    I doubt I will ever be able to justify the cost of a longarm machine. But if I ever win the lottery, I will buy the house that fits the largest machine made :)

    Oh Angela! That’s our Mandy and she Loved buying her machine from you! She was glowing when she told us about how you came out to get her started! I bought one from the shop you did a lecture and dinner show at but they weren’t You setting it up! Still, I love my new Amara and can’t wait to see you when you visit next time! Our whole quilt community is abuzz, hurry back to Abq! We love you and your family! Lol, did you hear about Mandy’s sign outside “your” bedroom? 🌺💗🌺

    Handi Quilter makes the Baby Lock long arm and sit down machines. They are almost identical and the accessories from Handi Quilter work. I bought the Baby Lock from a dealer on Kauai-the frame would fit and service is available locally. The Regalia is almost the same as the Amara. The only difference is the Amara has a magnetic collar for small scissors or tools on the head. It’s a great machine.

    Hi Angela, (we love you) Hi everybody (we also love all quilters)!
    it is a long time since my husband and I want to take a long arm...
    but here in Italy it is a challenge to find someone who can teach us how to use it fully!
    And we are also worried about technical maintenance...

    Well, since I’m not local to your shop I had to buy one from a local quilt shop. I bought the HQ Amara. I love it but the support system really isn’t there. But honestly for my area I’m not going to get that personal experience anyway. So my husband and I set it up and I rely heavily on HQ videos to get me by. I have no regrets though. I love it. One of my biggest issues though is to get a properly wound bobbin.

      Amy Sindlinger, it is tough when your not feeling supported. It’s a big investment. I can say that my experiences with calling customer service for HQ has been stellar. The support I get from HQ education department has really helped to get me started. I’ve also used the community forum on their website to find answers to some of my questions. So the HQ community is really great. I hope you are able to find resources that will help alleviate your frustration. Here’s a link to the page with access to the community.

      Hi Anitra, I am also interested in the Amara. I am wondering how much depth of space is needed for a 12’ frame. I have a 14’ long room, and it is 10 1/2’ wide. But I need to put something big (abt 4’ deep) across the room, so that will only leave 6 1/2’ of depth remaining. Is that enough room to comfortably use it? I read on the APQS site that one needs at least 8’ of depth, but their machine setup may be a different size. I have tried a bunch of machines (NOT APQS) but the Amara was by far my favorite, of all I tried. It seemed to offer the most control, was smooth to use (as opposed to the others I tried, which felt like a jackhammer!) and I liked the ergonomic adjustable handles because I have health issues and it didn’t hurt me to use it. So, from your experience, what would you say is the minimum depth necessary to enjoy comfortably using it? Thank you.

    you said you can tackle a quilt of any size on the 5 ft. frame? I have the space for a longer one but Im not sure I want to spend ? 10k for a machine. don't plan on doing quilting for an income. and honestly not sure how many big quilts I'd do anyway. If the occasional big quilt can be done on the smaller frame that sounds good. I just don't want to regret not getting the bigger one..... sigh,,,,, what to do? haha

    Thank you, Angela, this info. Very helpful for anyone considering such a major investment. There is one question I have, when considering the sit-down vs. stand-up versions, it seems as if there is another consideration besides the ease of sitting or standing. The time between basting the quilt first (sit-down) and loading the three layers on their individual rollers (stand-up), would they be about the same or would one of them actually take longer?

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  6 років тому +1

      I find that it's much quicker to load the layers on the frame as opposed to basting them. Hope that helps!

    Purchased an Avante about a year ago. The company came and set it up and that is as far as it went. I never had any training on it or how to load a quilt onto it. When I call with problems or issues I get an answering machine and when they call me back their answer is "there are lot of youtube videos to help you". I'm a little tired of watching videos to get my answers. I don't call that good customer service. Very frustrated. I have a VERY expensive machine and use it very little!!

      I just bought an Avante, got a super good deal w/ an upgraded frame. I found the customer service excellent. Because I ordered direct from HandiQuilter, I had to set it up myself. Fairly easy and I am an old fart! I had to call 2x very responsive, helpful & knowledge. Betty was awesome! I was a titch bit over zealous screwing the mast on to the bobbin winder, and broke it. HandiQuilter overnighted a new mast! They are great, love the machine. Tons of support through HandiQuilter, UA-cam, Facebook groups. Ask your dealer about demo machines

    • @amysindlinger2669
      @amysindlinger2669 6 років тому

      I bought mine from a quilt show in Lancaster PA and they reassured me that I would get hands on demonstration (I asked several times) on how to use it. This did not happen. I really think there is something wrong with the top tension knob. Top thread is always breaking no matter what weight thread I have on and have the tension adjusted correctly. What facebook groups are you part of?
