I finds these type of clips sooo informative. I have saw Giselle over 50 times by my beloved RB,but I had no idea that the willis arm placement at times is meant to signify the holding of children they never had or as they stand at the side of the stage they are on the looking for ant unsuspecting man to kill , Bravo to the RB for these type of clips , I look forward to seeing more of this type of feature
Yes! David, in our ballet company, we were also told to hold our arms like that because if you were to lie on your back it's how arms and hands are placed on the dead... so much symbolism!!! And having danced in the corp, I can tell you, I had to hold my tears in every time we performed Giselle.
@@RomyMacias That's so moving. It must be a wonderful experience to be part of Giselle but also difficult to face both technical and emotional challenges on stage at the same time. That reminds me of the RB performance with Osipova as Giselle. Funny enough the saddest moment for me was actually at the curtain call because it was clear that Natalia wasn't able to come back from the deep sorrow when the audience were already cheering. That was heartbreaking.
the girls say that they think the corps de ballet is really important, I would suggest that the corps is absolutely vital! I can happily skip through DVDs just to watch the corps, esp Giselle and La Bayadere
La Bayadere...completely agree, the corps is superb. I love Nikkiya's variations but nothing can compare to the Kingdom of shadows entrance...
When Annette Buvoli puts her veil on backstage---it's everything theatre is, everything the magical ritual of performance means...and under the veil with her large eyes
she looks exactly like the lithograph of some legendary 19th C ballerina! What's more sublime in Art than 'Giselle'?
Watching ballet videos having never done any ballet...
Having finally attended a Royal Ballet performance of the production this week I can say that it is a quiet transcendental experience and the illusions created on stage are extraordinary.
It's really nice to see a very young person haveing already that sensitivity and intelligence.....
My god she is gorgeous. Especially in costume.
Wonderful close-ups and interviews. More of the corps de ballet please!
I love the way they talk about ballet, and about Giselle. They understand it in such a beautiful way and it helped me to better understand it, too :)
Annette is one of my favorite dancers. In every Live relay I always look out for her! She was most amazing in Don Quixote!
A lovely video! Without them, the Royal Ballet cannot exist.
GREAT!!!!Thank you for sharing!!The corps de ballet are so important and so beautiful! Thank you so much!!!
I was named Giselle by my mother during her pregnancy, she told me that she was delighted by the Act and by the ballet dancers. I've actually became a professional belly dancer, it's not quite a ballet dancer though but, it's a bit close.
Victoria Robertson Lol just barely, ballet dancers are usually pretty scantily clad themselves.
I'd love more videos of the corps, we can't do without them.
I've always been interested in ballet but I've never gotten the opportunity to try it. I'm 18 now so it's probably hopeless to try doing it professionally but I still want to
Spoiled Cheeseball i say to go for it! ballet is honestly amazing and you may not do it professionally but it can still be loads of fun and a great overall experience. see if any studios have open adult classes near you and at least give it a try. i wish you the best of luck!
Hey man nothing is impossible, don’t let anyone ever tell you that you can’t do something. If you want it, go for it :)
Hannah Bruce, if not going for a professional level, would you still be able to perform on stage?? Or would it just be constantly in a studio learning? I'm currently 17 with no chances of going professional, but I'd still love to learn. Even if I never set foot on a stage.
VonSmore some dance schools have annual dance shows but depending on how old you are, you can audition for some productions for people under 18. I’ve done both and shows are really great to do!
I'm so excited for this, it looks amazing!!
What a beautiful story. And the ballet is so powerful and emotional in every way. Was this Giselle played by Natalia Osipova?
+Pauline IV This film was created for the 2014 cinema broadcast which starred Natalia Osipova and Carlos Acosta, but during that run of performances the corps de ballet also danced with other casts, including Roberta Marquez and Steven McRae, Sarah Lamb and McRae, Marianela Nuñez and Thiago Soares, Lauren Cuthbertson and Federico Bonelli and Laura Morera and Bonelli.
im a ballet dancer and I am in Gissele ballet and it is wonderful and beautiful xx
Thx for sharing!:D it is lovely giselle corps-showing high quality of loyal ballet! amazing and beautiful
Wonderful to see such background work.
Thank you very much for this clip . So interesting amd informative . Giselle is my favourite. I hope one day I can see it for real at The National Ballet of Canada 🇨🇦
This is wonderful! Thanks for posting!
A heartbreaking beautiful ballet my favourite makes me cry everytime i see it !!!!!
Long life to Giselle and to all the beautiful dancers!!!
Thank you 💕
I really love willis' costume of Royal Ballet. It shows beautiful, but cruel character of these fairies very well.
I love this dance sequence. So beautiful 🥰🧡
This is wonderful! More on the corps and the principle character artists as well please!
Please put out an interview with Gina! She's the first(second) Norwegian dancer at RB. Saw her in this vid as well. Great!
Annette is a sweetheart ❤
Amazing!
I've always wanted to watch Giselle.
videos like this really make you appreciate the corps
thanks for sharing ! interesting
Really nice video
I'd have loved to do ballet, but with exams cramming my schedule there's no hope:((Also there are no adult ballet classes in my town... I admire this dance so much and maybe one day I'll get to do it as a hobby
everyone looks so young here!
I live Claire Calvert so much and when I saw her in the video I audibly gasped
Giselle is one of my favorite corps e ballet.
Nice!
Giselle is so good.
I want to be a ballerina one day when I grow up at New York City ballet as I started dancing since I was 3 years old an is still dancing until now.I love ballet.
same I have been dancing since I was 3. I love ballet so much, there is only one ballet school in Singapore. It is not even a true ballet school, like those in America or Europe. The one in Singapore it is just like a ballet centre only it is more professional than the other centers in singapore
Knew about the willies (sp). And how they are.
Giselle is the most beautiful ballet :)
Mayaraaaaaa 😍
Mayara Magri ? ♥
I saw Mayara Magri, Leanne Cope, Elizabeth Harrod, Yasmin Naghdi, Francesca Hayward .....I am sure if I watched a few more times that I would recognize more dancers ❤️
Do they teach you the ballet all the time?
I was named after the Giselle ballet but my mum wanted to spell it with a J
wow that is dark I never knew that.
may i know where to get the body stocking she wears underneath the maroon leotard? we don't have these in where i stay
i bet you it'll be a pair of old tights - cut the feet off to whatever length you like and then a little circle on the crotch area and there you go!!!
Can anyone explain whats the difference between first artist and first soloist?
First Artists are the Royal Ballet's more senior members of the corps de ballet, whereas a First Soloist is the highest soloist rank before Principals. Hope that helps :)
the wilis are like the original misandrists, love it
The Hops. I love to watch them, but it always seems a really strenuous thing for the dancers.
I love ballet im Aaliyah belen Chacon
Oh my god she looks like emily blunt
B allet ✅
The version danced by Ulanova is a real crier.
