Like one comment noted, the proportions are not “true to life” (the low hairline, the miniaturized face, etc). but it’s an appealing representation of the character that is recognizable. It’s a perfectly adequate drawing for a skilled-intermediate sketch if not a professional artist.
I'm so glad to hear that! I'm always happy to help people learn and improve their skills. I'm sure you'll continue to improve with practice. Keep up the good work!
Jesus. I just want to draw a simple sketch of my twelve yr old for her 13th birthday, but I just cannot get it looking right at all. Loomis method, whichever method,it’s a constant battle with the eyes, nose, and mouth. I have the ears done, and the basic shapes, but I’m going insane!
Yes you are very talented and have technical expertise, and the initial lines are helpful. However, I would have benefited much more from a verbal explanation of how you are looking at the foto and deciding where to put the features, what you are considering about the size and placement and details and how that relates to the Loomis method.
It's copying totally different thing and the very best technique. How do you know what and where to place without measuring and knowing any proportions?
I disagree entirely. All my life i have tried to do portraits. I discovered this method today and everything is. In the right place which leads to drawing them properly where they belong such a huge achievement..
It depends on the complexity of the drawing. A simple drawing can take me as little as 30 minutes, while a more complex drawing can take several hours.

Yes, that's the Loomis way. There are some differences between Loomis's method and Broco's teachings, but both are good ways to learn to draw. The Loomis Method focuses on building form through the use of basic shapes, such as squares, rectangles, and triangles. This method is useful for learning how to draw the correct proportions of shapes. Brocco's teachings focus on constructing form through the use of basic lines. This method is useful for learning how to draw dynamic and realistic shapes. In the end, the best way to learn to draw is to experiment and practice. Try both methods and see which one you prefer.

Well first off the size of both circle guides doesn't match at all so it will come off as not accurate at all. Honestly speaking if you want to copy an image as accurately as possible then Grid Lines Guides is that way to go.
@@starcrysis23 I majored in Fine Arts bruh. Using Grid Lines is an effective method if you want an accurate copy of an image. That's BS when you say it won't teach you anything when you still need to use yours skill in drawing anatomy. The Guides lines are just that. GUIDE LINES.
I apologize if my teaching method is not clear. I do my best to explain concepts clearly and provide concrete examples. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.
no not perfect, without loomes method and using your brain power for estimating lines and shape, you can draw 97% accurately since I have experienced it.
I agree with you that the loom method is not perfect, and it is not the only method that can be used for drawing. However, it is a useful method that can help artists improve their skills and the accuracy of their work. As for being able to draw with 97% accuracy after trying the loom method, I am very impressed with this achievement. You are clearly a very talented artist, and you have the ability to accurately appreciate lines and shapes.
@@onepenciltutorial njvm I didnt mean that but whatever I actually didnt appreciate loomis method because I never drew anything using any method. just my brain. The estimation of the brain is wonderful you know. just try to draw more and more by yourself, you will find yourself as an artist.

This style of drawing doesn't work for me or most! And looking at the finished product it doesn't work at all! It's way out of proportion and although likeness is their its not! Better of just freehanding the whole thing without these silly circle techniques!
As an artist who has made probably 10,000 drawings, and with many credentials that I shall not enumerate, I disagree with this manner of how to go about drawing a portrait. I find it to be off-point, and actually teaching what I would deem bad habits. There are better ways to learn.
I agree. I have done many portraits but always rely on the tried and true methods of the Masters, such as Leonardo DaVinci, Michelangelo and Rembrandt.
