    They were speaking in Afrikaans. As someone from The Netherlands, I can just about make up what they are saying.
    They first introduce her and talk about where she's from, then they ask what school she goes to and how she got into singing opera, she says her entire family has made classical music and she wanted to join in, she couldn't play the piano because her hands were too small at the time. She started of baking cookies (lol) and then heard opera and started singing it around the house. Then they discussed how she found her 'Opera voice', she says its her natural, normal voice. They then ask if she's been to singing school, to which she answers she's had a few lessons but would like to continue normal school because she wants to become a lawyer if singing doesn't work out (good choice).
    They then say something about the album which I didn't understand, after that they talk about how she got into the public spotlight (Holland's Got Talent). Her dad filled in the forms and such because he and her mom thought her voice was awesome (just like we do), she herself always wanted to be on tv and thought the big cameras and such were cool. Then she went there, got put on youtube, went there, got put on youtube, went there, won and got put on youtube again, which she didn't expect because she just wanted to appear on television. Her prize was a trip to Las Vegas with donuts for breakfast daily.
    They continue to ask about what music she listens to herself, she replies that she listens to Sarah Brightman, Jackie Evango, Corlio Bortal and Andrea Bocelli (Names might be wrong, I don't know them). She and her mom also listen to 80's music in the car and sing them together.
    They ask where she wants to perform, she replies that she has been in all continents except for Australia and that she'd love to perform there. They then talk about her charity, Gelukskinders (Which basically means Lucky Children/Happy Children, depending on how you translate it) She said she earned quite a lot of money with concerts that she did not need yet and that her mom is from SA and that children in SA often don't have fun playgrounds, her charity helps provide local SA neighborhood with fun playground for the children.
    They then talk about how she's enjoying SA so far, since she's only just moved there. She says that the people here are a bit nicer than in The Netherlands and accept you the way you are and that they were welcomed here with open arms (that's a dutch expression idk if that works in english) They also joke about how she was short in The Netherlands, but compared to South Africans she's pretty tall.
    They talk about her favorite songs from the album, which is 'As it is in Heaven' which is about a woman who is abused by her husband, joins the church choir and the conductor of the choir thinks she is amazing and lets her sing in front of a lot of people after which her husbands beats her up. The woman then leaves the husband and joins the church. They then ask if Nessum Dorma is hard to sing, she answers that it isn't that hard but the lower notes at the start are harder to hit.
    She is asked how important it is to warm up her voice before singing, she says it's pretty important because otherwise it's pretty hard to make it sound good. They then asks if she learns the languages the songs are, or if she just mimics the sounds, she replies that she learned many languages in school in The Netherlands (Dutch, German, French, Greek, Latin and Chinese) and that she tries to understand what she sings so she can attach the proper emotion to the proper word.
    Her next big performance is at 'Classics' which she says in the highlight of the year, she wants to pursue singing but also be safe so if people no longer think she is tiny, and cute she can still make money and become a lawyer. Being a lawyer and singer are both here passions.
    She ends by saying bye and recommending us to buy tickets for Classics, because it's going to be 'bear good' ('bere goed' is a saying in dutch, which means really really good)

    The difference between SA compared to the Netherlands relative to Amira's career is becoming more evident. Living in SA afforded her more opportunity to do promotional activities like this interview. I can understand the reasons behind Netherland's strict laws aimed at protecting children. However, those same laws hindered and stifled the growth of Amira's career. Except for safety issues, Amira's decision to move to SA is an excellent one.

    • @dafyddllewellyn6636
      @dafyddllewellyn6636 6 років тому +2

      Rainier Esquerra I've wondered about the safety issues, too - but I think they are exaggerated. Nowhere in the World is truly safe; for example, the mass shootings in American schools have brought the schoolkids there out en masse in protest against the gun laws; that's one of the last places on Earth I'd send children. Europe has a massive refugee problem, with the inevitable concern over extremists amongst them. In France, the police shoot first and ask questions later - and one can hardly blame them - and Britain is no safer. You get people driving trucks into crowds everywhere there are large crowds. I think we get a distorted picture from the media; Amira has extended family in and around Potchefstroom, and they must know how to survive there. It's one of the few places in SA (or the World) where people can ride bicycles. Amira is obviously very happy where she is; and none of her family are in any way fools - how can any of us know better than they do? I am getting very tired of people saying "she should have gone to (wherever)", aren't you?

      Dafydd Llewellyn , school shootings in America are actually quite rare when you consider that there are over 40,000 high schools and over 90,000 elementary schools.

    • @dafyddllewellyn6636
      @dafyddllewellyn6636 6 років тому +1

      Glad to hear it; but they seem to be even rarer elsewhere . . . my point was that the kids seem to be alarmed by it in the U.S.A. , and not elsewhere. There are dangers everywhere; we just live with them. Amira is doing that. I would not choose to live in SA, either, but it's Amira's business, not anybody else's.

      I know right! I am just a few months older than her and absolutely amazed by what she has been able to pull of, I think its almost 5 years ago now when I first noticed her on the television and got as blown away as anyone else, after her winning the finals I, like most people, forgot about her. Yesterday however, I felt this sudden, random urge to listen to her again and fell in love with her and her music again. She would make some solid wife material for some lucky guy (or girl!) in the future!

      @@S_t_even no,in white South African schools u only learn Afrikaans and English which Afrikaans is like a dialect of Dutch, during the 16/17/1800 so many Dutch people moved to South Africa,, and if u want to learn say german or french u must take it in after school hours, no white school, in South Africa have Dutch german french classes during normal hours, they all are extra classes, when the interview was done she was in Grade 8, so if she did this interview 4 years ago she must have just finished her grade 12 school year,

    Summery of That Great Breakfast. Afrikaans is an old Dutch language and quite difficult, also for the automated subtitle system. It is just a try. Off we go:The interviewer welcomed Amira with talking about school, homework good 8, about her youth, family with a lot of instruments, organ in the church as well , playing with words. But her hands were at that stage to small and sick of baking cakes. decided to sing opera. Singing classes? yes, but doesn`t want conservatorium (min 2,4) because she will perhaps also become a lawyer. But continue with singing clases in SA. Prof -voice(?) is my normal voice After breakpoint (3,25) interviewer welcomed new listners and talked about Holland Got Talent where after Amira jumped from nothing to millions of hits on YT and a joyful trip to Las Vegas with every morning donuts for breakfast (4,34). To whom did you listen? To Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, Corlea Botha etc. Many performances in the world, only Australia being the missing Continent (5,17). Earned money? Yes, but really I didn`t need it. How started Gelukskinders? Because my mother is from SA and during our visits I noticed that there were no playgrounds and in Holland you have got them on every corner. In the Township we met people (Jos) and from there on we created the Foundation Gelukskinder (Happy Child) (6,13). Living in Potchefstroom (Transvaal) is very nice, good weather, family around, nice people. Continue talking about differences in Holland and SA (7,30) . Picking up the CD they started to talk about the songs. Amira likes Gabriella`s song very much for the story behind it. In the film "as it is in Heaven", a woman is treated badly by her husband and after another beaten-up by him, she runs away and joined for ever with the Church Choir and was free.Talking about performing with Paul Pot (8,51) was fine. Singing Nessun Dorma dificult? No, once you`ve got the low key note ( 9,08) good, the rest is easy. How important is it to warm up ? Very important and also the lips, otherwise the sound is not good. (9,25) And about the other languages on your CD, did you learn them? In Holland at school are a lot of languages (9,37), Dutch, English, German, French, Latin, Greek, Chinese (note: 4 to take of which Dutch and English obliged).Next performances? Yes , on 8 and 9 of June the Classic is Great.(10,13) I love singing, it is my passion, however I have to finish school, because if my voice fails(?) I can study for lawyer, which is my passion as well. Interviewer: Well balanced.Amira closed the interview with a cheerful "Oh by the way, .....Classic will be good" (I listened that over and over again, futile.)

    Surprised to hear her speaking Afrikaans..(being Flemish Belgium.. Amira being from the Netherlands..having different dialects in their country as well as Belgium: (Flemish, French, German)..and again..even in between "those" languages."we don't" understand "fluently" each other in the SAME language spoken!)) For the Netherlands the same..(excluding French..but Denmark on the frontiers.. an other boost to have!) But still surprised to hear her Afrikaans.. (South-Africa) having as languages to speak almost fluently! It made me questioning about all "only" speaking "English" only.. How old is Amira here And what culture , language baggage does she always have ? Netherlands..some like Flemish.. even French, English, German, Greek,Latin..even a little Chinese!!! (Don't forget all dialects..for Netherlands similar languages..as Afrikaans.) This girl is someone to look UP! Not only by her voice..but in so many other ways! I'm stunned..you should be even..! What would she want again ..beside singing? Winning Olympic games ones ? She is great, intelligent, a talent..and still here self being. Singing..pff.;somewhere trying to copy UA-cam opera singers.. languages? Somewhere in between.. learning..being curious to understand..explain herself.. All by all ..she is an extreme personalty on her own. Simple and humble..but "great" in so many ways at the same time.. even growing to an "adult" time to spend today..tomorrow.. later..

    • @johanstreulens7639
      @johanstreulens7639 6 років тому

      But .. She isn't the "only" to discover..There a thousands, between us..your kid, maybe..future kid.. maybe.. Not having the chance to express themselves as "great" talents in what ever way! There are a lot to discover..giving them some "luck" to show the world how "great" they are! Not for themselves at the first place..but chairing what they have for others: "to believe in themselves too"..even not having a "stage" or "boost" to "climb" up.. ignored by
      OUR world in to politics, capitalism struggles. surviving at the end.. NOT seeing the talents of your own kids.. first!

      That would certainly be a better world, much like the one described in Nella Fantasia, but it seems that pure socialism (or even efforts toward that ideal) always break down in the administration, and those systems inevitably succumb to avarice, greed, and the lust for power. Perhaps all countries and governments eventually become fascist oligarchies in their substance or essence, no matter what form they may seem to take for their front-end user interface.................

    How awfully shortsighted and small minded of "Die Groot Ontbyt" to not even take the effort of placing some English subtitles.

      John, you are so right. I already commented this omission before, but it seems that TV and Radio stations (Groot Ontbijt, Afrikaans is Groot, Gelderland TV, ExpressoShow,) are confident that the job is done and don't even bother about the greater good for Amira. They think the automated captions will suffice, but in fact those translations are horrible most of the time, and hard to follow. I wish Amira's management will demand for English captions in future interviews.

      Wow , how awfully entitled to complain about someone talking in her native language . How dare she . Does she not know that others demand the right to dictate how she speaks , where she lives ,what she sings etc etc . Get over yourselves , accept that you are no different to other fans and leave her and her family alone to make the decision THEY want . Amira is not there for some to fund their own UA-cam channels . If you do not understand what is being said learn the language or find other posts in the language you want

      Wow Stefan that is a high strung reply.
      Might I add it may still have been relevant about 30 years back, but that was when the Berlin Wall and Apartheid were still present.
      (Both have now been safely consigned to the past as they should be)
      A backward looking attitude like this may have been appropriate in say 1988 perhaps yes, but not in 2018.
      The internet has changed the world and globalised even small villages so I am gobsmacked at your suggestion on asking fans to learn her native language!
      Sadly it takes a long time for attitudes to catch up with the realities of the modern world.

      Ray , that comment is so true and I am hopeful that any future releases of interviews will have English subtitles.
      Surely this is not a great ask in the age of global interconnectivity.
      Afrikaans is Groot-That title is strangely backward looking but might answer their response to your request to include English subtitles.

      John R so I take it you are one of the many who feel that you have a right to dictate how the parents of a 14 year old bring her up ? And that she should do every interview in a language you understand? Get a life
