- this week, I present to you some American TV presentation that's actually...Good. Crafted with American pride (for real this time); station IDs plus more (a few closing logos from the PBS-type stations as well). Hope you enjoy!
I do not own any of the station IDs in this compilation. They uploaded them to UA-cam first...not me!

Affiliations today:
WWOR-TV - Went to its UPN affiliate in 1995, and became an MyNetworkTV affiliate in 2006.
WPIX-TV - Went to its The WB affiliate in 1995, and became an The CW affiliate in 2006.
WTHR-TV - Still NBC.
WPXI-TV - Still NBC.
KCOP-TV - Became an UPN affiliate in 1995, and moved into MyTV's affiliate in 2006. NOTE: I call MyTV "C More".
SuperStation WTBS (now TBS) - Still Independent.
KBTV - Changed its name into "KUSA" and became an NBC affiliate.
WLVI-TV - Became an The WB affiliate in 1995 and became an The CW affiliate in 2006.
KRBK-TV (Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto, K51BP-CD in Palermo) - Became KPWB in 1995, and became KMAX in 1998.
Mississippi ETV - Still PBS.
KTLA-TV - Became an The WB affiliate in 1995, Became an The CW affiliate in 2006.
GBH - Still PBS.
WJLA-TV - Still ABC.
WSNS-TV - Became its Telemundo affiliate.
WFSB-TV - Still CBS.
WCVB-TV - It's still ABC.
KERA-TV - It's still PBS.
WCIX-TV - WCIX was still an Independent station, and became an CBS-owned station in 1989; it was also Miami's original FOX affiliate until this network moved to WSVN in 1989.
WNED-TV - It's stupendously still PBS.
KCET-TV - It's stupendously still PBS.
WSBK-TV - In January 16, 1995, The Independent affiliates might go in to UPN affiliates. From September 2006, It went into C More affiliates. WSBK-TV went to its UPN affiliate in 15 January 1995. Sadly, It went to its C More affiliate in 2006. In the late 2000s, it was affiliated with Independent again. Until then, It went back to the C More affiliate.
WNEW-TV - Changed its name "WNYW" in 1986 and became a FOX affiliate.
KTTV-TV - Became a FOX affiliate in 1986.
WTOP-TV - WTOP-TV changed its name into "WUSA".
WBNS-TV - It's no average still CBS.
KSNW-TV (From the KSN) - Still NBC.
WGRZ-TV - Still NBC.
WXXA-TV - Still FOX.
KADN-TV - Still FOX.
WPMT-TV - Still FOX.
KMSP-TV - Became an UPN affiliate in 1999, and became an FOX affiliate in 2002.
KTCA-TV - Still PBS.
WNDS-TV - Renamed into "WZMY" in 2005 and became an C More affiliate in 2006. It renamed into "WBIN-TV". In 2019, It became an Justice Network affiliate. In 2020, Justice Network was renamed into "True Crime Network". Now WWJE.
WGNO-TV - Became an ABC affiliate.
WGBS-TV - Renamed into "WPSG-TV" in 1995 and became an UPN affiliate. In 2006, It became an The CW affiliate. They had an ident called "WPSG: CW 57 Makeover". Video link: ua-cam.com/video/Cwjz4Ot0foc/v-deo.html
KVVU-TV - Became an FOX affiliate in 1986.
KOVR-TV - Became an CBS affiliate in 1995, swapping with KXTV; KOVR has been an CBS-owned station since 2005.
Two corrections...KOVR Sacramento became a CBS affiliate in 1995, swapping with KXTV; KOVR has been a CBS-owned station since 2005. Also, WCIX Miami (at that time of that station ID you posted) was still an independent station, and became a CBS-owned station in 1989; it was also Miami's original Fox affiliate until that network moved to WSVN in 1989.
Always loved the Gannett death star... especially for KPNX-TV Mesa/Phoenix.
1:47 That has to be the best TV announcer voice I have ever heard.
4:36 always seemed so surreal to me with that haunting "eleven...eleven....eleven" out of nowhere, such a strange way to end a jingle

The Mississippi ETV ident was ahead of its time in 1978! Those 3D computer graphics must have been state of the art.
That felt like a pun just because of the fact the Mississippi etv's market was all of Mississippi.
As soon as I saw the smooth, surreal animation on that 9 I knew I was in for something good :)
6:14 - Almost sounds like someone playing the "V of Doom" theme on the organ with extra sound effects added in.
LARDLOGO -actually, that was from a sign off (it has been shown more in depth in another compilation) as those were THE COLOR BARS at the end to go off-the-air.
I can't believe Channel 13 (Los Angeles) had some really good ones in the 80s. Look what it has today compared to then. Wow

3:01, that circular 7 logo really looks like Seven Network (Australia)'s logo in the 90s
It's because Seven Network Australia's 1989 logo was actually based on that WJLA-TV logo

For those of you watching in late 2020 onwards, yes, I was stupid at the time and thought every TV station had a -TV suffix. Whoops.

Actually I think it's cool when -TV/-FM suffixes and the AM- prefix are added, keeps it classy

1:09 WTHR in Indianapolis back in 1976 was an ABC affiliate at the time, prior becoming an NBC affiliates in 1979.

As a UK viewer, I appreciate the large variety of different local stations and their fascinating computer graphics. We have did have some regional itv companies in the past and their logos were pretty great but the variety wasn’t to the same extent
I’m pretty sure 2:44 is the direct inspiration for Tim and Eric’s Channel 5 logo...
The KTCA Minneapolis sign-off with the colored blocks forming into the test pattern was awesome! I think a station in Seattle did the same thing. Also something I remember from my childhood but have never really found a good video of online so far is WSAW 7 in Wausau, Wisconsin, up until at least the mid-80's they mainly used drawings of their mascot, a knight named Sir Seven, enjoying various outdoor activities, many of which would be impractical to do in a suit of armor in real life such as canoeing and hang gliding. I hope footage of these shows up sometime, because they're something you really should see.

I'm actually quite interested about your channel, and that's coming from someone who's learning graphic design right now. Logos from SkyCorp and also yours have inspired me so much that I wanted to do similar logos, but I feel like the way I have planned to animate the logos aren't well executed. Do you ever plan on making a video that provides tips for making these good logos?
for now, I will give you this; remember that the aesthetic of the 80s is much much much more than glowing grids and rainbows and palm trees and shit; I don't think I've seen any logo with those included. just look around at 80s/90s TV/home video presentation and apply that to whatever you want to make. try to add your own touch. what software do you use?
@@NoEntertainment Whenever I'm not working too much on assigned projects, I fiddle around on After Effects and Blender, but that's only when I'm in class since I don't actually have AE for home.

The WGRZ ID has a kick-ass news theme to go with it, if anybody is interested. One of my favorite news themes of all time.

KVVU TV 5 Hennnnnderson & Laaaaaaaaaaaaaas Vegas!
KERA is my station! Their recent logo for KERA Kids is awful....kinda.
Also, KOVR was a victim of the 1995 affiliate shuffle. It’s now a CBS station, swapping with KXTV 10.
WGRZ's current slogan is 'On Your Side'.(especially used during the news). It is currently a Tegna run station.
That wgbh logo is smexy it’s a childhood favorite and by that I mean I used to see it on zoom the 90s version as a kid although it’s the edited version of the logo

One quibble. WJLA was ABC, not CBS. Channel 7 has always been ABC here. That said, nice seeing that again!

Used to live in the Sacramento area, the station formerly known as KRBK is now a CW (formerly UPN) affiliate. In most markets, the WB affiliate became a CW affiliate in 2006. Sacramento had it backwards.

I grew up watching WNEW, WOR, and WPIX in New York but I think all those logos came from after I'd moved to Philadelphia
It's almost too bad that KBTV isn't in Denver anymore. It would be wild if KBTV and KCNC were in Denver the way WBTV and WCNC are in Charlotte.

Shout-outs go to Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Miami, Las Vegas, and Buffalo for having no logos on the bad list and only logos on the good list (not that no bad logos/idents from those cities exist). They seem to have the best track record when it comes to IDs.
I, in particular, know that Atlanta is also a media hub so they even have non-ID logos, most of which are pretty good too (all the various logos from Turner-owned networks come to mind).
As for Chicago, they seem to have a really good track record with graphic design in general, creating one of the few decent city flags for themselves.
And when it comes to Vegas, well, it's a city of excess, and flashing lights all over, so how does that translate into logos? Well, they're flashy, like Vegas itself, and pretty cool to boot.
I'm just surprised Buffalo has this many good IDs. They really got their A-game in the logo department.

The ID at 6:00 is not original. WFTC used this same ID but with different music.
I know it's not. but it's because of this version's music that I like it: that was a station for a very small market. It wasn't uncommon for a larger market TV station to get an ident like that, music from the original producers of the national ID and all. I just thought that was interesting. sorry if this sounds unclear

Well, I was expecting it to be 7 minutes, & it is, almost to 8. I honestly think the reason why these look good is because of 2 reasons:
1. They were most likely experienced for this kind of stuff, & now they knew what to do.
Or
2. They outsourced it to somewhere else for some other person(or people if it ain't just one person making the logo) to do it for them as doing it in-house would result in the ID looking like crap.
Though I most believe about 90% of these probably had their animation outsourced to somewhere else(most likely somewhere in Southeast Asia).
I can say most of these were done by some sort of animation graphics studio, yes, but these were all made in America

@@NoEntertainment Yup. Gray announced a 2.7 billion dollar acquisition plan for Meredith. Gray is notorious for having really cheap graphics, so I HOPE TO GOD that they retain Meredith's Nashville hub. The main reason for the acquisition is Meredith's #1 ranked stations (like WFSB) and WGCL in Atlanta (which will become Gray's flagship). They will have to sell former Disney station WJRT in Flint in order to acquire WNEM, Meredith's higher ranked CBS affiliate there.
WFSB has been not doing well since last year so I mean if Gray does acquire them it doesn't matter. WVIT will probably take over the ratings
