Have you had tough jobs like this air conditioning pump install? Bruised and aching for a few days Matt ended up having Eric join him on the way back because the weather got a bit sporty and he didn't want to be on his own trying to get into the slip at the marina!
I'm a retired auto mechanic and did all my own boat repairs on my boats and a few friend's boats. I laughed when you said just a five-minute repair. I have spent an hour just trying to get the slider to unlock so I could get in.
Snap-on makes a great tool for loosening hoses from barb fittings, gives you a lot of leverage without damaging the hose. Great job under difficult conditions !
This is my 4th or so video I've watched of y'alls tonight after finding you. What I love about your work is the attention to detail like zip tying the hose clamp and wrapping them. It's the little things that matter when you're 500-1000 miles from home. No shortcuts taken!
I use an angle pick that I slide around the between the inside of the hose and the outside of the fitting. But on smaller hoses I also use a push off tool. It has 2 v shaped articulated pieces that start out together and the push apart with the handles. Kind of a lever to push apart the hose from the fixture. Since it shoves against the open end of the hose it causes the hose to lose some of it's tightness against the fixture. Look up hose removal tools on the web. Good luck!
your videos remind me why I stopped putting chiller plants in yachts. They can stick stuff in the worst places. There were times I thought the engineers had challenged each other to see who could pack the most crap in a hole.
It’s not necessarily about the make it’s about the material condition and the reoccurring maintenance that was kept up on obviously, some trawlers cost more than others the first one that pops into my head is a Nord Haven, but fathom makes a pretty good trawler also
Amen boss, train up someone to get after the level of work you do. by what I gather from you, your going to expand a great deal, got some one worthy as superintendent. job foremen. I had a supper I was to call him no matter what in the wee hours of night, give him the run down, did it for a long while. My job was to keep him in the know, and to follow his directions to the letter. it wasn't perfect, but it did help in preventing things from falling between the cracks. Chain of command......be wear of building bigger barns, it's Biblical.....
Yeah we’ve tried a few times to hire sups but it gets too many people trying to direct and gets frustrating for the guys. We use to have a crew of like 13 some years back.
Retired mechanical engineer ( Hyperbaric recompression chamber) Buy a couple of cheap walki talkies . No more missed signals/ yelling, and you will be a hero 😎
I know you get it all the time. But here it goes. Retired owner operator ,heavy equipment mechanic, 59 years old, and my body aches every day. Let the young blood in that compartment and you hand tools and advice to them. They can do it. So, as far as those hose and hose bibs go, I used to use the longest Cotter pin puller that I had along with lubrication or penetrating oil sprayed on the puller as I slid it up between the barb and the hose. It may be a little bit dangerous in your situation, but can you use a small little butane torch to warm up the hose for removal and install?

We used to use snap on until they didn't want to cover one of their tools!

Good stuff, I'll check that out! 👍
Sweeeeet boat , all the way
It’s a beauty …. Maybe Driving it again soon.
I am with you on those tight jobs, the worst. it's like you got into a fight (and lost). Keep the great videos coming.
Yeah those tight spots are not good when your getting old! 🥴
your videos remind me why I stopped putting chiller plants in yachts. They can stick stuff in the worst places. There were times I thought the engineers had challenged each other to see who could pack the most crap in a hole.
So true they don’t think about repairing when they build these yachts.
I usualy cut hoses and replace them if they resist to much. Saves time and in the end money for the customer
Yes you never know when the hoses will be that tough! 👍
wow that was a bear to get in there!! What a job! Nice job though! At least you got it back in and working for them! Keep rolling and stay safe! 👍👍
I would have rather he skipped that job! It’s not worth how he feels after! But, he got it done 🙃
@@WillFixThat yeah old bones and all that stuff.. can identify! hope he gets to feeling better asap..
@@ThoughtfulWander some jobs just aren't worth it! BUT Matt just loves to fix!
@@WillFixThat 👍👍
Rambo, Release, gamfisher, winter. bunch of guys make those center console walk around I personally love em sport fish style in a small package

Hello from Siesta Key Florida
Hi Bill thanks for stopping by today (waving)
Been following you for a while now. You are Legit. I like it.
Thanks Brian we can't really pretend .... we can't make this sheet up! Thanks so much for watching share us with your friends and family!🤩
Hate working with the hoses. I think that’s the hardest part of any pump job. Especially on 30 year old boats
Soooo true Rod thanks for sharing!
Love the turbo diesel center console even though I prefer outboard motors lol
Outboard a little easier to work on instead of climbing in the hole.
@@WillFixThat hahahaha very much so
@@honeybunbandit1 those small spots are tough when your getting older.
@@WillFixThat especially on inboard mercury with the water pump all the way at the bottom of the engine
@@honeybunbandit1 exactly 😭
Looking at used trawlers under 42 feet. What is the best one to buy from a maintenance and quality perspective?
It’s not necessarily about the make it’s about the material condition and the reoccurring maintenance that was kept up on obviously, some trawlers cost more than others the first one that pops into my head is a Nord Haven, but fathom makes a pretty good trawler also
put vice grip on fitting to pry against to pry hoses off
Thanks for sharing Matt!

i have never seen hose clamp tails zip tied, good fix, but how about proper clamp size
Thanks for watching Martin!
How did that center console handle?
Well Matt was not impressed since the hydraulic steering was broke when he took the boat! That’s one of the reasons he had Eric get on board!
I feel hot and old, but I can't explain.
Same here 🤣

You’re definitely right about the aches and pains on the body! Agree about the young blood depending on the job!
Winter.
Yes… Winter.
Heat the hoses with a heat gun prior to slipping on the nipples.
Yes these hoses had wire in them so still a struggle boat to get on. Have to be careful not to ruin the rubber too.
Winter
Yes.
I’ve had luck heating hoses with a heat gun and twist it with a large pair of channel locks.
Yes that can work.
Use a heat gun on the hoses. For removing and installing.
Yes agree makes it easier.
You know it's a job well done when you start bleeding. 😊
So that means everyday we have great jobs completed!
