2:30 I couldnt be more agree with Monica. Rules are changing. Great movie. Difficult/Disturbing to watch. However the way the story is told, I found it very interesting.
Exactly her kids are open to talk about her mother being portrayed in that film sit them down and let them watch that DOESN'T MATTER WHAT AGE they are "ThE TiMeS aRe cHaNgInG" PrOgGrEsSiVe mEaNS bETtEr.....AAAAAArrrrrghtArds
2:17 Sorry but I couldn't help but notice the body language when she said "... and today we have children" , it seems as though they haven't seen eye to eye since their divorce
3:25 I'm sorry but, while there are many great, beautiful, and wonderful things in Brazil, the sentence he reads out (as Gasper says) is *very* applicable to Brazil, and other parts of South America. A strange land, whoever wrote that sentence, back in 2002, lives in to suggest this is an exclusive portrait of Europe. 🥴
Sorry Monica.. yes it was creative playing a story from End to Beginning, but truly as Gaspar said.. if this film is a "portrait of our world." Many would feel that it is not worth living in it at all.
@@bartoloco5194 My aim is not to criticize her. depicting such graphic violence, will usually shock the shockable and incite the nefarious. Perhaps, it may call some to action to seek better justice for the thousands of COVID 19 lockdown domestic abuse victims and beyond. As truly we live in a world that allows for something good to come out of something as terrible as rape and beatings, in form of better legislations.
@@byram101 Exactly, but hiding things and censoring art is not the way of tackling real problems. If we ban all rapes, beatings, domestic violence from films and art aiming at reducing those problems, we are barking at the wrong tree. We need to work on the roots of those problems, not on censoring art. Yes, this film is extremely shocking, and that is the aim, maybe it was not for you.
Do you live your life somewhere in a cocoon, shutting your eyes from reality that happens in a lot of places arround the world? Yes, there is a lot of good, fun and beautiful things in our world which are worth living for, but there is also evil that happens to people. This film includes both. It shows you the good and evil nature that is in man. Most people keep this nature, this dark side in them in check, others give in to it completely, like the rapist in the movie. And this stuff happens especially in wars where there is no rule of law. I read a study, If I remember correctly, 57% if not even 75% of men said that if there was no law, if they would not be punished for their actions, they would commit rape. Men without morals and empathy that only want to satisfy their twisted lust. Let's not forget history. In the old Roman empire, there was a time which we call Christmas today, but back then they celebrated Saturnalia. For one week the people could indulge in orgies and so on out in the open, wild revelries, but the darker side of that one week drunken sex marathon also included rape. Drunk men walked from house to house and raped women who didn't want to come out and party with them. To some it was so unberable that they left Rome for that period of time and came back when it was all over, others stayed and enjoyed one week of lawlesness where they were not punished for their actions. Not everyone commited rape off-course back then and would not do it today, but as in every society there are people, twisted psychopaths like the rapist in this movie, who do it. Let's also not forget that men get raped also. And let's not forget that women have fantasies of being raped because they like the fantasy of being dominated. But reality is something else than a fantasy in the head. And this movie shows how disturbing, cruel, violent it is in reality in the most severe cases.
@@bartoloco5194 To be clear fellow nobody.. This level of violence does not happen on a large enough scale to make it "A portrait of the world." And there are other ways to call to action the plight of abuse victims through education and awareness.. this kind of depiction could barely be tolerated even by the original screening audience.
That's like saying any murder scene in a movie is real but they hid it, it's called a horrifyingly well acted scene that feels real because the director and actress specifically wanted it to feel real

men don't move like that. also she was suffering too prettily
