      Seachem excel suggests the higher dosage on the first dose of the week after the water change at the end of the week. You make your water change Sunday for example and let the tank rest for that day. On monday you start dosing again. Rinse and repeat every week, bigger dose monday, regular doses the rest of the week, water change on sunday, monday back to square one.

    • @JesemanuelRamirez
      @JesemanuelRamirez  3 роки тому +1

      Hello Amir, thanks for asking. The spreadsheet I made will help you dose seachem excel according to the recommended amount from the manufacturer. They recommend dosing 6 days of the week and the amount is dependent on the volume of water your aquarium has. You can use or copy the Google Sheet I linked in the video description so you can determine how much Excel you need for you aquarium.

    • @krlost4405
      @krlost4405 3 роки тому

      5 ml per 50 US gallons (189L) per day, unless starting a new aquarium which will require more. Do not overdose; for this product is better fall short than exceed or it may kill. Use rule of three to get amount for your aquarium volume (real water volume after deducting substrate, hardscape, etc. and not just tank size).

    Hey Mate, thanks so much for the spreadsheets, this is exactly what I was looking for, to confirm, by day 1 you mean Monday and day 2 Tuesday etc until day 7 Sunday right ? also on day 7 what do you mean by as necessary by the buffers ? do you do those after the water change ? what are the amounts as they are not on the spreadsheet, thanks

    • @JesemanuelRamirez
      @JesemanuelRamirez  5 місяців тому

      Hello there, day one can be any day of the week, Seachem works on a 7 day cycle. So you can assign day one to any day, it would mostly depend on how your week looks for you and what days you can dedicate certain tasks like water changes.
      With regards to the buffers, the dosage depends on the water parameters in your area, it’s usually a standard 7-7.5 already but I’ve seen people with 8.0 and higher in their tap water. Also it would depend on what plants, fish or invertebrates you have in the tank. Not everything prefer the same acidity or alkalinity in the water. That’s mainly why I don’t have a calculation for the buffers.

      Hey thanks for your reply! I've started this hobby this week and filled tank on Sunday, added stability and prime to start with and will be adding fertilizers next week, just to clarify, do spreadsheets take in consideration co 2 injection ? as my tank will not have co2, at least for now, can I still use the spreadsheets without using co 2 ?@@JesemanuelRamirez

    • @JesemanuelRamirez
      @JesemanuelRamirez  5 місяців тому

      @@lukeborg9523 yes, co2 will only aid the plants in using the fertilizers. The spreadsheet only addresses the use of the Seachem products as stated on the packaging. So how much co2 you need and how it affects the tank is out of the scope of the spreadsheet. I will advise you have a co2 meter in the tank, (typically it’s a color changing liquid in a artsy glass container that you stick to the glass inside the aquarium) since it can wipe out everything if it too high.

    I need some advice. Just started to use seachem prime, stability, matrix and pristine in my 10L tank for betta fish. pH has always been around 6.5-7. However, noticed that pH is 5.6 today, do not understand what could have caused this. 50% water change done every 5days but filter sponge not changed. I opened up my filter and it has a very strong chemical smell of matrix and filter sponge is dirty.However, I understand from the seachem website that these products do not alter pH. Appreciate some pointers.

    • @JesemanuelRamirez
      @JesemanuelRamirez  2 роки тому

      Hmmm to be honest I don't really know what could lower your pH in this case. PH can lower do to decomposing organic matter. Also 2 gallons is a small aquarium for a Betta, I can't recommend enough a bigger aquarium. I know not everyone has the space, which is why they get small aquariums, but a ~40L aquarium would be much better for the fish and easier to control the parameters as well. One missed food pellet in a 10L has a bigger impact than in a big aquarium.
      With regards to the sponge filter, how are you cleaning it? I would suggest that you don't wash it under running tap water or try to get it super clean either. Take the water you're changing out of the tank to agitate the sponge in, to remove the debris in it.
      Besides that, check your water source, to check if any fluctuations occurred on that end. Hope that helps.

    Hi Jese! You simply the best, sincerely thank you and much appreciated for this 💯💯💯🤜🤛. May I ask, can i start with the dosing regime from day 1? And what's the best ph, kh and gh level for planted tank? Thank you in advance.

    • @JesemanuelRamirez
      @JesemanuelRamirez  2 роки тому +1

      Hey no problem! With regards to ph it really depends on the plants you plan on having in your aqua scape, there are plants that will melt in acidic and others in alkaline water. Some plants need low hardness levels and others won’t really grow if your water is too soft. It’s best to research where the plants you have/want are originated. That will give you a better understanding of what you need.
      On the matter of wether to start from day one I would say yes, but I don’t know what you are using as substrate. If you are only using gravel then yes.
      Hope this helps! And have fun with the hobby.

      Well the sheet is not made to account for every single scenario. We don’t all have the same plants or load of plants, and not all plants take up the same amount of nutrients all the time, so you’ll always have to adapt depending on your specific needs.
      The sheet is meant to make the Seachem chart easier to follow and to make a quick chart to use as specified by Seachem for their products, depending exclusively on your aquarium size and volume. If you have the specifics on how much your plants consume Nitrogen, and you can quantify it, then you can adapt the chart to your plants needs. You can download the chart and modify it to fit your model as you wish.

      But yea you're spot on, basically if you're not using a canister filter, you use an undergravel filter with an air stone to create a plenum so water can _slowly_ flow *through* the substrate, preventing anaerobic pockets, and with a substrate of baked clay Kitty litter, (because of the high surface area and crystaline structure attracting the NH4 ions) and Laterite [maybe Flourite too] (because an iron source is important for the dimorphic bacteria that removes *nitrates* to colonize).
      So yea basically by creating the anoxic conditions and providing the iron source for the dimorphic bacteria you removes nitrates as the water *slowly* passes through the substrate, and by utilizing the functionality of "magnetic permeability" of the kitty litter/laterite, the positively charged NH4+ ions (ammonia) are drawn out of the water more efficiently. Or at least that's my understanding, although Dr. Kevin Novak has lots of resources on it. Anecdotally Dr. Novak has some pretty crazy bioloads in some of his tanks / pond with exactly 0 nitrate (with professional grade kit, not a hobbies kit), and even people in the comment section will mention hardly having to do water changes after adopting it. It sounds wayyy more complicated than it is in practice, and in reality it's probably not particularly useful for low stocked aquascaping tanks if you're not having algae issues

      @@VinylUnboxings yes, I'm looking into it and I could do it in the canister too, I still have a spare basket that I'm not using. The thing with kitty litter is finding one that doesn't have anything that we don't need that won't cause any adverse effect to the aquarium, like perfumes or other chemicals for clumping and such. I'm pretty sure it's not very hard. Just have to be careful.
      When looking at this it also reminded me of Zeolite clay. There are manufacturers that already made products for aquariums. And it is very similar... when you read the filtering characteristics of it, maybe take a look at it. There is a caveat, non of these filters are forever, and Zeolite can be dangerous if you forget to take it out if you add salt to the aquarium, it may discharges or let's go of the ammonia it has or stops absorbing/attracting it.
      Either way it's interesting. I'm going to see if I can implement it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I was looking at Zeolite clay but this cloud be another alternative.

      @@trudeaumustgo1920 true, but the lack or incorrect levels of CO2 will make it harder for plants to take in and make use of the fertilizers, where algae don't really need all that much to make use of them. So yes, co2 levels out of whack would be a cause for algae, but it would be because the plants cant make use of the fertilizers in the water or take more in, therefore there would be an imbalance of fertilizers to co2 levels. It all has to be in balance. That's not to say that algae is a bad thing, they are extremely necessary for a healthy aquarium, there are people that have algae scrubbers in their sumps, in order to take the hit of the imbalance, be it from low or high CO2 levels or an overdose of fertilizer for the co2 levels in the aquarium.
