Just started playing banjo a couple of weeks ago and my goal was to learn this song. Watched through this video and got it (at 1/2 speed). Great video. I will be watching them all! Thank you so much for making these! Your method of teaching stuff slowly and providing tabs seems to be the most efficient way to learn by far.
I love this lesson and am wondering why they would bother retuning the b string? I don't think it makes playing the tune any easier. Is there a reason for this? Thanks for another great lesson, now I'm going to play it a hundred times or so.
Because the melody has a Bb and a C but not a B. If the second string were still a B you'd either have to fret it constantly or make 100% sure never to mistakenly play the open B string. Retuning the B string up to C means you can play open 2nd string as a melody note.
