@@jojobod Not just that, American audiences didn't even see the same show. They cut out anything where Gordon displays any amount of humanity and just broadcast the angry, perfectionist, jerk who shouts funny mean things. From what I've seen the guy's actually pretty affable, even generous at times. He's just intensely disagreeable on matters of the culinary arts because it's his passion.

Julia Child is unironically one of the most influential people in the world of cooking.
You see, she was one of the first to actually get popular for having a cooking show.
Primarily because she was responsible for translating a ton (and I mean A TON!) Of French cuisine to English.
Not only that, but on her show she often improved upon the recipes, making them more paletteable for audiences (Primarily by loading it up with butter lol.)
So yeah, she's quite literally, the og.

Something to think about: when you watch a battle between a character you know and one you don't do you usually side with the one you know? And if there is a pattern is it because they were genuinely better or is it because you can't judge the other side properly so they get less credit overall?

she was a delightful mature woman, she was 91 (died 2 days til her 92nd Birthday) years old when she passed away. ate butter, drank wine, still lived to be in her 90s so you dont have to be a health nut to live a long and fulfilling life. calling her "a glorified translator" is honestly underselling her, she was easily the first TV Cooking Show Host which is a benefit that Gordon reaps to this day. not only would Gordon be kind to her if he had met her, but he would've been thankful for what she began, for if not for her he wouldnt be rolling in the amount of dough that he has.
