The reason you were flashed was probably because you had your full lights on and in Sweden we dim our lights when passing other traffic so you don’t blind the oncoming vehicles. You can see that the truck when from full brights to dimmer lights as he started coming closer.
I was definitely on the dimmer lights and I just ended up flashing my full lights when he flashed his as he got closer. We think he was probably warning us about the wide load truck behind him.
It was because of the hill, he thought you had the full lights on. So you did totally right flashing back! Haha

lovely video. The reindeer you saw with the white reindeer, if you were lucky enough to see it, out of 100 reindeer, 4-5 white ones are rare to see in the wild. I have lived in Lapland/Norrland for 20 years and have seen white reindeer no more than 8-9 times, the kind that live in the wild, the forest

Sweden's land area is as big as 2 x UK + Ireland! Sweden consists of 53% Forest, 100,000 lakes, 270,000 islands! Love your videos and love the 4 seasons in Scandinavia.

@@MariaOliviaTravel For the American perspective, Sweden is a bit larger than California by area.
But for pop and economy Sweden is pretty much the same as Michigan.
Thank you for the kind words of my home town Sollefteå. You passed by my old home on the way to Hallstaberget. You really got to see the whole variety of the nature in Sweden.
Yes those berries were european blueberries, if they are smaller they might have been bilberries but they are so closely related it´s hard to differentiate between them. To bad you didn´t taste them, they are a treat fresh from the bush! Yes the length of the land is sort of interesting, can be late summer in Malmö and autumn or early winter at the same time up in the north... Hope you have some pleasant memories to look back to from your time here in sweden!!! 🥰
Thank you for the information 😁 I did not know what bilberries were until your comment. We are really disappointed, we didn’t try them. We should have picked them and asked a local but we were too shy to go up to someone and ask if they were blueberries 😂 I love how much the weather can differ, such a cool experience. We definitely made some lovely memories in Sweden and we hope to be back soon 😊

Winter in Sweden is spectacular as long as youre not too far south.
You tend to get alot of sludge in the South due to sub zero nights but a couple of degrees above freeing in the days.
In absolute mid winter, late December to mid January you generally get proper sbow wherever you are and at those times the cities are also very nice.
That said, nothing beats the north in the winter.
Just make sure to pack warm.

and the hotel you stayed at was certainly a ski hotel so it was completely out of season, therefore so cheap I would believe

The little watchtower you saw is used for hunting, jakttorn is what they're called i think. (Hunting tower)

@@MariaOliviaTravelhunting is often done in a team, often with a few dogs. The towers are used as elevated place to shoot from once the dogs has driven a moose or deer infront of you. It’s common in Sweden to hunt and most people have someone they know that does it and they can get meat from sometimes. Moose is a very nice texture.
We also NEED to hunt, to keep the moose and deer populations resonable, sine a lot of accidents do happen with cars and wild animals. Hitting a moose weighing 600 kg, is like hitting a large horse. People die from those accidents.
If they flashed you, you either blinded the truck driver by having the high beams ON or the headlights on the car have been set wrong so they light too high, which means they blind like high beams would

I am from Denmark and here when someone “blinks” at you on the road it’s most likely because you have your high beam on. Suspect it’s the same in Sweden. Have a lovely trip. Look forward to your future adventures 😊

We were just so confused at the time because our high beams were not on, but 4 mins later I think we found out why he was “blinking” at us 😅 he was probably warning us to pull over for the big transport trucks.

The nature in north Sweden, similar to the one in northern Norway, is absolutely beautiful. So awesome seeing so many reindeer at the sides of the road.
I haven't driven an electric car before, but lately was a passenger in one. It feels nice.
The development of longer lasting batteries is progressing fast.
The hotel you stayed in Skellefteå looks like a skiing resort, which would be cheaper in summer.
It definitely looks as if you found blueberries, but I wouldn't have made the risk too.
Their stay was in Sollefteå, not Skellefteå. (I also heard it wrong, but it's shown in text.)
Wow I can imagine how much more convenient it’ll be if you can go 800km in one charge. It’ll make road trips so much easier, especially in countries that haven’t developed a very big network of fast chargers. As far as the ski resort, we thought the same thing about the prices so we looked up the prices for December and they were the same, which was shocking. But maybe it’s because it’s so far in advance.
Those were blueberries and lingonberries. I don't think you will find any poisonous berries on the forest floor here in Sweden. But beware people's gardens. @@MariaOliviaTravel
@@tovep9573 Lily of the valley has poisonous berries, and there are a few others, but they are rare, and none of them can be confused with blueberries or lingonberries, so you should pick and enjoy them!
In Sweden, we often warn each other by flashing our headlights. Often for moose but also for police checks.
If you do not switch off the high beams when you meet another image, there is a risk that you will dazzle the
oncoming car so that the driver cannot see if there is a wild animal in the way.
People should stop flashing and varning people from police controls, it's stupid and the risk can be that you help someone who is drunk or have taken drugs.
I never notify others when I see the police.
Every day there is around 14400 drivers that drive with alcohol levels over the legal limit here in sweden so stop varning people for police controls.

Good thing you didn't touch the red mushroom, as it is poisonous to ingest. As a general rule, don't touch any mushroom unless you know for sure what it is. Same with berries really, but here in Sweden if you find a patch of blue and red berries it is for sure blue/lingonberries (they are related). Almost all of our berries are edible.

Sweden in the winter differ a lot depending on where you are in the country.
Southern Sweden is much less cold and dark but more rain and wind. Northern 🎉Sweden are much colder and more true to what most consider winter with snow and long dark days but the white snow make it ok ss long you have some light around 😄 otherwise it get pitch dark outside.
In southern and central Sweden the winters are short and quite cold, and summer temperatures are similar to those in southern England, but with a lot more hours of sunshine and daylight.
Summers are a real delight.
In the northeast meanwhile, the winters are cold and can be severe, the more so as you travel further north, while the summers can be surprisingly warm and pleasant.
In the far north, the winters are often severe, with snow lying year-round on elevated areas, and the summers are short and changeable. Because Sweden lies at a high latitude much of the country has very long hours of daylight in summer and very long nights in winter.
However in most big cities you dont really fell the cold and dark winter as much unless some harsh occasionally winter storms.

Hello girls! It´s nice to "meet" you. I think you are doing great. About the berries, yes, it´s blueberries and lingonberries. You find them all over Sweden. It´s not a watch tower, it´s used by hunters. I hope you will come back and give Sweden's west coast a go too. It´s worth it but only in the summer.

Thank you Christiana 🥰 That’s so cool, and I definitely agree, mushrooms are fascinating. So many different types too! I think there is a type of mushroom in the US that is mostly underground and I believe holds the record for being one of the heaviest plants in the world. It’s considered one plant because all the roots are connected. It’s very interesting, I can’t remember the name though :/
@MariaOliviaTravel I'd love to see that, there is a place in Wales uk called Bodnant Gardens, its extremely pretty very big to walk around and the wild mushrooms and toadstools that grow there are like something from a fairy tale

If someone flashes their lights at you on the road - they are signaling to you that you have full lights on, blinding them.
Yes, I think it’s probably like that everywhere 😊 it confused us because I definitely didn’t have the highlights on. But I guess we got our answer a few mins later, he was warning us about the wide/heavy trucks. Thank you for watching 🙏😁
bluberries are almost like weed in the north of sweden, it grows EVERYWHERE
I though driving electric would be much cheaper, but its more or less the same cost. A car avaraging 0.6L/10km would come out at a cost of 1200kr, while you charged for 1192kr. Only an 8kr difference.
It is when you charge at home that it is cheap.

I just found you now. It is kind of interesting to see how people from the south experience our northern lands, but knowing blueberries feels really bizarre.
Yes, you were right, it's blueberries and lingonberries, so you could have just eaten as much as you wanted, lingonberries aren't very good to eat straight from the bush, but the blueberries are fantastic.

Lappland is arctic and wild, but Dalarna is the prettiest region and not such a long drive.
That watch tower is a tower moose hunters use.
Yes, The little tower is an Elk hunter tower, we call them Elk in Sweden . During the yearly elk hunt, a big event to control the elk population, the hunters sit there very still and have dogs drivning the elks towards the hunter tower.
also a matter of time, we often do the 100mil(1000km) to vacation cabin in north, but we do it in one day, and one tank....ofc thx to joi bidee it cost more, but it is still in one day

Yeah, Ionity without subscription of deal with purchase is the most expensive one. Charge at Tesla is way better. At Tesla the only challange is not to block two charging bays as the charging port on VW is on the other side of the car than the Teslas.
Yep, those were blueberries and lingon. I also recommend picking kantareller, the yellow trumpet mushroom. Fry it in butter, ad abit salt and put on Swedish hårtbröd. (Thin dry bread)

There are no reason to go slower in a modern electric car than any other car! They charge so fast that you only loose time and there are no problems with the battery going at normal speeds. The energy you save you would have got back in a few minutes on a fast charger.

Maybe they dont count national parks etc but just wild forests.
If it IS 70%~ with the parks it might land at 50-55% without them, cuz there are quite a few and some are rather large.
Or maybe Im completely missinformed.

It actually wasn’t as tiring as I thought, the car had really advanced cruise control haha. Olivia actually has a license and she did drive a little bit. I actually love to drive rather than be a passenger so it’s actually me pushing to drive more 😅

We tend to mention Euro since it’s more of a universal currency so most of our audience can understand. 😊Plus it helps us keep track of how much we are spending since it’s harder to keep track on Krona.
@@MariaOliviaTravel Understandable, and to be both totally clear and correct we use SEK (Swedish/Svensk krona), to separate us from other countries with their own krona (like NOK in Norway and DKK in Denmark). We would say, this cost 100 (svenska) kronor (swedish crowns), which right now is about 8 Euros.

On the drive back we actually run into another truck like that and it was carrying the propeller 🤯 it was even bigger than the “pipe”
