Nice repair job on the coolant leak.. it looks like the person that tried to do a temporary repair took the easy way out probably just to sell it as a temporary fix... Nice job being a father figure 👍...
Yooo nice job with the repairs, nice to see it done in case mine start leaking... You can put these g8s into in engineering mode. Push the thumb wheel in while starting the car, it will show the oil pressure, trans temp, throttle position and several other valuable info... thanks again for the excellent videos keep em coming.
Damn. After watching this, I think I may now know what's going on with my Lumina (Holden). I may just order these parts anyway and have it done. Mind you, I'm not talking about my two G8 GT's. I'll have the mechanic use your video as a guide hahaha
@@TWAMotorsports I have this engine in my 2008 G8. I bought the car brand new and have never had issues with it (so far 🙂). The odd thing about the intake is the Camaro has a smaller intake and you can access the plugs with no problem. The LY7 is really way over-engineered. I don’t know why they didn’t keep the 3.8 and improve on it like they do most of their stuff. When this car quits I’m done with GM.
Hey buddy how much coolant you figure she lost just doing it this way ?? Mine just started and it's now snowing everywhere. Just wanna do quick at home
Have you ever changed a thermostat on a G8? My shop said they will take 9 hours of labor!!?? My engine temp isn't rising as it should . They told me replace thermostat
My G8 V6 also had issues due to bad mechanic work. Timing chain wasn't done right (ford mechanic did the job before I bought the car which I found out, go figure) and stretched so I had to pay $1800 to get it done correctly by a GM mechanic and then I had to have the wiring harness for the fans in the front redone since they were incorrect. The car was in a accident way before I got it and even they didn't fix the wiring correctly for the fans in the front. The car's temperature gauge would act all erratic and would start to overheat and the fans wouldn't turn on. Other times I would have to drive the car with the heat on just to pull the heat out of the engine bay and to lower the temperature before the mechanic (same one who redid the timing chain) found out the wiring was incorrect. After all that, the car drives just fine but I honestly wish I would have not gotten the car. The G8 GT I later got has been 100% trouble free.
It looks like a lot of work on a car. I changed out my water pump on my 04 tahoe just last week and it took me 2 hours in total going to the auto parts store included. I had changed out the serpentine belt back in March because it was squeaking and because I was going on a road trip and when I came back it was making noise and noticed there was water on the ground. But with everything going on last month it took me a month just to work on it
I have this same car and it's over heating and no visible leaks and the reservoir tank is full. No one around here can tell me why it is over heating 😢
@TWAMotorsports I've been trying to look for halfway decent struts for my Pontiac G8 Base sedan V6 that I got for my wife And nothing. I'm not trying to pay 2,000 for some struts.
Just press and hold the scroll wheel on the right while you are starting the car up and it will pop up on the dash, you can only do it at start up not while you are driving
My wife's Camaro has the same motor with what looks like a different intake on it. Hers has the DEXOUS 2 spec on it. The high milage mobile one stuff doesn't meet it, but the regular stuff does. I use a OEM or Wix filter and just change with when the computer says to. It intervals at 7500. They say it takes different things into account. From my ODO it does not!
Many red flags should have been able to notice the shady mechanic repair work on pre inspection purchase, was this like a 16 year old kid purchase where you just saw the car you wanted without thinking about how it ran or how it was maintained? I know it was your kids first car but watching this video it’s like he went and purchased it by himself?
Hey bro.
Just wanted to say that it’s Dec 2022 and this video is still helping people! Much appreciated!
Thank you. Glad it can help others
You are an amazing father you could ever be man!!
Thank you
You are the proudest father you could ever be while you ever think about 😀😃
He should have came out to help.
Nice repair job on the coolant leak.. it looks like the person that tried to do a temporary repair took the easy way out probably just to sell it as a temporary fix... Nice job being a father figure 👍...
Thank you Keith. I hope it sells soon lol
You are such an awesome dad bro, I've said this before I can't wait to do this kind of stuff for my boys
He is seriously the best!!!
Thank you. Sometimes it sucks to fix not fun things.
Is he though?
Good job you are the greatest dad you could ever imagine ❤
Thank you
I have respect for you for using Mobil oil
I generally use it in about everything
@@TWAMotorsports that’s pretty good
Always worked good for me
Worth the work for an awesome looking car. Dope video. Keep them coming 😆
Thank you. Hopefully sold soon

Interesting. Thanks for that info on engineering mode.
I just bout one with the same motor 130k miles and has the same problem so I'm loving you right now 😂
Good luck. It sucks
@TWAMotorsports did the new bolt heads rub the water pump pully when you changed it? Cause I used you link... just curious.
They didn't
Great video. I have a GT with a coolant leak too. It’s a pain. Love the car, though.
Thank you. Gt with the V8 is way easier to work on
Imagine having your dad as a mechanic and also have a badass trans am
I don't know that that matters to him. Lol
Once again. GREAT detailed video. Do you offer a video on installing a cam on your Trans am yet?
Thank you. I made one a long time ago when the engine was out
@@TWAMotorsports ok. Can you send me that video of it here. I'll look it up on UA-cam. Thank you
I can't send links here
@@TWAMotorsports can you help with my fronts breaks. I want to upgrade the front calipers, to a 4 piston set up.
I haven't done that
Great video, thanks
Hopefully it helps
Where can I find that part I’m having the same problem right now with the same model please help out thank you 😢
Parts used are linked in video description

Yeah. Common leaks
You have to remove the manifold just to change the spark plugs. That may be why the intake had been removed.
Probably. Junk!

Glad it helped.
Another great repair!

Maybe a half gallon
Nice not bad going to change mine tomorrow shitty luck just changed oil other day too

No. They are on the back of the block. Terrible placement
Where can I locate the coolant temperature sensor I have the same car
Gm directly
Great video as always
Thank you Daniel

I agree. Bad mechanics suck. Sometimes they create more of a problem. As for the v8 G8. They are way better cars in my opinion. Had several of them.

It was and it sucks to have to pull apart to see what parts you need.
@@TWAMotorsports I have only worked on 1990-2006 chevy trucks so I feel like it would be a hard decision to own a car
I just don't care for the engine. Car is ok though
Trying to find where the coolant sensor sis located on a 09g8 v6
I'm not exactly sure. Didn't replace that
i have the same car i had to do the same thing...but you will need to change the whole thermostat housing its a PAIN

May be internal leak
Where do you get struts from

Ebay maybe
If you put it in engineering mode on the dash it will give you accurate coolant temperature in celsius

I thought 💭 the 3.6 from GM was the best and reliable V6 out there. I’ll have to second think 🤔 my next purchase of a 3.6 CTS.
Absolutely not. 3.8 Yes. 3.6 not a chance
GM has a habit of canning stuff that works well. Just in the DNA I suppose.
Seems like it sometimes
Water pump failure is a feature on most GM vehicles.
Lol. Isn't that the truth
That's German engineering for you. Drop a 3.8 turbo in there. Just kidding. Good luck.
Yeah. No joke. Wish it had a 3.8.

Yeah newer ones do ask for dex but older ones don't
