Absolutely normal buddy. The south Pacific is full of them. Big gnarly red ones with spines like 2 ft long. Still got a few in my foot from 2 weeks ago.

That spot is so sick cos it breaks in a variety of swells. One day it could be a long freight train lefthander, another day it's a perfect a-frame, and another day it's a full on wedge. The end sections are nuts though.
