were people he could fly to, or alternately try to do a super jump. That was hardly productive outside of killing the Mei who cornered herself to begin with. Other than that the moments when Valk was used were okay. For gold rank and gold rank only I would grade it a -B.
Listen y'all, before you comment shit on this, I'm just gonna say that I'm not trying to bash this player or something because I'm at a higher rank and bullshit, I'm just pointing out what this vod actually shows and how poorly Sty reviewed it, ignoring a major amount of flaws in the gameplay, from basic movement to target priority to decision making, and how misleading the submitter was by showing he can use Super Jump but never used it once when it could've been used to get to a better position or to get a better vision over the fight. It was just "yeah I know how to perform X and Y moves but I don't actually know how or when to use them for the best effect so I'll just show off before the match begins" instead of making actual use of it, or at least trying to. This was an objectively bad Mercy OverAnalyzed because of how Sty reviewed the vod.

Plat and gold is the same thing, so why does it matter? This player would’ve gotten all golds in their game if it was just mid/low gold since gold is the most popular rank and they were playing alone. Usually being in gold and having plats in your game means you’re probably close to plat unless you’re playing with a plat.

As a Mercy player you also need to consider an element that Sty didn't mention: IF you pocket a Pharah, you will not be able to provide healing for your team, but against some comps and playstyles it might also mean that you allow the Pharah to deal so much damage that the enemy team crumble before they can even return any dmg to your main team - which again means your tanks require less healing, and all in all it becomes a win/win scenario. This of course entirely depends on the skill level of the Pharah, as well as the composition and playstyle you are up against. Typically this works better against slower moving comps and especially grouped up teams. In this game I think the Mercy did the right thing, the Pharah obviously didn't have a clue of what they were doing, but in other games it's a good idea to think about this stuff in advance. If you can create a scenario where your team deals more damage and receives less, that's obviously advantageous - while staying with the team brings far fewer opportunities but offers more consistent healing overall, which sometimes is favorable. You just gotta be the one to make the decision, and your decision-making skills will tell whether you are going to rank up or not.

stay away from your team, it is okay to be near them but keep a few feet away.
learn to cancel guardian angel to not fly right in the middle of the fight (watch a tutorial if you dont know how)
also if you feel like youre struggling with heals swap to moria or bap - but trust your judgement.
use natural cover! its going to be your best friend when climbing.
at around 11:24 sty says rez the mcree, i disagree he’s already close to spawn and save res for the fight.

Things that weren't touched on. 1) This Mercy doesn't abuse the fact she can look around limiting her awareness by a lot. She looks almost 100% directly at the team mate she's beaming. 2) When the Hanzo got dove on and complained she could have helped him as she was beaming him and then tunnel visioned to someone else not noticing Hanzo's HP go down. 3) I know you mentioned she should damage boost more, but she really does need to focus DPS more. She has an Ana and the tanks weren't struggling that much with needing heals. The DPS kept dying and couldn't get kills. Unless tanks are low or your other supports needs healing, there's no reason to be with them esp with the DPS she had. 4) Super jumping more would help her survivability. 5) Please press tab so you need can see the enemy team and your team mates ults.
No offense to Sty but he needs to stop saying a Mercy is higher than she is. I feel like it's counter productive and while I don't think she played badly, this was clearly gold gameplay. She lacks awareness, target priority, and her mobility/movement is very stagnant. You already talked about her rezes so I wont touch on that. I like that Sty was being positive, but I wanted to point out some simple issues with the gameplay as a Mercy player myself. He seems to really think Mercy players who send in their clips deserve higher when most of them are in a rank they kinda deserve.
(Disclaimer: My comment isn't meant to be hateful or mean to the player in this video. Just wanted to point out things and if this player sees this comment it is meant to be constructive and hopefully is seen as helpful.)

As a Mercy player on high gold too, I just want to humbly advice you to press your space-bar more often specially when there is a Pharah in your team. I mean you should stay in the air as much as possible to increase your survivability.
When there is a good Pharah in my team I rarely get killed by enemies because I'm always in the sky moving between players. And one more small thing, you showed us that you can do the bunny jump at the start of the game... Why you don't use that during the game?
