You underestimate yourself, I learned so much from you! The coco husk nutrient deficiency, the not needing humidiy, the not needing drainage holes, poles filled with soil, amazing little tools for plant care and and the true potential of what bookshelf filled with plants can possibly look like ❤
Whatever plant UA-camrs I’ve followed or looked at over the years, the ones that stick aren’t because they have big plants (on the contrary they can be quite boring and monotone). I started following you back in like 2021, and your channel felt like something I’d never encountered before. I think the main reasons were relatability personality and mental health wise, the fact that your plant care is very to the point and no bs, and genuineness. That said I definitely have learnt a lot here. Before you, I had hundreds of Pinterest posts all talking low-light-plant-crap. Ofc the people on this channel follow you because of plant interest, but I would maybe say even more they’re here for you.
Yesss so true and can we just note for any new plant collectors the when people tell you “BRIGHT INDIRECT LIGHT” it doesnt mean all bright indirect light is the same and there truly are levels to it and it does vary with certain plants! Honestly that phrase is so boldly thrown out to people without explanations of such for many new to the plant community! I always enjoy getting your advice and personal experiences because sooooo many will make a “thriving plants” video but never truly show the downsides of things! Someone will ask certain influencers later on about a plant in their collection and they tossed it and choose not to show that part! I loveeee and value honesty and transparency when it comes to things like that and I believe their pride and egos truly makes them miss out on making that valuable content aswell! I truly don’t expect anyone to be a botanist or perfect but we do expect them to just be truly honest and realistic and in most situations in ambient conditions forsure! Love the video!!!
Other people are like damn robots lol, and I've seen so many videos. It's the way they talk, move and everything has to be perfect. Trying to keep up with all the other robots 😂 you're just different and that's what I like.
Yes!!!! No one recaps online content like you 🙌🙌 Your story telling skills are seriously top notch. And your takes just hit all the “sounds good to me” buttons in such a satisfying way. Using products with oil to clean leaves, and correlation to attracting more dust component, and layers of oil that builds up over time, is some of the best advice I think plant people can give. The DIY advice that involves gross, odd, super labor-intensive steps is just frustrating to see because I have to think it pushes away people who might have loved this hobby. The advice that’s overly simple isn’t great either. It’s like, there a multiple variables. Experiment, observe, take information in from people who have had success. And know that you’re going to have setbacks. But those setbacks are teaching moments and kinda make the wins even better. Thanks for another great video 😊
Always happy to see a new video from you! Good morning to you, your fam, and pudge! I recently got a new frenchie, and thought of naming him "Pudge" because I've been watching your channel since the beginning of your youtube journey, and have always thought he was a cutie! You are still my favorite planty youtuber because I relate to you so much. Have a good day!
Omg be prepared 😂 if you haven't had a frenchie before, they are a LOT 😂 ours will be turning 4 in July and she's wild lmao It seems like almost ALL frenchies are just exact copies of each other 😂 goofy little things lol
The subreddit for sick plants is the WORST. I'll see a post with a plant with a clear case of pests and you'll see every possible suggestion. Higher humidity, root rot, DRY rot, different substrate, sing show tunes to it, a specific fert. Ugh lol. Humidity and drainage are both sacred cows. I keep my mouth shut lol. And don't get me started on "ambient." That word means nothing. My ambient is not your ambient. I run a humidifier to maintain 45% humidity for my comfort and for some plants it does help a little. My home humidity will drop below 20% without a humidifier. I adapt everything to 45%, or they have to leave lol. I want my anthuriums out for me to enjoy. Crispy edge here and there, be damned.
You’ve made such a great point! As a new plant mom, I recently made the decision to not take plant tips/advice from anyone who doesn’t have a similar home environment/temperature/light level as my home. It’s best for each person to do their own trial and error to see what works for them and their environment to avoid wasting money and time
New to your channel and really enjoying catching up on your videos. Fellow Vancouverite also. Learned so much from your no drainage video - thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences! 😊🪴
I’m soooo happy to see your beautiful face! And my “greenish thumb” hoodie if fantastic 🎉my house.. all winter.. is 30% humidity, and with my husband being a window guy and has a ton of service calls about humidity on windows, he’s not a fan of humidifiers… and my orchids are blooming and my monsteras are growing… but maybe it’s part of the Hoya not growing problem 😮😬🥴
The intro was everything! 😂 I don’t pay attention to Reddit comments much. I don’t really care, maybe they are just angry people in general. I absolutely love you and your friends 🤣 I feel that plant parenting is trial and error. What might work for me might not work for you. We all have different watering habits. With that said, we are going to kill plants now and then. WOW! Your view! I’m so jelly! Gorgeous…and Pudge is so cute! I use coffee grounds mixed with top soil for the yard or outdoor plants. I add humidity during winter because if not I’m shocking myself with everything, even my plants shock me. I find that when I water a group of plants, the humidity in that area does go up sooooo 🤷🏻♀️ but then I try to be more vigilant about pest checking regularly since my plants are closer together.
1:34:58 Loved this too and thank you! I agree with what you said about the ‘rules’. I don’t have rules anymore because plants are like us they change over time and seasons and we have to adapt.
i repotted nearly all my plants last weekend and my bestie was distressed. "but it's winter!" she exclaimed. "you can't repot in winter!!" and i sighed.
Watch me watch me! 😂 You and Alice are one of my favs, but I have a lot of them. I always try to find channels like mine that is new and don’t get help from the algorithm. 😏
Lol... Everyone has an opinion. Mine I guarantee is totally different from of yours. How and what I do is totally my experience and mine alone. I flat ass don't care what anybody thinks. They are my plants, my opinions, my house. I may consider your suggestions or not...lol Doesn't change who I am or who you are. You are amazing, and I do love to hear your experiences. Thank you so very much for sharing.
It’s only 48% humidity here. It’s been pretty dry here in Oregon but hadn’t rained in 17 days. Rain started on Friday so everything is damp and gloomy out today
This sounds dreamy. We’re hoping to settle down in Oregon or Washington in the next decade or so… my mom lives in NorCal where I grew up and I miss the high humidity!!!! Hug to you Lisa 😊
the worst advice i got was from my friend who actually got me into hardcore collecting. she has a lot more disposable income than i do and was very busy so she told me if it gets a pest to just throw it out and didn’t seem to know you could treat them. so me just starting out thought there was no hope for a plant w pests and would be sobbing and screaming that i had to throw away a plant when finally i was like there has to be a way of dealing w this! lo and behold there definitely is 😂
My kitten peed in a large Dracaena marginata a few weeks ago… 😂 I figure it’s gonna happen in nature right? I flushed extra well this most recent watering and she’s thriving… the plant. 🌱 💗
Have you heard of the tortum crossed with a Florida beauty variegated? It’s stunning looking. 👀. I saw one in another UA-cam video. Probably really high priced right now but it was amazing looking 👀
Okay that’s what I’m saying!!! Because if trauma and compounded genetic recombinations affects human genetics then I’m curious how this translates to plants
OMG, fresh fruit on top of your plants?? What?? Why would you invite fruit flies and fungus gnats into your environment? As someone who is in a perpetual battle against fungus gnats, this idea is so far out of my comfort soil it makes me cringe.

“Not everybody needs to hear me talk.” Is my new mantra 🕉️
Some much needed nuance in plantkeeping, thank you

I’ve toyed with trying no drainage. But then I think about buying pon, getting new vessels and it seems all too much. So I stick with what I know.
That’s fair Lisa! Something like experimenting with a new substrate can be daunting.

45:22 Nice Ninja skills 😘
I don’t get the coffee grounds but I’ve heard of egg shells adding calcium
I think coffee grounds is for nitrogen?
I thought they were called fruit flies because they come in on fruit, so wouldn’t you be adding more to the plant room?
It’s like replacing a problem with another problem 😆
I don’t get putting fruits on top of the soil??
Me too 🙈
That is, in fact, what she said.
How do you keep quiet? I can’t!
🤣
Finger your plants. I need that on a t shirt 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣yesss please
