Lynn Roark imagine how others like Ben folds who knew him better than most feel, I love Ben and Elliott equally but it's sad knowing that Elliott in a rather short time has done what me folds has yet to achieve. a true cult following.
Oh my god as soon as this began I was just knocked sideways. What a gorgeous version. One of my favorite Elliott songs, I can listen to it over and over... even in his most heartbreaking songs his voice is so soothing and intimate.
I feel like he sounds extremely sad in this version, you can definitely hear it in his voice its like he is on the verge of tears. I love Elliott Smith, I named one of my kittens after him.
Favorite Elliott live song ever . So raw and beautifully off key a little bit. The guitar is striking and he plays it perfectly. I love this so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not cleaned up but it's very well done ...it's beautiful...he liked it too ..the f*** at the end was actually him liking what he had just done... he appreciated getting through it as well as he did ... The tone complexity/depth of this song is incredible...he's big on chords.
@DJC DJC Elliott wasn't high for this show or any of the 2003 shows. If anything, he was drunk. The shakiness of the 2003 performances is most likely due to him being a heroin addict for nearly 2 years and then quitting. I can't imagine it's pleasant or easy to take your body off of that.
@@oldpaleridge right I have seen a few commented about him being high as a kite or the performance being great but medicore What? If you have listened to live elliott you would know when he's blasted and that he messed up a lot. This is a surprisingly clean performance by him. Maybe drunk. Either way the shakiness is probably because he wasn't high and he was actually there emotionally in that moment
Tuning is CGCFAD (all one step down and drop D).. killer version. Was hooked on this for ages. I thought this recording was from a different show though, maybe the Ford theatre one from 2003?
Some songs have that effect, you look back and can't believe that you never used to like the song and point out every part of the song that you really aye :P
Elliott Is toast in this version, most likely high as fuck. I'm not dissing him, he's my favorite musician of my time. He sounds amazing but out of it, a lot of his acoustic shows around this time he forgot a lot of his old songs, you can tell he was heavy into the writing and recording of all the basement tracks cuz he performed most of them flawless. Sad he got this low, but most amazing artist have their dark phase
listen to his voice shaking at the end, pleading: "happy songs?"
He's really been knocked out after this one. Bless you Elliott

Damn, this song is amazing.
So different to how I've learnt how to play this song on acoustic... beautiful!
yeah I used regular chords...this version is like tuned to an open and interesting tuning

I used to alwsys skip this song on basement. Then I listened to it, didn't like it. Now I'm super into it and I realize what an idiot I was, wow
Same happened with me, don't feel bad
ANYTHING that I could do!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone have a date and venue for this?
THANK YOU!
awesome
cute dog!
THANK YOU!!! :)
@briannaorbust I agree. This version is way better than the cd version.
Isn't this the best live performance of elliot Smith ?
If you can't help it, then just leave it alone
Leave me alone, yeah, just forget it
It's really easy
I'll just forget it too
:[
I reckon he's just on the verge of being unconscious.
What the dog do
sounds like he was on something this night - was he not sober around this time? either way, he did a really fucking great job of it
He is clearly saying "I belong in the zoo." Most of the lyrics on the internet are saying "I belong in your zoo." which does not make any sense :)
chords?
Drop D
yes, quite a few
