Kids React to Art: When Forms Come Alive - "That looks like it's made of sofa!"

See what a group of kids made of the artworks of When Forms Come Alive, when we gave them free rein in the Hayward Gallery exhibition.
We’re used to seeing people move around our galleries slowly and pensively as they take in artists’ work. But everyone has their own individual interaction with the art they see. So how would kids interact with the sculptures when allowed to be kids? We chose to find out, by capturing their reactions to the undulating, cascading, fluid sculptures of When Forms Come Alive in this video.
Featuring works by 21 international artists When Forms Come Alive spans 60 years of contemporary sculpture. Each work within the exhibition highlights the ways in which artists draw on and capture the experiences of movement and flux.
Among the works the children are reacting to are Shylight (2006-2014) by DRIFT, Bouquet Final (2012) by Michel Blazy, Pumping (2019) by Eva Fàbregas, Epiphanie on Stühlen (Epiphany on Chairs) (2011) by Franz West, Dream - Spontaneous - Combustion (2008) by Olaf Brzeski, Globules (2023) and Third Instar (2023) both by Matthew Ronay and A Subsequent Offering (2017) by EJ Hill.
