The fund option seems interesting and the real estate in Algarve has held value so Portugal should be on the list.
Yeah I think as an additional option if someone's got the cash sitting around it's a nice low cost option.
Excellent analysis as always, Mike. Would you prefer to invest in a hotel project (€280k) or venture fund?
I think it depends on how much money you've got and what the opportunity cost is. As a general rule for myself personally I'd do the fund option but that being said it depends on your priorities
Would love to see a video on the aspects of leverage when investing in general but more specifically stocks. Margin loans, LVR, dangers etc.
There are also open-ended funds that are similar to mutual funds in the US. We chose one of those and it can be exited at any time.
Hi Mike, great video. I’m on the cusp of investing €350k into a fund, EQTY VS Stag CGA. Trying to focus on capital preservation and avoiding any VC investments which I see as high risk. It’s difficult to make decisions seeing that most of these new funds have no history, and we can only judge them based on the fund managers’ past history. Any suggestions here on how to pick them?
Investing in any "funds" based in Southern Europe sounds terrifying. Imagine investing in the Portuguese, Spanish, Italian or Greek stock indices over the last twenty years! I would have shot myself. All of these companies are "regulated". Doesn't make them good investments. Also, I understand that it would be very hard to exit these funds until they are dissolved - possibly harder than Portuguese real estate. Average take-home pay in Portugal is still around 10,000 € per year. While the country has some brilliant people, there's a reason "Portuguese wealth management" is not a household term. As much as I like the idea, the Golden Visa seems like a rip-off unless you are a $5M plus net worth individual and your only goal is to get EU citizenship without spending much time in a country. You can get residency there other ways for much cheaper if you want to live there and invest elsewhere taking advantage of the NHR program. Good luck to all and make wise decisions! Retirees should be advised that they can get a D7 visa with little hassle and not tie up significant amounts of capital in "investments". I would be interested to hear if anyone agrees with me on this...
One of solution is to open your own Portugal funds to achieve all this target and more. You only hire management team who comply with your politics of investment (win win situation). Control of Portugal funds are in your hands.
Can use some usefull model of how is structured an TRUST under beneficiary control.
Great vid. How are these funds taxed? Are these funds publicly traded? How can I see info on them?
This is a great option, thank you for explaining it. I know some people that could use it. If they contact you and retain your services, can you advise which funds to pick?
Question about buying property with the golden visa. Can I buy land and build a new home(total of 500,000 euros) , does that qualify as property?
@@MichaelRosmer No , he said the total of the land and the house is 500K . I’m one of your greatest fans
Excellent video. Could you share some of the funds that u are interested in that you would invest. Hope u can help as I have no experience for this due diligence on my own.
We can assist you pick a fund, as well as throughout the whole process. Feel free to reach out through our website offshorecitizen.net/
British subjects are going to find that Portuguese citizenship is one of their better prospects!
What are your insights on a 5 star hotel investment (as freehold property) in Lisbon, 20 year lease term, minimum 5% return for first five years? This would be for golden visa, it will cost about 30% of net worth; also being seen as passive income for nearing retirement, hopefully in Portugal.
The fund option has a deep trap. If your process gets delayed beyond the 6year fund horizon, which is almost sure to happen, you will not be qualified for Portugal presidency before you get permanent residency.
@@OffshoreCitizen I'm talking about the real personal experiences of me and many of my friends.
What do you think about Portugal HQA visa? It’s 175k, no minimum stay requirements.
Any thoughts on Ireland I have usa and Irish passport
3 to 5% is very low in my book.. many US REITS are over10% and pay monthly
Yes but they don't have capital appreciation at the back end and don't give a residency permit leading to citizenship
Can you do a video on Czech Republic? The 50-60% deduction thing they have
First 🏆
That made a ton of sense and that's where we want to spend at least some of our retirement years.
You're welcome, always a pleasure!
