I've worked above high tension wires as a climber & even sub transmission. Where I live they hang the wires low because we don't have many trees over 100 foot. More often than not it's an Aspen or a white pine 80+ foot above high tension & high voltage. I don't like it but as long as you know your minimum approach distance & make no direct or indirect contact it's somewhat safe. I just make sure to cut things small enough that they are less likely to hit wires.

Used to work for the power company cutting trees out of power lines. If a tree was in the power lines and the owner wanted it removed we would take the whole thing out for free. (cheaper/safer than dealing with a down power line in the future) Many owners didn't want us to even trim their trees out of the lines. We had to keep the power up so that's how those horrible "U" shaped trees with lines running through the middle come to be. I hated doing it, but that's what the owner wanted.

The power company will help with the "electroconvulsive" parts of the mission but will generally only trim through the line clearance zone - those monkey beaver folk, however, handle the holistic/"whole"-istic tree clearance zone and maybe someway into the root grindance zone.
    holistic
    - philosophy - characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole

The power company in my area has a full time arborist department. They have 15 arborists on staff and several boom trucks and chippers. They will come out and remove branches for you, usually free. Cheaper for them to do that then to repair the damage caused by some idiot dropping a tree in the wires.

It's one thing I don't understand. How come a houseowner allow trees to be so close to their houses? Do they built a house 4 feet from a tree or do they let it grow so close. Trees close to a house only means problems.

If youre chunking in a situation where ricochet is possible, you should probably pull out a block and portawrap and start negative rigging. Makes the difference between a nice clean landscape and a beat to shit one when youre done. Tree guys that just pound the ground and dettroy the grass/plants leave a bad taste in customer mouth when they hire another crew. Chunking is easier but the negative rigging is proper and definitely more professional.

I guess they tightened their speed-line so much it rose above a branch of that little tree.
So when the limb came down it got hung up on that branch.
Speed-line being over it, it made for a bight.
