Drove a white with black leather 97 SHO for awhile, was a smooth car. Ended up trading it to a guy for a fully loaded mark VIII. I actually think the solid red taillights look better on the later SHOs.
Very nice I love my 98 Taurus se ohv, I bought her brand new and she has 154,000 original miles on it never had any issues with the drive train, I was going to purchase a sho , but read they had to many engine issue.
The ohv has a cast iron block, be sure to keep the water pump new and refresh the antifreeze, every other year, if rust starts in the cooling system it will run hot and warp the heads. That's the only way you can hurt these bulletproof engines.
My mother had a used 97 model in black. When my mother got sick and couldn’t drive anymore the car sat in the back yard and rusted away for 5 years until she scraped it.
It looks like your A/C works. Did it ever have to get replaced? I have a ‘99 SE but the A/C stopped working around a few years ago. I plan on finally getting it fixed this summer. I’m guessing the compressor is the issue?
@@sniperboy1754 *UPDATE* I got it fixed and it works good, super cold air now blows when it’s on I found out it was the Blend Door not working properly, and the AC needed a recharge as well
I grew up loving these cars. Wish I still had my dad's silver 96 LX wasn't the SHO but still a sharp car held up well . I now have a 2010 Fusion Sport which is comparable to this style SHO very much so.

@JDns-we4fw Uh.......100mph in 2nd gear? I call BS on that statement! I would LOVE to know what the RPM on that Lincoln motor was revving to! And I don't believe for a second that Contour can run up to 140+ mph like the long legs of the GEN 3. Do you even know the OEM tire rating on a GEN 3? I doubt the same for that Contour.
I'm driving one right now, and damn does pumping premium into something so slow hurt. It's cool to me at least, but that engine bay is messed up. really crammed in there
Top end there's no chance for the Z34 specially if the saxophone is removed it might be able to pull at least 2-3 cars this engine has racing DNA in all angles

Its has a runner control module which is why exhaust changes... trust me I've studied this car lol
@J. Dns I did know it about runner controls until mines were stuck
FORD should have made these Rwd / Awd drive with a Mustang 5spd manual GT Transmission.
My father had this 99 sho. First car I ever drove. It did donuts with ease. By far a fun car to drive as a 15 yr old beginner
Impossible to do donuts in a FWD car.

“It’s still a Taurus” typical non car guy spewage. We know it is. But there’s much more to it than that.
my uncle had bought one brand new...after getting spanked by a 95impala ss, he returned the car that monday morning for a Lightning😂
How'd he get spanked lol those cars run identical quarters
Hahaha!
I remember the GTP would spank V8 SHOs too
I spanked a 500hp 96 Impala SS on my 600cc Honda powered Go kart piece of cake!
I had a 98 v8 all black that I bought off craigslist for 2400 with 120k .. I so miss this car . It was totaled when I got rear ended😔
I got a 97 for 5k
missed out on one of these with 50k miles for $3200 in excellent shape a few years ago...regretted it ever since
I had a 1996 LX variant with the Duratec V6 motor. I definitely would buy a SHO variant if I can find a good one

what kind of exhaust is that?
You forgot to hit the super go button bro!
Very well built American vehicle much better than Korean and most gm crap from that time period , even the base taurus are still around as dailys
Well, gm of this era wasn’t that bad.... every car has its problems tho
My 97 has the exact same spot on the trunk

I had one and it didn't come close to the first gen SHO, 89-93.
You guys sell this ???❤
Watch these engines for cam issues. Very faulty and expensive fix and every sho had the issue. Should have stuck with 3.2 v6 from earlier years.
By now Its probably safe to say they all have had cams welded .....Most all had the cam failure around 30k
its a easy fix , sho owners weld the cam sprocket to the cam.
You know, everyone points out the CAMS the CAMS!! There are so many other high end V8s that have major issues in many cars, especially European !!

With the front split bench seating and column shifter it’s pretty roomy. But no SHO’s had that unfortunately.
