Thanks for watching and reaching out. Basic tools are needed besides a lot of muscle. Clip removal tool, dykes, and basic socket set 3/8 drive would help. If you have a battery operated gun even better.
Hi Brother, my radiator on a 2016 freightliner cascadia broke today and I was watching your video to replace it and at the end you mentioned that we must do a pressure test. How can I do that? Thanks for the video , it is very helpful
Thanks for watching and reaching out. The pressure test I was talking about was with a cooling system pressure tester. An attachment to the coolant reservoir to put the system under pressure. Works best as you can regulate the amount of pressure needed for certain leaks. If that’s not feasible than a regen will certainly build up system pressure to.
Hey man. I just replaced my radiator on my 2018 Cascadia . The old radiator had the two “cooling” lines that run all the way back to the tranny. My question is is it really necessary to put them back on? Mines 10sp does it matter if I don’t reinstall them?
Hello, one of the truck has no coolant leak seeing anywhere , but the coolant keep missing , do you know what is the issue causing the problem? Please let me know, thank you ( freightliner cascadia 2017)
How are you mr , I have one question I change the coolant contenine after market and I noticed the big hose itself in espanish se chupa cold and after a few minutes hot do too thanks good day
Nice camera work with this one. Not too far not too close. Just right. I plan to be a mobile mechanic, so for this job I have 2 questions., would it be smart and possible to use some sort of engine hoist to remove the radiator and the actual hood? For draining the coolant, is there any tricks to draining it without spills?
Thanks for watching and reaching out. You gta get creative for the hoods. We use cherry pickers with a chain, forklift with a chain, and the old three people carry off method. As for draining the coolant if you mean from the radiator it shouldn’t be making a mess if you have a container directly under that drain plug. If you mean from the block I use a hose on that outlet nipple to a container.
Haha. I’ll keep that 3 old guy method in mind. Yes! The cherry picker with chain and hose to container is exactly what I’ll use. Thank you for that info!
Good idea man, but I’m really not sure how much people would care to see the person behind the big screen. Summertime is probably when you want to avoid phx haha. I think yesterday was 115
Great question. And to answer simply. Quite a bit will come out. It’ll keep leaking intill the level drops lower than the EGR cooler. Maybe 2 or 3 gallons.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 I'm not sure if my banjo bolt or the union is leaking. So I ordered both. Will that leak be high pressure to where I should drain something first, or is it a slow leak to where I can put rags on every thing to catch it since the bolt will be right in and right out. Thanks for your response. I have watched all your videos and always hit the like button.
@@makincash3337 appreciate the support. I would either put the system under a vaccum or if your not able to than drain some. It would leak out pretty good.
Do you need to bleed air out of the cooling system on these semi's? I've been a trailer mechanic for four years now and I'm picking up truck work on the side.
Great question, and yes definitely purge all air out of the cooling system. If not the weak link in the systems could be compromised. Most likely the EGR coolers. Cummins is most susceptible to those failures due to air in the system. Congrats on the side work. Hope it pays off.
Hey you have good attitude really positive and you are a great mechanic I'm at the frightliner i had a coolant leak earlier and I'm waiting to get in the shop to see where the leak is coming from 2 weeks ago my had a leak and I had to replace it but then today I had another coolant leak I'm hoping it's not the radiator they told me the OEM is like $2,400 and the aftermarket Alliance brand is $1,100 I really need a reliable mechanic coming to freightliner is getting to expensive can you be my mechanic?
Thanks for positive comments. Seems like online chatter is always negative crap. So makes a good change. Sumer time is the time for cooling systems to be put under the most pressure. So they’ll always find the weakest point of exist. I’m doing 3 radiators back to back as we speak. And yes they are crazy $$$. I actually work for a dealer group so I can under stand how pricey they can be. But if your looking to try another we’ll always take you at ours
@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 which location are you at and would there be any way that i could request for you to work on my truck ? Btw thank you for the response and information
Wouldn't happen if these cheap chinese made plastic and aluminum radiators were still made out of copper and brass that freightliner is charging a premium for
Great question. Expect about 6 hrs of whatever the door rate is and about $1600 of you want the oem radiator. There are cheaper options but you would usually have to build the bracketry on them.
Thank you so much for your thorough explanation!!! Great job!
Always appreciate the positive feedback. Thanks for taking the time watching my vids. Hopefully more than just this one.
Great video. Through explained. Good idea to remove the hood as well. Less struggle.
Thanks for the awesome job. I recommend everyone to you
I appreciate that positive feedback. Can’t do it without support from viewers like your self. Stay safe out there.
Double dipping on that ac condenser. I can see charging to recharge but not 3 hours labor to replace once its already out
Awesome video very detailed I learned a lot from this I just wanted to know what tools do you need to complete this job start to finish ?

Great video!! Please more videos!
I just done mine a week ago without taking the hood off… we come thru the passenger side

Great video. Thank you
You nailed it bro very detailed video thank you!!
Appreciate the positive feedback man. Thanks for watching and your support
I have a 2018 cascadia. I have 1 went bad big hole now I'm at freightliner again get it fix 3 year later. Had to get tow an everything
I would say 500k out of a radiator is a good enough. They withstand alot of abuse.
Love your videos bro keep it up!
Good looking out big dog. Thanks for consistently watching
2Pac You gotta keep ya head ⬆️!
Good tutorials videos thanks

Perfect Video!
great video ,kind wondering what kind of pressure tester are you using ?
My pressure tester can be found on Amazon or eBay. This particular one came from a Matco dealer.
Can you tell me how much fluid will come out when I open the banjo bolt on the egr cooler?

How many hours do they give you to do a radiator?
Around 7 hr is around what a Cust pay radiator will pay. Application access will change things.
Do you have to bleed the system out?
Any Eng, it is always best to run the air out of the system. If not little bubbles will destroy seals and EGR coolers.
Hi where you guys located?
How many hours does a radiator pay?
Figure about 7 hrs. Radiator. Hoses replacement. And coolant drain and fill. Can be more depending on access issues.
Im a mechanic 24/7 like a doctor
Damn we’re twinsies now. Is there a dr in the house.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 yes, thanks for sharing your experience!
Anything to help 😀
Where are you located?
I’m out in Az but don’t have a shop I can put on here.
Nevermind about the comment on the Transmission lines my bad I guess I should've watched the whole video first
You didn't say how to bleed the cooling line.
Detroits don’t have a coolant bleed line. Cummins does have one. But to get the air out running the unit till the thermostat opens would be best.
You forgot step 1, eat your wheaties!!
I thought step one was coffee, can’t clock in without that.
You forgot to show how to disconnect the Oil lines that goes to the Transmission
Thanks for watching,, this one didn’t have an external trans cooler so no lines to disconnect.

These radiators are poor design they usually blow out the tanks in 6-12 months.
Plastic ,excessive heat, and never Cooling system maintenance. Never seemed liked they were gna last to me.
How much is it for the job?

@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thank you. Nice job 👏 👍
All this plastic stuff is always failing.
I think that’s the plan. Cheaper to the customer and guaranteed job security for the dealers.
You have to stop yell over the truck engine and do voice overs l. Bruuhhhhh
