Most men look good in a high an tight. You are not an exception you look good. :)
I'm a watchmaker and don't really have an interest in shoemaking other than an appreciation for your craft. You opened my eyes to all that entails. Thank you!
Try doing ebay finds and film your repairs. There are popular channels doing that.
So you work on watches
I'm a luthier and am here for the same reason. Craftsmanship is universally appreciated. I watch a lot of watch making channels as well, but I am a pretty big watch nerd
Another watchmaker here...who is about to redo a shoe and two pairs of boots...these guys are great!😊
I'm amazed by the amount of work that goes into making shoes! Such a craftsman profession!
They may not use "higher quality" techniques, but they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever purchased and I've had mine for several years and they still look amazing.
Wow! All the different tools during the upgrade-- amazing! Thanks for sharing!
You should do a “Vinted” or “DePop” series where you set a $10 budget for a pair of shoes to upgrade. I got a decent pair of dress shoes for £8 (almost new), obviously not fantastic build quality but I’d rather pay £8 than £85 (RRP) for pair of shoes that I’m not going to get years of wearing out of them.
However, it would be cool to see what you guys could do with them
I grew up wearing leather upper and leather soled shoes as did all my brothers and sister. When I started buying my own shoes, the shoe repairman in my small hometown told me when they started making faux stacked heels, they would cut corners everywhere else. He said the hard plastic core of a heel was ultra fatiguing to walk and stand on. Boy! Was he ever right! A real leather stacked heel has bounce and cushion and ‘give’ to it. You can wear them all day in comfort. Sad to see even formerly great brands are just krapoola. Great video and so interesting to learn!
Finally! A @jeansandsheux makeover. Please team these up with Firetrap bootcuts
I had to go back to the beginning of the video just to see what your hair looked like.
IMHO, I think your new cut looks really nice….and don’t even get me started on grey hair! 🐅Grrrrrr!
Did not know this about Cole Haan. The stitching really had me fooled!
Your hair looks good, the cut fits your face.
Trent, you know the old joke, the difference between a bad hair cut and a good hair cut is two weeks.
PS, Good job on the shoes. I hope someone wears them with pride.
somany shoes are made the same as these with glued on sole and heel...you made them a real upgrade and look awesome...enjoy watching you work..thanks
I love your new hair cut, it suites you
I wear a 13D and would be interested in purchasing a colorful do over. I own 65+ pairs of shoes but find myself defaulting to the same ones over and again. Thanks. I do enjoy the channel.
What if you wanted to remove the "welt" and add a gemming and Goodyear welt? I know the cost would be close to or more then a new pair of Goodyear welted shoes, but just curious.
Hi Trent. Awesome job on the Cole Haans. Like the navy blue soles. The only shoes I have by Cole Haan are some driving loafers and they've held up fairly well over time. I do have one question though. I am getting some of the Tobacco flip flops (can't wait ) and I was wondering if conditioning them before wearing them and on a regular basis after will help prevent my feet from staining the leather darker or is that just going to happen anyway regardless? It was never an issue with my dark brown ones. BTW imo the new haircut's lookin' good .👍👍
I'm not a dress slip on loafer wearing kind of guy but I gotta say those are some good looking shoes.
Great video. You mentioned this work may not be worth the cost [for a consumer] - what could a consumer expect to pay for work of this quality?
I hate being nosey. But how much were they new from factory, and how did you pay at goodwill, and what are they worth now? Great restore/customization!
Previous owner might want them back guys 😂 amazing again thanks ❤👍
Those came out great!! Question, do you have to change brushes when you change shoe color? One for black, one for brown….etc…
Actually the haircut suits you! Looks good, man!
Is that cork slurry how they make a birkinstock footbed?
I’ve noticed you guys switched from canned cork to bagged cork…Genuinely just curious if there is a difference / or reasoning?
Nice work!
Fascinating!
Your make overs always look great.
Your hair looks good👍
THIS WAS INFORMATIVE....WAS A FAN OF COLE-HAAN..WAS!(I'M SURE THAT GUY WANTS HIS SHOE'S BACK NOW🤪)
You still looking good 🎉🥳
I love watch you guys keep up the good work guys!! I might be purchasing a used pair of Allan Edmonds and ship it to you guys redo.
Great stuff!
just by looking, how can one tell if it is a welted shoe versus a look alike welt?
Great video. It was instructive and entertaining. The results are absolutely amazing. You really did bring a ho-hum pair shoes to the next level.
BTW, what size are the Cole Haan shoes, and how much are they?
Handsome hair cut.
Buy they are so comfortable.
Great video!
Your hair looks very nice
Whats the purpose of scraping the corners of souls? Roughly 10m14s in
Cole Haan made a fairly good pair of shoes in the early 80s; until most of our shoe manufacturers moved overseas, sacrificing quality for profit. I'm in my 70s and still have several pair of US made J&M and a few other brands; my challenge is finding a cobbler that I can trust with my prize possessions.
My maternal grandfather was a trained shoe repairman and he trained my father. I've seen most of these tools (not the fire, there was a lot more pounding/no pressure machine, they cut out cork) and generally had to tell people in the 90s that the shoes were not worth the cost of repair. I did some searches but 1) how much did these Haan loafers cost? 2) what did they sell for at Goodwill 3) what is cost of fixes you did 4) would most people consider that cost as fair? Also, rubber would wear longer than leather, wouldn't it?
what kind of glue do you use? hide?
Noticed the high and almost tight right off! What do you mean your hair's all over the place? It ended up on the shop floor! And yeah, I take that same attitude, it grows back. Except on top!
Very nice, what’s the cost?
Absolutely entertained!
Awesome…glad you enjoyed it!
Hair looks ok. The difference in a good and a bad cut is only two or three days.
I like 💕
That haircut actually looks extremely sharp!!! I think it suits you very well. It's sorta what I do with my own hair. I get a hard part that's shaved in though. I don't think your head looks like an egg at all. 🤷🏻♂️ We are our own worst critics. You look very handsome.
Cole Hahn are business casual shoes, that you’ll throw away in a couple of years. They’re great for what they are. I have some Allen Edmonds and Beckett Simonens that are dress shoes for when you’re trying to look polished, that I’ll have resolved and own for the rest of my life. If you buy Cole Hahn in a store for retail, you’re a sucker. They sell their shoes online at huge discounts. I rarely pay over 100 dollars for Cole Hahn, where I will pay three times as much for a quality shoe. I love my Cole Hahn shoes for what they are.
EVEN GOODWILL HAS SOME GOOD SHOES
Absolutely. One can find a 3 piece suit that's nearly a correct fit for very cheap, and then spend a bit at a tailor to have it fitted properly the rest of the way. You'll end up with a high dollar 3 piece that was under $200 and looks sharp as a razor. 😺 The big thing is knowing where to look and having persistence. Go to the Goodwills and thrift shops in the foofoo and rich areas of your city. You're more likely to find a high dollar suit and shoes at a Goodwill there where a rich grandpa kicked the bucket and his kids took his whole closet of stuff to a donation center when emptying out his residence because they had no idea what it all was or just couldn't care less about its value. 🤷🏻♂️
Curious about the corking process. Does the heating device somehow “set” or solidify the cork in place? Can you apply the cork without heating it? I have to admit, it’s my favorite part of the process!
I think the heating mainly makes it easier and quicker to spread. Another UA-cam cobbler, Dan (whose channel, Tring Shoe Repairs, I also enjoy watching), doesn't have one of those heating irons. So he instead slowly and carefully adds little bits at a time of the cork filler with his hands until the space is filled up.
Yeah, the heat iron makes it much easier to spread the cork around, as the cork is very sticky.
Hey Trenton and Heath, Cole Han fan here. Trust me when I tell you I am a die hard fanatic for Blake or Goodyear welts (real ones )however, we Nike Cole Han Fans like the shoe because They do best at BEING SNEAKERS DISGUISED AS DRESS SHOES.and are Best for inclement weather, and you can still look sharp. That is the only reason why I like them anyway. And I suspect that anyone else who are into classic men wear would feel the same. No they are not a real shoe and nor are they supposed to be. they are only supposed to look like a real shoe and they do this really well. so when you take them and actually turn them into real shoes, you defeat the purpose of them and now those aren’t gonna be worn in the rain
Someone gets a chance to walk tall in those loafers
did you say ceement?
That gratuitous cork scene, tho! 🥴
The hot iron smoke Always makes me think your lung problems were not found to be cobbler related
Wow incredible work as always! I’m sure the guy who donated these is wishing he could have them back now 😂
😁 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
It's truly a pleasure to see a craftsman doing meticulous work.
I've learned a lot about how to care for my shoes by watching your videos. Thanks and keep up the good work!
I would love to spend a day at your shop watching you guys work! True artists!
Thanks so much! Feel free to stop by in you’re ever in the area.
@@TrentonHeath Thats really kool to invite a subscribe to stop by...
You missed putting the stamped circles on one of the soles
Those turned out pretty cool! Have you guys ever considered selling your own line of modified/improved shoes?
Can you start a series about good will finds? I like the idea of finding a good pair of boots at good will for a good price.
I found some very new looking Thursday boots for like 26 dollars. I love them!
@@angelbenitez2658 very nice. I've been going here and there and haven't found anything yet
@@altri5842 go to the thrift stores closest to the wealthy areas of town. there you're more like likely to find quality.
@@Cberk03 Ya this is my personal thrift store life hack so to speak. I live in an area that straddles a more wealthy community and a working class community with Goodwills and other thrift stores dotted throughout. Its worth the extra 20min drive for the kindve awesome finds you get donated from the old money and rich Microsoft/tech bro workers in that area.
at GoodWill online auction I found a very cheap pair of Allen-Alden high quality leather dress shoes that wee completely unmarked and hardly even worn at all. Some men have their wife donate an item to Goodwill because they wanted brown and not black, for instance....
"It's hair. It'll grow back."
*me:* frowns in bald.
Seriously, though: Apart from the lackluster construction, these are not even "good looking" shoes to begin with , just like most Cole Haans, actually. It boggles the mind they seem to have such a customer base to be that widespread. You certainly made the most out of them and gave them a severe upgrade. Always a pleasure seeing you guys and your craftsmanship in action.
I thought the same thing. I’m missing some on the top myself 😢
The guys who have a good head and scalp for the bald look can rock it really well. OTOH, there's always minoxidile and transplants. 🤷🏻♂️ Just don't do the former if you have cats. It's super toxic for them. :( Transplants are the gold standard if you have some follicles that are viable. But...embrace the bald look with a stylish beard that complements the way your face is shaped. :)
Love to see old things restored. Had no idea there were cobblers these days and I'd love to hear how you came to be one😊
Smelly old shoes
Its a dying trade because for most its not worth the cost to restore shoes. Im guessing service like this is easily 150+. On shoes that are under 500, doesn't make sense.
One of the biggest "bangs for your buck" is conditioner. Too bad more people don't use it. Anyway, I enjoyed watching you transform these shoes, and thought the blue sole was a great touch!
Incredible job Trent. Nice touch with the blue soles as well, it really adds class. Sadly, the restoration needed probably took them back to the way CH shoes were originally made. And, at first glance when Heath opened that Factor meal I thought it was the cork. Any one else?? 🙂
👋🏼 Thank you for keeping your trade alive!
Haircut looks good. Shoes look good. Great job!
Thank you!
I have a Cole Haan with that same kinda sole......just disintegrated when I was using it after 2 years in the cabinet.....watching your channel inspired me to re-sole it rather than just chuck it.....bought Vibram soles....had it resoled and it's a 100 times better than my old one....safe to say won't be buying Cole Haan's anymore.....they were actually my shoe of choice during the late 80's and 90's.....how sad that their quality has suffered
I have before and after pics if you are interested,...from the Philippines here......love your channel...
Never buy used shoes from goodwill as they often belonged to a deceased man , Really bad luck . Good work but don't wear them .
My favorite part is applying the cork. Love the shoe.
Fake stitching or genuine good year welt, there seems to be a lot of gluing involved any way, I wonder how they did it before modern adhesives were invented?
Awesome job, guys! Can one imagine getting a pair of shoes like this back? 1,000 percent improvement in quality!
I bought a pair of ladies Cole Han loafers. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Not made well at all.
what kind of leather conditioner would you suggest?
Thirty years ago Cole Hahn made good shoes and I had a nice pair of tasseled loafers that I resoled a couple of times.
Basically, how Cole Haan used to be made decades ago.....
Basically what I learned when I started my Leather Craft Hobby....
Contact Cement = Permanent (Mostly)
Rubber Cement + Long time but able to be removed without damaging the leather.
Trent you never disappoint. Absolutely love the resole. Have a great weekend. 👍
Thanks so much! We always appreciate you watching and commenting!
What is considered high end shoes? What price range?
I noticed the doods glorious looking beard.
I immediately saw the haircut and I think it actually suits you better than the previous one. Makes you look thinner, thus younger. Maybe a slightly less aggressive fade on your right side would be better next time though ;)
Thanks, I really appreciate the input! 👍
I'm not a shoe expert by no means, but is there a reason the bottom of the right shoe gets circles at the ends of the stitching and the left one doesn't? Love your work btw!
Yes… my wife wants to know this as well… 😊
These “what if” videos are fun, I appreciate your effort. I see these and others (Stacy Adams) often at Goodwill; many of them look good but you can tell their construction is like the one you tore apart so I pass. That said, I often see vintage Florsheim, Allen Edmonds, J & M, Aldens and Edward Greens at the two Goodwills near me. Almost all need a little reconditioning and new soles and they’re back in the game. Sadly, with the exception of two AE’s none were my size. None of these pairs of shoes were more that $19 ea. Have seen more awkward egg-heads so you’re good man!
A year ago I bought a pair of dress from Goodwill for about 12 dollars. I took them to a shoe cobbler . For 24 dollars he put new heel and taps. Then he polished and put new laces in. Turn out great I found the identical pair on eBay for 200 dollars . So I can relate to this video totally.
Cole Haan shoes today are not what they were in the 80 or 90’s. which were made in Italy. They are made in China today.
Have you guys ever worked on Stacy Adams dress shoes? If so what did you think about the construction. I only ask because I had a pair of leather and snake skin Stacy Adams about 15yrs ago and i thought they were awesome, lol.
Geez they look amazing guys!!! Great Job!!!
SEE-ment
I love the blue🔵 on the soles.
If I bought a new pair and wanted to dye the soles does it need to be a whole new replacement or could the current soles be dyed. Also how often should you wax the soles does it make them slick to walk on?
I stumbled across a channel on TikTok where they break down leather goods, tell you how much leather is in it, what kind it is, how much it would cost to buy the materials, how much to make, and then basically a "is it worth it" type question. So when I started watching this, I was like GEE, I WONDER IF THESE DUDES LOOK AT CERTAIN SHOES AND GO 'NAH, WOULDN'T BUY THOSE' and then you answered that in the first minute. And I think that one of the things that I had seen that channel break down was Cole Haans.
Hi Trent,
we're gonna ripp Heath's pair of shoes apart......
we're gonna make Heath eat the microwaved food .....
should we call him Beaker ? 😂
Best Regards
Harald
Great . Blessings .
I was visiting NYC one year and sure enough I came back to my Honda and it was stolen. Filed a police report and it was found up on blocks so I went there to retrieve any items I could but all that was left was a pair of my favorite Cole Hahn loafers. Now I know why....
That's my brand of shoe. I wear Cole Haans, Eccos, Clarks, Vans, and Nikes. Most Cole Haans are made better than that pair.
The stitch on the sole is not "just for decorative purposes". It is there because Cole Haan wants to trick the buyer into believing this is a Goodyear welted shoe. As of course it is not, it is a FRAUD.
The upgrades that you performed are the way the factory should have built the shoes.
From personal experience, I'm not complaining about Cole Haan loafers I owned. They were stylish, good looking, lightweight, pleasant to wear. They were non-repairable - but they were cheap. They don't last for a century - nor do I. It was good trade-off. My only regret is I wasn't able to find the same model after two years, I wish I bought extra pair.
Decorative purposes UNDER the shoe? WTF. Where are we going with this world.
Homie, been watching you for years. I’m a straight man, so no, nothing against gay peeps ( my daughter is gay and I support her 100 trillion percent) but you’re a freaking handsome man, and any women (or man) would be glad to even catch your attention
I just dropped a pair of CH split toes I bought back in "97 with my local cobbler. Whoa, after having watching this channel for awhile I was so surprised at the lack of quality in the soles and heels. But these dang shoes are so comfy I was willing to at least having them looked at for repair. Luckily the cobbler said he can work his mojo at a relatively decent cost. So my question to the T&H boys, we know sole/heels, are junk but what's your take on the quality of the leather on these older CH's?
