he definitely is a good lad, but i doubt that he fits in there. the war is going to kill his soul and for some people it is not worth it and i mean him . he is just a kid and NOT A TOUGH ONE and it can cost him his life. i done 2 years of national service in Poland and our training was at least 3 times tougher than that, this is a kinder garden ....
''at least 3 times tougher'' Then u're absolutely wrong.. the British Royal marines have the most toughest and longest training in the world.. especially the commandos.. At the end of the day you can trust Terry with your life! They get brainwashed.. they wont feel any pain anymore and they're mentally unbreakable! They get trained for interrogations etc.. These kids become unstoppable killers.. You must realise that this is only week 9 of the full 8 MONTHS!
Absolutely gutted for Slatter, he would've been phenomenal for troop morale. The fact he was doing all that with a back problem shows how much he wanted it, and the troop commander seemed genuinely gutted that he didn't pass out.
I remember watching this when it first came out and thinking all the lads looked like grown men... looking at this again 8 years later I can't believe how young they all look!
Does having a moral compass and wanting to go to Iraq/Afghanistan for the purpose of helping people out instead of what the others said which was 'too kill stuff' make him a 'shit soldier'? He passed all the physical training except for the jog which was due to his compartment syndrome and even then he showed impressive amounts of determination to push through it. The thing British/Australian/Canadian forces have over the likes of Americans is that there soldiers are capable of independent thought and have a good sense of right and wrong, not like their 'gun ho-lets kill everything-fuck civilians-maximum collateral damage' counterparts
101publicenemy I never said that makes him a shit soldier.. the fact he wonders round with his helmet not done up, forgetting passwords, complaining about everything, wanting to leave on the first day, moaning about being told off for more than a legitimate reason and thinking his corporal wouldn't care about him in afghanistan makes him a shit soldier.
***** So when he will have been told how to put a helmet on and do it up. Him ignoring that and not doing his helmet up which is stupid for obvious reasons.. is down to him being new to the military? or having no common sense? Forgetting passwords.. do you automatically earn a better memory when you've finished training? that makes you able to remember a password when he can't? How come everyone else remembered the password and remembered to do their helmet up? they are just as new to the military.
Terry John is a good dude. He's got a good head on his shoulders. While the rest of the troop seem to carry that childlike fascination with the idea of "killing bad guys" he actually considers the moral and ethnical implications of taking a life and is disturbed by the prospect of having to do so, but yet a willingness to do it only if it's required.
Takes me back to basic training at the guards depot in the 80,s Bearsted from morning till night, kit inspections every hour through the night, changing parades, show parades on the square for the littlest fault and relentless drill, gives me shivers thinking about it now but if I was a young man again I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.
A good friend of mine joined the army, passed out and then a month or two before deployment... they were on a training excersise and a jeep flipped onto its side. He wasn't injured as far as he could tell, but had a very minor back injury therefore had to be relieved. Really sad, but thats the British Army.
So far I'm loving that guy Terry John. I haven't watched the rest of the episodes (yet) but he's already changed so much since he first got there in the first video. I hope he makes it to the end of this, I feel like he could become a really good Marine. And he seems loyal and like he'd be good at contributing to the whole brotherhood that exists in most military groups. You gotta be like that to stay alive and to keep the guy next to you alive. I'm rooting for him! I just want to see him make it and see him feeling that he was then glad he didn't leave like he almost did. Damn it, now I'm invested in this show lol. A person's transformation from civilian to a legit military member is fascinating. I respect the hell out of them/you guys cuz I could NEVER do what they do. Physically and mentally I know I wouldn't be capable of doing everything. Even tho I'm American, I feel that way towards your guys' military as I do my own. I'm glad we're allies!
Alex James I have family in the military (can't say where), and yes, I have done some of the training they do e.g the 30 mile march and got 7 hours and 22 min, and that's with the required weight. I've also done the 4 mile speed march with the exact required weight, and got 39 minutes. I did that all for fun while out in the country 2 years ago. I'm in much better shape than I was now. He never trained. He never prepared himself for what was to come. Now he's working in some shitty section, because he wasn't man enough to fight through the pain. I watched a documentary, where a lad was running on a broken leg, a broken fucking leg. He kept running and running, then collapsed. He, nor the corporals e.t.c knew that his leg was broken, but he got through it. He then was out for a while and became a commando later on with another troop. This guy was full of excuses from the START. I"I wanna go home, it's not for ". Get the fuck out of here, man. (nothing personal to you) It's just a conversation. Stay well. :)
TheLondonCyclist It doesn't change the fact that it is an incredibly difficult thing to do and there is no shame in crying because you haven't succeeded. Unless you've got the same syndrome he has got you have no right to comment on him not dealing with the pain. A broken leg doesn't necessarily stop the muscles contracting like what this guy had.
A friend of mine went through the training at about the same time as these guys beat all the records and was awarded the Commando Medal at his passing out, he then served 3 tours in Afghanistan. He commited suicide last week at 36 leaving 3 young kids and a wife. PTSD from his time in Afghanistan which hounded him for years. The government sending these young men to fight other people's wars and the restrictions they are forced to fight under are to blame. RIP Sam Morgan.
only the murican marines jk jk, though as a Canadian probably slightly less impossible to become a royal marine lol! xD will say though, I do agree more with the British's way of training their marines more so than I do the Americans, however, American marines while serving the same function as royals the good [exceptionally good] platoons are often tasked with carrying out the same missions and objectives as their special forces counterparts & they've got a totally different mindset to the Royal Marines, comparing them isn't really fair, hence why I did so jokingly so please don't kill me mates.

Well the United States as a whole was a british colony. So I am not surprised that the US has a lot of similarities. Still, it is interesting to see how the brits do their training since I have never had a chance to see it. As far as "stealing" the language, I wouldn't go that far. It's more of we had it the whole time and then when we left, we developed it differently than you guys. Kinda like if you gave your kid a car that was the same make and model as your's and when he left for college, he made a few modifications to it while you didn't.
Andrew Kim I wouldn't say "developed". You guys just took out letters from certain words i.e labour... you guys just removed the "U". lol Here's a cool fact: The phrase "soccer" was first used in Britain, and in doing so, the U.S. used it, too, but after a while, we got tired of it being too "americanised", so we renamed it "football". Did you know that? :D Also, aluminum was first used in Britain, too, but we renamed it "aluminium". I like researching stuff :D

Nah, the Terry guy was too showy ... he was too much of the class-clown 'look at me' type, if you get me. I didn't rate the fella as a hardened dealer of death.
Thank you for the uploading this important document! The training facility is excellent, and the office,r Lt. Rogers is exemplary. A. Why do the instructors associate physical exercise with punishment? B. Why do the instructors shout and curse indefinitely? C. "And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise:" [Judges 7:17 ] Why do the instructors not carry their rifles?
A - because physical exercise is tiring and painful B - to create a hostile environment for the recruits and to add pressure C - because the instructors are not undergoing training themselves
@@yuck9510 A. So in the long run recruits will refrain from physical exercise, which is essential for their survival. B. It is probably something that has to do with cultural differences. Once you fire your weapon. You've given up your position. You have to keep moving. Hand signals. No talk. Or you're dead
What ever happened to terry John?
I love this stuff
I love Royal Marines God bless Amen
I have such an itch to do this. Every time I look at this, I see myself. I hope, as soon as I finish my degree, to ship over; across the Atlantic, and serve. Until then, I'm going to crack on
Which nationality are you?
@@JammyDodger45 South African, so falling in the commonwealth category
@@CannonmangamingYT - 🤔.
Saffas are either shit hot and storm through training or just shit and blow up, there seems to be no middle ground.
I hope you're in the former buddy.
Are you thinking of Commissioned or RMC?
@@JammyDodger45 as it stands RMC ; would be keen to perhaps later on go commissioned. I'm started with getting myself up to a mildly satisfactory level of fitness last year and for the next three its just gonna be a steady growth. I've never wanted something this badly in my life and for as long (since I was able to talk) so yea I really hope i'm not the former either😅
@@CannonmangamingYT - well that gives you plenty of time to get your phys up to scratch.
What are you like with cold/wet weather (if you've ever seen any!).
It is genuinely the No1 reason overseas lads leave so you'd best get your head around it ASAP, or just try and get on a recruit troop that starts in March (that means you'll get your early Field Exercises done when the weather is ok and you'll be acclimated by the time winter comes!).
I hope it pans out for you mate, it's the best job in the world!
Royal Marines one of a best Units on the whole World ❗💯👌
how is the company commander so neat with that black pen
Does anyone know how they feel about the SAS?
i think terry was good for morale and that he had all the right attributes, just a shame his fitness wasnt quite there
Nah, the Terry guy was too showy ... he was too much of the class-clown 'look at me' type, if you get me. I didn't rate the fella as a hardened dealer of death.
Terry-John at 3:14 😂 He looks so scared
In my day we had a set of dog tags as body armour
What's your point mate? It's harder to soldier with body armour on less mobility more weight on you.
8:46 dude looks like he dont give a f#ck. lol
10:37 bloke on the right cought ticktocking 🤣🤣🤣
Terry-John is my hero
Thank you for the uploading this important document!
The training facility is excellent, and the office,r Lt. Rogers is exemplary.
A. Why do the instructors associate physical exercise with punishment?
B. Why do the instructors shout and curse indefinitely?
C. "And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise:" [Judges 7:17 ] Why do the instructors not carry their rifles?
EinHarod9 did you know lt Rogers unfortunately passed away in 2011 in a light aircraft accident in Dorset :(
A - because physical exercise is tiring and painful
B - to create a hostile environment for the recruits and to add pressure
C - because the instructors are not undergoing training themselves
@@yuck9510 A. So in the long run recruits will refrain from physical exercise, which is essential for their survival.
B. It is probably something that has to do with cultural differences. Where I live, this is considered a loss of self control.
C. They are setting a bad example. Training should simulate authentic fighting situations.
@@kottelkannim4919 What are you arguing with me for? I just answered the man's questions, I never said I advocated these practices
@@yuck9510 Your clear answers provoke a critical reference.
M here for Terry.. I just pray that he won't quit.. Coz if he quits I will also quit watching other episodes
6:30 is this kinda stuff normally on British tv?
Look at the background when they're loading the bullets
You do realize that they show many more and those same ones closer up later on, on multiple occasions lol
The bloke who filmed this made another video at 55.....he knew the fitness..... The British army is mainly kids tbh
The military before woke culture takeover... beasting😅
They're not taking it serious enough
It seemed a world away from my experience there in 1990… 🤔
I wanna join the Royal Marines, still gotta wait a few years though 😕
You in?
