Julie was so exotic looking back in the late 60’s...her voice, her clothes, her looks...she was light years ahead of everybody from that era. She was truly in a class by herself.
So agree...been in love with her look since my teens in the 70's. Grace Slick must have nicked her vocal style too
I've said it before...and i''ll say it again....the more julie driscoll i hear, the more i love julie driscoll.
This album is outstanding!
MAGNIFICENT !!!!!
Been diggin' Julie since the album "Streetnoise". Very underrated singer.
What an utterly beautiful vocal by Julie of a first class song.
Brian Auger was the real musician . Julie came along and rode on B
rians shoulders and built her career. Brian was the real star.
Thanks for stopping by, Shay! I wish I could've found more pictures. I'm more a fan of her earlier stuff, I have to say. She's doing improvisational jazz with her husband Keith now. But if you were to listen to her stuff in chronological order, it's interesting to hear the progression she's made. It's what I would call a logical progression.
I REALLY LOVE IT !!!!
I own this wonderful CD and I recommend heartily that everybody purchase it. it's that GREAT! thank you so much for uploading this Gem! Does anybody know what Julie is doing these days?
Married and living in the US I believe. P I'd love to see and hear her sing if she still performs, she was light years ahead of any of her contemporaries. She had class.
The song Ron Dietz is trying to recall is "The Choice".
Btw, a remastered CD version of this beautiful album came out about four or five years ago. I found the liner notes particularly interesting.
Julie was a fantastic singer. She was a fine interpreter and stylist, but also was becoming a very good songwriter. Unfortunately, I find most of her 'free jazz' stuff unlistenable, no matter how much I try.
I respect her integrity for taking the non-commercial route that she did, and she obviously loves free jazz. But the rest of us lost a wonderful singer. I wish she had stuck to the earlier mixture of jazz, blues, soul, folk, rock and also developed the songwriting that showed such promise on '1969'. I think she could have continued that and still had integrity as a musician.
On a happier note, her and Keith Tippett collaborated with Nostalgia 77 on a fine album in 2009 - Nostalgia 77 Sessions feat. Julie and Keith Tippett - which is listenable for those of us that quite like *songs*. She was certainly still in fine voice on that. She'd be 68 this year, and she still seems to be free-jazzin' on. So much respect, Jools.
i wish i could find a Julie Driscoll song,,,,believe it's on 1969....."but you wont hear her name"......something likr that
can anyone put the full cd 1969 on youtube ??
Sorry about the extra numbers and symbols my iPhone is sometimes rambunctious lol
"you will call her name.....but she won't hear you"........something like thast
is the last song?
She is a rainbow.....
Was she a big star in Britain? a much better singer and looker than marianne unfaithful , she should have been huge, or was she?
Just rediscovering Julie and remembering what a great artist she is. One of this country's greatly under-valued performers.
